Don’t Be Jealous Of Envee’s Tees
They say that the grass is always greener on the other side, who knows, I only have a small decked terrace with a few potted plants, but I’m guessing the idea that you can always aim higher rings true with many of us. The idea of a better life, a greater existence, a final destination is a concurrent theme throughout Envee Apparel‘s line of top quality designer t-shirts. I’ve just received a very enthusiastic email from Robert Hartland to take a look around their rather innovative fashion store and blog, and overall I’m impressed. I say overall because they are rather excessive in the logo department, something I’ve criticised many designers out there trying to make the grade, plus, and this can be easily remedied, the collection is a little scant on the ground right now. Bar those two rather minor criticisms I think the people at Envee maybe on to something, take a look at their “Destinations Collection” to see exactly what I am about to ramble on about.
Life can be full of surprises, it can take unexpected turns from one day to the next, some good, some not so good, some bad and some downright awful, but imagine, if you will for one moment, what happens after life? This is exactly the rather enormous question that Envee hopes to tackle with its unique line of tees for men and women. They have a very sharp attitude to design, the whole brand image has been well put together, from the design of the site to the shirts themselves, but don’t let the slick exterior of Envee fool you, these guys have their sights set on a whole other level, practically tackling the biggest question that any being on the planet will eventually face, and that is “what is the meaning of death?” as opposed to the more popular conundrum, “what is the meaning of life?”, which more than likely has an infinite choice of answers. Douglas Adams in his Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy novels states a simple mathematical equation resulting in the answer “42″, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey quotes the lyrics from a Poison track “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”, Monty Python’s Flying Circus takes a rather simpler route offering the idea that one should “Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.” But what about the meaning of death? Well in a word it is, as far as Envee are concerned, a “destination.” read more
Tees and Tats – Where East Meets West
Tattoo T-Shirts have always been a firm favourite in the graphic art t-shirt scene, and Tees and Tats (TeesAndTats.com), a relatively newcomer has recently released its first offerings, all of which have been designed by one of the world’s most celebrated tattoo artists, Marco Serio. Marco Serio began tattooing in a small town on the outskirts of Lisbon, Portugal. He always had a dream of building a reputation as a world class Japanese-style tattooist, before long Mario relocated to New York where he perfected his style further, garnering the admiration of both the global tattoo community and eventually the arts world as a whole.
As word spread throughout the close-knit New York arts scene, two forward thinking and highly ambitious modern Jewish Orthodox cousins (Jeremy and Ben Parker) hooked up with Marco and convinced him that his work was what the fashion industry had been waiting for. Mario spent considerable time designing each exclusive print at the prestigious Invisible NYC art gallery and tattoo studio on Orchard Street. As soon as the artwork was completed for the Parker brothers’ seven original and licensed t-shirt designs, commissioned specifically for Tees and Tats, Jeremy and Ben soon launched and began to promote their tattoo print collection of signature contemporary art shirts.
Jeremy in particular was proverbially ‘over the moon’ at the formation of the label ‘Tees and Tats’, having been fascinated by the intricacy and superb illustrative style of Eastern tattoo art. Soon the two fashion entrepreneurs continue to build the brand and showcase their revolutionary collection of high-art streetwear, setting a new standard, previously unseen in the industry. Every shirt is as I have stated, an original design, forming a fabulous and unique limited edition (700 numbered shirts for each design). Each tee is signed by the artist, printed to the most impeccable standards, made from the softest 100% combed ringspun cotton, and as you would expect, centred around Serio’s glorious Japanese tattoo artwork read more
A Code Of Honour Amongst The House Of Thieves
I’d like to introduce you to a brand new label, it’s full of twists and codes I’ve not been aware of before, in truth I had to get a few explanations from the guys behind House of Thieves, and it all boils down to the world of thieves and their criminal gangs’ iconic tattoo and pendant art. Reading the blog at HOT (makes a great acronym), they say that at anyone time “within the limits of the City of London alone, an army of male and female thieves, twenty thousand strong, find daily and nightly employment.” Sounds like things haven’t changed much since the times of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist to me.
The House of Thieves only have a few items on offer right now, the label is fresh out of the box and so are their ideas, and even though I don’t usually feature designers with such scant collections I thought I’d make an exception this time seeing as the whole idea is so novel. I’ve seen a few biker’s tees, faux-gang t-shirts and the likes before, but this, as I’ve mentioned, this is a first for me. If you want to go ahead and check out the store click here. Beware though, every design at HOT is a limited edition, once it’s sold out no more will be printed! read more
