Iron Fist
San Diego’s Iron Fist rule the indie tee scene with erm… an iron fist. Truly mind-blowing graphics including some of the most fail-safe t-shirt iconography going. Subjects include Lucha Libre, Día de los Muertos, sugar skulls, Catholic icons and more – this is about as powerful as it gets. Founded by two South African lads lost in America, Iron Fist is now a major worldwide indie brand offering cloth candy for thousands of street urchins, Thrash lovers, Goths, Emos, Punks, Bikers and more. Iron Fist has set the benchmark and how…
Lucha Libre Jesus Tee
On sale now at half price, $15 in sizes S-L in black. Absolutely stunning.
Lucha Libre Mary Tee
In a similar vein and for the same price in sizes XS-XL here’s another beaut. I’m not a religious man but damn do I love Mexican art. It’s as if they started street art before there were streets.
Barrio Muertos Tee
This time a more simple yet just as effective sugar skull tee. Love it. Only 2XL for guys ($15) and SM for girls ($18.50) left!
Sugar Witch Lace Up Back Tee
Wow, very stylish, I’m sure some ladies out there will grab this soon. It’s a sugar skull tee with a unique lace-up back, very sexy. Reduced from $30 to $18.50 in XS.
Thelma Tee
Designed by Rob Benavides, this is a totally sweet piece of Asian tattoo art served up on black cotton. Available in XS and M for $18.50 each.
You can find plenty more tees, hoodies, jackets, leggings and more from Iron Fist here.
Machete Premium Cuts
Machete Premium Cuts is a maddenly cool label, with a bevy of hawt models, and a hardcore selection of even hotter graphic tees. Based in Ontario, Canada, they ship their oversize printed beauties around the world, so if you’re into tattoo art, hard rock, and black, black and black, MPC are definitely for you!
Prices range from $5 to $20 dependent on sale items and unisex sizes range between small and XL. Let’s get cracking…
Mess Tank
Available in both a tank and a vee, if you have a dirty mind like me you can take a guess at that white liquid all over the babes in this design. If not, it’s just a sun tan lotion accident so don’t call the vicar quite yet. Both available for $20 each.
The Lament Tee
Nice bewbs lol! This one is supposed to be about “the burdens of bliss”, sure, I don’t mind a bit of hard graft if the incentives are right. Saying that, I do think this particular lady might need a Sacred Heart operation… stat. $20 in S-XL.
Cut U Down Tee
Ouch! Available in sizes S-Xl for $20 each.
Yarrrr! Tee
Shiver me timbers, it’s only $15 in sizes L-XL, perfect for deep sea fishing at Halloween, spooky :D
Oh Christ! Tee
Call your vicar now, the Anti Christ of all tees has arrived to $%^& you up… L-2XL for $20 each.
Magu
Magu is not a short sighted cartoon character from yesteryear, it’s actually a New York tee label founded in 2007 that’s got a strong following in its home territory. It’s signature tee sold out in Manhattan the moment it was released, and their house style crosses over between the street and the fashion conscious mainstream. Asides Deathrate which is quite an original type tee, most of their concepts are pretty much familiar, be it skulls, tattoos, hip hop references, Japanese art, and the prices are a little steep at $32 each, but I can see why they’re popular. They give their public what they want, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, it’d just be nice to see some more ground-breaking art, more challenging subjects, even a little more sophisticated humour. Still, I’m sure that food of thought will go down like salted nuts in a dry throat, “if it ain’t broke why fix it?.
What Magu really has going for it is its involvement with the trendy NY fashion scene, having already been involved in a couple of fashion events, and I’m sure that can only grow their following over time. The three tees featured here are $32 each and available in sizes S-2XL, some in a selection of colours too.
Death’s Royalty Tee
Also available in white, although personally I think it looks strongest in yellow, a traditional skull/tattoo tee, well executed but could do with a twist. So many skull tees out there now… don’t get me wrong, this is a good one, but still a skull.
Death Rate Tee
My favourite of the collection, and what looks like a great step forward for Magu, this one (for want of a less annoying phrase) ‘thinks outside of the box’. Yep it’s a text tee, but it’s a little more original, if only they could combine these two talents, I think Magu would see a great leap forward in recognition and exposure.
Wild Carp Tee
Yes, it’s another common theme, a Japanese style fish-themed tee, it’s not Koi, it’s Wild Carp, and it’s drawn really well, but could do with a tad more surrealism, or at least some colour. Saying that it does come in purple and yellow too.
I wish I could be more enthusiastic, Magu has all the elements needed for a cult label, maybe even something bigger, but they need to work on some more challenging designs for their next collection if they want to cause a stir on the Web.
See more Magu gear here.
Honour Over Glory
I am shocked to find I’ve never featured this incredible brand before. The 13-strong artist collective Honour Over Glory was established last year in February, HOG are based in Aberdeen Scotland, and their illustrated fashion range is quite phenomenal. Leaning towards the tattoo-style illustration, their designs are punchy, bold, and highly recognisable.
If you want to learn more about the team of artists at HOG click here. Asides the tees they offer hoodies, vests, hats, crew-necks and more. Their prices are sound at £12.99 each (when you see the quality you’ll see why they’re great value), in sizes S-XL, with quite a few goodies awaiting a reprint, I won’t tease you so only those in stock are featured below.
Warrior Girl Tee
A very celtic, tribal, powerful tattoo style illustration by Scott Gunner.
Young Heart Tee
Another cool tattoo style tee, you can never go wrong with wolves ;) This one’s by the art supremo Rik Lee.
Serpent Ties Tee
Perhaps my fave of the lot, love the snake, a great illustration by Callum Green.
Muertos Tee
Okay I’d tie the last one with this one, too many good tees, which is never a bad thing. Another great design by Scott Gunner.
Deer T-hoody
Yep it’s not quite a tee and not quite a hoody, but I have to include this one, very snazzy at £14.99. Should be a hit with the girlies.
See more fabbo tees at the almost irritatingly brilliant www.HonourOverGlory.com.
Real Tattoo Tees
If you love tattoos but are something of a coward when it comes to facing the needle, or like me have been put off by the elderly on the beach sporting 50 year old blue smears and blobs that used to be tattoos, then you need the customized tattoo shirt service from Curiology. Curiology is a funky little company founded by visual artist Alie Ward, originally from San Francisco, she’s now established in Los Angeles and well known for both her apparel line and her paintings.
Mainly Alie Ward paints, her Dichotomy series is very hot, she’s sold work and completed commissions for many clients in San Francisco and Hollywood, including several high profile celebrities. But more recently she’s established the Curiology apparel line, which features her original, customizable tattoo designs. What’s great about these unique tees as that they hand painted, each and everyone is truly unique and painted by a highly successful contemporary artist.
Here’s the blurb from the site: “Hand painted, customized, vintage-modelled tattoo shirts. Whomever or whatever you hold dear, just say the word, and we’ll help you tell the world. If you’ve got some love to show, but lack the resolve necessary to ink it into your flesh, Curiology’s vintage-modelled tattoo shirt is just the ticket. Our old-school tattoo design is silk-screened on a 100% cotton jersey shirt, and at your behest, we hand-letter the love of your choosing.”
Essentially the idea is to buy one tee for your partner and one for yourself emblazoned with each other’s names. They all seem to be heart tattoos right now – where are the skulls and nekkid ladies? Still there’s nothing stopping you getting a tattoo tee for yourself featuring say your fave sports team or city or whatever you fancy.
Check out the places Curiology have been featured:
Damn that’s a lot of PR! Looks like I’m slow on the uptake again, still I always get there in the end ;) If you fancy getting one or two of these unique hand-painted shirts they’re $48 each and available in a men and women’s sizes across the board.
It might seem a bit much for a t-shirt but thinking about it you’d pay a damn sight more even for a print let alone an original artwork by this artist.
It’s a really cool idea as far as I’m concerned, way better than most of the romantic guff shops sell out there, you never know, matching custom painted tattoo tees might even replace the wedding ring one day. Joke!
Tees and Tats – Where East Meets West
Tattoo T-Shirts have always been a firm favourite in the graphic art t-shirt scene, and Tees and Tats (TeesAndTats.com), a relatively newcomer has recently released its first offerings, all of which have been designed by one of the world’s most celebrated tattoo artists, Marco Serio. Marco Serio began tattooing in a small town on the outskirts of Lisbon, Portugal. He always had a dream of building a reputation as a world class Japanese-style tattooist, before long Mario relocated to New York where he perfected his style further, garnering the admiration of both the global tattoo community and eventually the arts world as a whole.
As word spread throughout the close-knit New York arts scene, two forward thinking and highly ambitious modern Jewish Orthodox cousins (Jeremy and Ben Parker) hooked up with Marco and convinced him that his work was what the fashion industry had been waiting for. Mario spent considerable time designing each exclusive print at the prestigious Invisible NYC art gallery and tattoo studio on Orchard Street. As soon as the artwork was completed for the Parker brothers’ seven original and licensed t-shirt designs, commissioned specifically for Tees and Tats, Jeremy and Ben soon launched and began to promote their tattoo print collection of signature contemporary art shirts.
Jeremy in particular was proverbially ‘over the moon’ at the formation of the label ‘Tees and Tats’, having been fascinated by the intricacy and superb illustrative style of Eastern tattoo art. Soon the two fashion entrepreneurs continue to build the brand and showcase their revolutionary collection of high-art streetwear, setting a new standard, previously unseen in the industry. Every shirt is as I have stated, an original design, forming a fabulous and unique limited edition (700 numbered shirts for each design). Each tee is signed by the artist, printed to the most impeccable standards, made from the softest 100% combed ringspun cotton, and as you would expect, centred around Serio’s glorious Japanese tattoo artwork read more
Shiroi Neko Tattoo Tees
Thai label Shiroi Neko (Japanese translation “White Cat” – meaning luck) produce some of the most beautiful tees I’ve seen in years, and in a way their work is almost too good for the humble t-shirt, or even tattoos for that matter. I’d almost rather see their work as wall hangings, although in my house it would be tricky to find the space with all my retro prints I’ve collected over the years.
Nevertheless I’m proud to say that labels like Shiroi Neko are raising the stakes in the t-shirt market, their incredible eye for detail is a must for any savvy fashion buyer looking to add more impact to their show, these are the kind of t-shirts I expect to see sported by Hollywood celebrities, let’s hope they have to pay money for them, because sheer talent should carry this company into the big league. read more
