Black Dynamite T-Shirt
Have you seen the 2009 cult blaxploitation movie ‘Black Dynamite‘? I came across this little gem a few months back, watched it in a rather inebriated state late at night, and laughed my socks off. I love all the old seventies blaxploitation blockbusters, especially the ‘Shaft’ movies, and so it was a real treat for me to see the genre revived. The actors aren’t the most famous in the world and the budget was on the low side, but the team behind the film did a cracking job, and it looks like a lot of people out there have the same opinion including Lil Jon, Talib Kweli, and Kid Cudi. If you want to know more check out the hilarious www.fightsmackintheorphanage.org or watch the trailer.
To celebrate the success of the movie and the forthcoming release of a cartoon version at Adult Swim, Ars Nova, the people responsible for this instant classic have released an official tee for all those who need a little more Black Dynamite in their life!
Black Dynamite Tee
Designed by the infamous street artist David Choe, this Limited Edition tee features Black Dynamite “with his roscoe aimed right at your dome….” Available for $30 in silver and black in all sizes (black M/3XL currently sold out). Get yours here.

Plus of course their party page – if you want to take the plunge and meet the real deal.
However it’s their iconic t-shirts that truly do the talking for them, telling it like it is, and reinforcing the message in big bright bold colours, stonking typography, and slick street styles that just won’t quit. Sutsu Sir
Sutsu are perfectionists, it comes with the trade, every aspect of their site and label is so well done I’m a little at a loss what to say here. I suppose it’s all down to perfect balance, if you live on the edge, if you love the extreme ends of sport, if you don’t want to break your neck you have to know what your doing. There are no second chances when you’re somersaulting through the air, standing on the crest of a wave or traversing a monster ramp on four tiny wheels just for the hell of it. It makes sense that you’d need the best of the best, the best tools, the best equipment, the best clothes, the best style.
Expect the highest quality graphic designed prints on the best of the best organic t-shirts, geared and marketed to an √ºber cool audience who know what they want and where to get it. Sutsu really have got it going on, and they know it, but yet there’s still that Zen-like quality to everything on the site, there isn’t a hint of arrogance about this label, they are great at what they do because they know how to do it, end of. I’ve always been jealous of people like the guys at Sutsu, I used to think it was merely a result of a charmed life, but as the years have passed me by I’ve realised it’s all down to self discipline – you can kick up a ruck, you can battle with the forces of nature, tip the balance of consequence, but if you don’t have complete and utter confidence in yourself and what you do, you will trip up, and when the odds are mounted this high, that’s literally a life or death situation. A time and place that sorts the men from the boys, a moment that can make or break you.
The moment you arrive at Sutsu.com you know you’re in the right place, as in extreme sports, on-line fashion retailing is not a place to make mistakes. A common misconception in the industry is that a few well designed products will pave the way to success, it’s true that a strong line in designer items will raise your game, but there’s so much more to it than that and Sutsu are obviously well aware of that fact. Without even scouring through the site I’m immediately made aware of their market, their goals, their philosophy, as well as bowled over by the clean cut design. There’s even a Facebook applet slap bang on the homepage if you want to start chatting with the team and other customers, now that’s interactivity. Ecology, style, extreme sports and fashion all meld into one at Sutsu… read more

King Apparel – Tees That Reign Supreme
King-Apparel.com based in Stratford East London offer some of the slickest, soundest, graphic savvy tees in the streetwear market. If you’re looking for a label that delivers without question, has it’s finger on the pulse and can even tout its own branding without leaving a bad taste in your mouth then it has to be King Apparel.
It’s great to be reviewing another East London label, I really think something massive is happening down that way, both for arts and fashion, for a start Black Rat Press and a whole gang of great graffiti artists work down that way, and then there’s Cockney Empire I featured a while back. Of course just like many successful London labels, KA have a massive appeal around the world, partly down to their amazing marketing know how. Take a look at this poster for their next campaign, it takes its inspiration from the classic cult movie The Warriors (which you have to see if you love gritty 70s B-Movies – it’s required watching mate).
