Top List of Threadless Clones aka T-Shirt Vote Sites

July 11, 2008

Yes it’s another list, it’s not just the fact that ‘top lists’ seem to rank so well on Google but that this one has been bugging me for a while. I’ve been looking for the perfect t-shirt voting site for ages, something that offers high prizes, fair rates and provides most of the publicity themselves. There isn’t one out there, I’ve seen so many of these sites relying on popular members rather than fantastic designers to boost their profile. Besides there are so many good t-shirt designers out there not getting the kudos they deserve, it seems to make more sense to set up your own t-shirt voting/fulfilment site rather than submit your designs, which probably explains why there are so many on this list! Latest Buy Tees News

July 11, 2008

Here’s a quick round up of what’s been going on for me lately.

First up I’ve just won the BlogDumps.com T-Shirt and Logo Design Contest!

Winner of Blogdumps.com T-shirt Competition!

Woot! I’ve won 200 Entrecard Credits and a t-shirt, but best of all it’s brought more attention to Buy Tees and of course my t-shirt designs in general. It’s got me in the mood to do a few custom logo tee designs if the demand is out there, and so if you’re interested I can sort you out a design for just $50 which is a piddling £25 here in the UK so get them whilst they’re hot! I take payments by Paypal to avoid the hassle and would take around a week depending on my workload to create one for your blog/site/company. T-shirts make great prizes for any purpose, as you can tell from the interest built up at BlogDumps.com recently, so well worth a try. If you’d like a custom logo/t-shirt design for $50 contact me at info@webdesignweb.com and I’ll come up with my best I can for you. If you don’t like the design, you don’t have to buy it, it’s all valid experience for me as I’m opening up my old web and graphic site WebDesignWeb.com and need to fill the portfolio with some more recent logo designs.

New T-Shirts On The Block - Politicians and Babies.

July 7, 2008

I’ve a rather diverse selection of tee news for you today, starting with a few Barack Obama t-shirts available at ThrivingInk.com. Before you ask, I would feature McCain tee shirts here if they were as funky as Thriving Ink’s, but I somehow doubt that Republicans would want to wear anything as out there as these (first two) beauties. I do lean towards Obama for obvious reasons, the world oil crisis which has worsened so much more since the initial attack on Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, and the travesty of the Iraq war as a whole, plus the fact that Obama looks awake! News on the t-shirt front.

July 1, 2008

Just a few pieces of news to pass your way. First of all I am building a queue of expectant t-shirt reviewees here (will review them all eventually - I promise!), that old Internet magic must be kicking in, I’ve never understood how you make a site popular, so I’ve stuck with providing as much original and worthwhile content as I can. I know there are a few reviewers out there who might not appreciate my approach, as the old school of t-shirt junkies seem to like the pic and link format, or rather they like to avoid whole concept of reviewing t-shirts altogether. Which to me seems ridiculous. Why treat t-shirts any differently than any other art form? People will read reams of detailed notes on which celebrity wore what and where. I found myself lost on a very girlie celebrity-obsessed blog the other day, I can’t even recall the name of it, I was trying to locate a useful article about t-shirts (which had been deleted by the looks of it) and found myself faced with a piece on Johnny Depp and his new clean cut look. Another Threadless Clone! (But this one has money!)

June 27, 2008

HereItself.com are starting with a bang! A top prize of $4000 if you win the competition. I’ve become a little jaded by all these Threadless clones, if you have a lot of friends who’ll sign up and vote then do it. If you’re just a t-shirt designer with great talent and only older miserable friends who don’t understand your passion for tees, and can’t afford the time to sign-up for a site to then click your design, then don’t.

As always we’re talking SEO skills here, not design skills. Of course to win outright your design has to be great, but the only way it’ll be chosen is if people know it’s there, hence the whole circle-jerking chicken and the egg conundrum begins. How do you get popular? Make great tees. How do you sell them? Be popular before you even designed them! I’m hoping if I repeat this problem I have with t-shirt voting systems some programming genius will work out a solution (Some Day :/) Read more

Sex and Death at Threadless

June 25, 2008

That title should pull in the punters… I’ve just submitted my first design to Threadless.com - gawd knows if I have got it right, their submissions process seems to be the most complicated yet, no wonder the prizes are so high! I’m not in it for the money, but as I was saying to a fellow t-shirt nutter today, it has to be worth it just for PR alone, I’m talking publicity here, no Google rankings, although the two go hand-in-hand I suppose.

I received an email from Threadless.com describing their latest competition and I was pulled in head first. The theme is Sex and Death and the competition is on behalf of Fray.com - a true stories site - I’ll probably need a true story for my submission as I just went ahead and drew the first thing that came into my mind, and here it is… Read more

Submit to Your Social Conscience - Submit Your Eco Tee!

DistrictCotton.com - Brooklyn's Trees Not Trash Charity T-Shirt CompetitionI was immersed in a “PHP programming hell” of my own making, desperately trying to install a directory script for TshirtPrinter.org* , when a very welcome distraction arrived in my inbox from Brett Novick of DistrictCotton.com. Brett wanted me to bring everyone’s attention to the latest round of their Ethical T-Shirt Design Competition - The theme is “Big City”, and it will benefit a very worthy cause, the charity “Brooklyn’s Trees Not Trash.” You can vote for any of the designs here or if you’d like to submit a t-shirt (read the guidelines first buddy!), you can email them here. This May/June the contest will benefit Trees Not Trash in Bushwick (or East Williamsburg) - Submissions are accepted until June 20.

The Prize is $300 cash, plus a $100 gift certificate to DC, plus $250 every time they reprint the shirt. Read more

Zombie T-Shirts - for people with brainsssss…

May 17, 2008

Do you love zombies? I mean in a purely platonic fashion of course! Ever since I first saw Dawn of the Dead (The original George A. Romero production - not that awful remake), I was hooked in, it just seemed more feasible at the time, what with all the talk of genetics on the horizon, biological warfare, what have you. What didn’t make sense was a rather fay gentleman biting ladies on the neck with fangs that his dentist must surely have noticed, even if no one else ever did. Read more
