As Moby and many physicists before him have said, “we are all made of stars”, which isn’t strictly true, since we are only made from a small selection elements, chemicals and minerals borne of the vastness of space, but it’s a nice thought all the same. All We Are Is Energy is far more apt, and luckily enough that is the title for Springleap‘s latest design winner Sebasebi who harks from Argentina. There’s a wonderful painterly style to this one, reminds me a little of some of Imaginary Foundation‘s work.

Energy and matter are the same thing, they simply vibrate at different frequencies, matter which is what we are for the main part runs at a far slower rate. I will let you make of that what you will :p Loving this tee, probably the best to come out of the Springleap stable so far.

Supersonic Tees at Rockett

One small step for this reviewer, one giant leap for tee-kind, Rockett Clothing are exploring the deep space of fashion with a powerful crew of designers including quite a few members of the venerable Black Axe amongst their team. Before we blast off and go where no t-shirt reviews blog has gone before here’s a little background information on this amazing urban wear label.

Rockett Clothing was formed in Redlands, California 2003 by Rob with a little help from his wife, four dogs and friend Travis amongst the original crew, Rob found himself under great demand by bands like Eighteen Visions, Atreyu, Bleeding Through and others to design and print tees that rocked and he’s never looked back, no matter how beautiful the view. Rob used to be in a hardcore band of his own so he’s had plenty of experience of crappy merchandise that’s guaranteed to wipe the smile off any fan. Money was tight in those early days and Rockett lived cheek by jowl on a pitiful budget but with a groundswell of support from the Californian music scene it wasn’t long before the sales started pouring in. Suppliers can still blight the books, everything in the t-shirt business is paid for in advance so however wealthy they may be on paper there are always bills to pay. Over production and over partying can also force the label to bite the bullet from time to time, but no fear, Rocket Clothing are definitely here to stay no matter what.

They scour artists on the net including sites like Emptees.com to keep their collections fresh, and even manufacture their own tees these days. Expect to witness lots of drug-influenced zombies, parallel dimensions, long dark nights, B-movies, melting, dripping text and graphics, bizarre, blisteringly funny yet strangely intoxicating, their style has become (in)famous in the underground fashion scene. With artists like Derek Deal, Chris Sandlin, Colin Strandberg, Josh Stomberg, Filipe Olivera, Skull w/ Hair, and Electrik Suicide on their books you’re assured of a treat for the eyes, their dream being to ultimately bring back the tank top, who knows, it might happen, well okay it is happening lol. Lost in the world of Fast Joe

Fast Joe (a.k.a Carlos Arenas) of FastJoe.com requested a review recently, and to be honest I am still utterly confused, really, I think he should do the review because I’m damned if I know what to say. The thing is when you arrive at his site, the design, the strange background story (which seems utterly incomplete to me) and the t-shirts themselves (which almost feel like an afterthought), leave me feeling disorientated and perhaps even a little more out of touch and older than my years. Am I going senile here?

If I was Carlos I’d begin by creating an animated series, ‘something for the kids’, a tangible product to hang his ideas on. I don’t like ‘anonymous art’, and I haven’t an avenue to enter his strange, retro, and pseudo-sci-fi influenced universe as promised from the word go. I saw the video, which is strange (to say the least). I loved it, but it didn’t tell me much, and afterwards it felt like a rather brief and frustrating teaser, I was hoping for some kind of explanation to what the hell is going on over there. read more
