The Simple Things
I’ve tried looking up the exact quote but essentially it’s The Simple Things that count, at least when it comes to fun, and you guessed it, simple graphic tees. Based in rather idyllic Cornwall and run by Adrian Blake, a guy on a mission to escape the dreaded 9 to 5 and spread his fun and quirky view of the world via his online store. There’s a nice selection of mid-priced tees and buttons on offer, leaning on the typographic but they work. What’s more no sign of generic fonts, nice hand rendered text and a good choice of colours.
Each of the following are on sale from £17.99 to £22.99, most available in sizes S-L. However ladies will miss out on my fave as there are only medium sized Add Colour tees left :/
Add Colour Tee
As mentioned only men’s mediums left for this one, obviously a popular shirt, very funky.
Love The Simple Things Tee
Very nice hippy styling, reminds me of something off a psychedelic record cover. Groovy. On sale now at £17.99 for girls and guys in sizes S-L.
And Found Tee
A slightly cryptic title for a nice little piece of semi-abstraction spelling out the word ‘lost’ in a rather pleasing safari-style cut-out font. Sorry girls this one’s just for the guys in sizes S-L for £17.99 each.

Eau de Mars
Hmm… the smell of Mars? If it did have an atmosphere I think it have a whiff of sulphur, but who cares this brand spanking new indie Brit label is definitely not a stinker! In fact Eau de Mars are already firing all guns in order to quickly find their place in the market, with a very slick site and store, a couple of discount codes, and top street fashion t-shirt designs by top artists, many of whom have worked in the past for cool labels like Vicious History and Honour Over Glory.
A few tees are already available already, namely their selection of artist designed (highly) limited edition shirts (200 each), there’s also a premium and classic section, however you’ll have to wait for those. Here are the discounts:
For a massive 20% discount on any limited edition tees use the code SECRETSALE at the checkout.
Take the time to click ‘like’ at their Facebook page and get an even bigger 25% discount off all their tees using the code WELOVEUBACK at the checkout.
Here are the latest tees, each comes with a free poster illustration and other freebies when you pre-order. Ships 01/03/2011 and be warned there will be no reruns for these:
Ritual 2.0 Tee
Available in both black (looks more like dark grey to me) and white editions, pre-order for £24.95 each in unisex sizes XS-L. Another classic heavy metal/tattoo style design from Craig Robson.
Undercover in Creature Town Tee
This one’s by the illustrator Helmi Himawan. Again black and white editions on offer. If u love monsters you should be in mutant hog heaven by now… pre-order for £24.95 each in unisex sizes XS-L.

Japanese Laundry
Japanese Laundry are a brand new label from the UK with a passion for all things (you guessed it) Japanese. It all started with a love for Japanese Selvedge Raw denim jeans, for 12 years they’ve been working on producing their own, and now they’re planning to release a whole host of Japanese influenced items including tees, polos, sweats and shirts. JL will be opening their doors or rather booting up the online store at the end of this month, they aim to offer up their first batch of t-shirts at £29.99 each in sizes S,M,L,XL which will be available for pre-order and available from April online and in stores across the UK.
I’ve persuaded Ross at Japanese Laundry to upload photos at Flickr, so this will probably be your first sneak peek at their shirts including their Harajuku Showgirls Tee. Unless of course you’ve read the technical review of their merchandise at DapperDude.co.uk. In the meantime feast your eyes on these which will all be available in a variety of difference colours…

Youneek Clothing
To keep it brief Youneek is for the urban geek, if you’ve got style and brains there are few places to find fashion, but this label has three sweet tees to satisfy your mental needs and style requirements. Not that you need to be a genius to sport their clobber (although it would probably help), this cool London based label follows the adventures of William Whiz Kid, cast out of everyday society due to his highly superior intelligence and vision. If you’re a geek (or ‘neek’) and have a love of cartoon characters, urban art and intellectual prowess then try out their togs. Two of the tees are on sale at £16 each and one is reduced right now to just £12, and there’s a hoodie for £23 too, all printed on Continental. You can also grab yourself a winter bundle which includes any tee and a hoodie for £35, saving you a cool 4 quid. There are a few nice little details too including a screen printed tag.
Youneek Classic Tee
Both are available in sizes S-XL in red and grey, their signature tee offers a smart slick toon/street art style logo featuring the Whiz Kid himself in both red and grey.
Brain Freeze Tee
If you love ice cream and rely on higher brain functions, then take your time or suffer the inevitable brain freeze aptly demonstrated in this fun t-shirt in sizes S-XL.
Smart Kids Tee
You can get this one for just £12 right now, if you take a large size. Not sure how true the message is, let’s see… ?htym nabru na ti si ro sdrawkcab dear ot hguone trams uoy erA
Keep up to date with all things Youneek at www.youneekclothing.com, share their love of geeky toons, games and gadgets at their blog and hook up with them at Facebook and Twitter.
Optical Illusion Tee
Here’s a new one on me, it’s a very limited edition tee (just 20 for sale) titled Bird in the Cage by the UK label We Are Vultures. Essentially it’s based on an old Victorian spinning to that creates an optical illusion consisting of two images, one of an empty cage and the other of a bird.
There’s a rather cool video by expertvillage at Youtube that shows you how to make your own bird in a cage optical illusion, but I think that We Are Vulture’s t-shirt looks a lot more fun, especially as it must involve someone spinning around until they’re on the verge of spewing. Yes I still do have a streak of respect for juvenile humour. Anyway, you can get one of only 20 of these tees for 20 quid each in sizes small and medium (I guess the large ones have already sold out!).
Bird in the Cage Tee
This little gem and a couple of other (not quite as spectacular) tees are available at www.WeAreVultures.com.
Boiling Down A Brand With Cubicoola
I was recently approached by a young and enthusiastic t-shirt label Cubicoola, they seem like a great bunch, happy in their work, determined in their creative vision with plenty of ideas for the future, and that’s when I know I have to tread carefully, the fact is I felt there positives and negatives in their brand, their store, designs and label in general that would need to be tackled. read more

Credit Crunch For Breakfast Anyone?

Yes I know you’ve heard enough about the credit crunch by now but here’s a new t-shirt by Death by Design that’s guaranteed to brighten up that morning gloom. It’s called the Credit Crunch Cereal T-Shirt and is part of their new line of Credit Crunch Tees!
Before I dazzle and bathe you in a glorious sunshine yellow of their latest offering, here’s a little info about the UK t-shirt label Death by Design:-
1) They have a fantastic name, I mean, you have to admit Death By Design, you couldn’t get much better!
2) They’re based in Old Blighty in the heart of London in swanky Battersea so expect the poshest customer service :p
3) Their label was featured at The Clothes Show Live at Birmingham NEC last year – I remember a camp designer called Jeff Banks who always used to be on TV with that show? They also played a dodgy Pet Shop Boys track in the intro year on year, it was a bit like The London Marathon, until Digital TV you either watched it or turned the TV off. Still I am a fashion lout, don’t expect to meet me gawking by the catwalk any time soon, if I am there I am probably perving.
4) They offer a very funky and rather amusing blog which features all their new and most naughty t-shirts, so expect references to boobs, sex, and anything that could be related to a post-modernist tongue-in-cheek look at British life.
5) Their site design was overseen by the punk impresario Malcolm McClaren (Not really but it could have been ;)
6) All their t-shirts are available at a very reasonable £14.99, are made from soft 100% cotton and are even available wholesale. Their delivery rates are £3.95 for the UK, £5.95 for Europe and £8.95 for the USA.
7) They also design, print and sell tanks and hoodies (that’s tank tops not military hardware).
Right now for that elusive credit crunchy tee to cheer you up… read more
King Apparel – Tees That Reign Supreme
King-Apparel.com based in Stratford East London offer some of the slickest, soundest, graphic savvy tees in the streetwear market. If you’re looking for a label that delivers without question, has it’s finger on the pulse and can even tout its own branding without leaving a bad taste in your mouth then it has to be King Apparel.
It’s great to be reviewing another East London label, I really think something massive is happening down that way, both for arts and fashion, for a start Black Rat Press and a whole gang of great graffiti artists work down that way, and then there’s Cockney Empire I featured a while back. Of course just like many successful London labels, KA have a massive appeal around the world, partly down to their amazing marketing know how. Take a look at this poster for their next campaign, it takes its inspiration from the classic cult movie The Warriors (which you have to see if you love gritty 70s B-Movies – it’s required watching mate).

Hustlin’ Tees For The Hip Hop Cuties
Now we all know the traditional image for the hip-hop world, plenty of bling, fighting the power, mixing it up old school in the ghetto, yeah yeah. But here’s something different for all the fledgling girlie crews who want to represent but would rather stay on the cute side of fashion. Paul didn’t want to review these tees, he’s currently restraining his gag reflex due to the overpowering √ºber cutesy style of JustinHustlin.com‘s hip hop stylings, but I (Chris) know there are plenty of female t-shirt fans who’ll want to see what all the fuss is about.
The strange and wonderful world of JH’s designs have to be witnessed to fully encompass exactly where this rather dipsy yet talented designer is trying to take us, along a particularly untrodden path in the murky world of urban streetwear off to a gloriously pink and blingin’ land of fantastical baked goodies and hip hop toons that have yet to have been discovered by the world at large. My only real criticism is that there just aren’t enough of them (t-shirts that is) to get really stuck in here, but take a look at the future (I presume) of Justin’s world of character-based tees and I’m sure that you (girls with a penchant for over the top kitsch) will love what the guy is trying to do here!
