Despair.com T-Shirts - The Party’s Over - Let’s Get Down…
June 21, 2008
The world is on a downer, it’s true. The world economy is breathing its last breath, all vital resources are running out, our post-war capitalist dreams are turning into one great big nightmare, we haven’t got long to play before the whole of society will have to take stock and cut-back and get real. In the meantime there are a few bright sparks out there spreading the word of misery, accounting the disappointments we all share and feeding them back into the loop. Some of them can be found at Despair.com
I only discovered this site two days ago, if you have a blindly chipper outlook on life Despair isn’t for you. If you always prefer to talk up a situation, if you enjoy spinning positivity for the common good, don’t choose despair. Their t-shirts don’t offer a pessimistic outlook on life, but they are realists, Despair’s focus is precise and brutal, down-to-earth and matter-of-fact, yet always tinged with that bitter-sweet humour that only the wonders of irony can provide.
You won’t find anything pretty at their site, this isn’t a visual parade of fantasy and craft, this is all about functionalism and delivering the message. Demotivation is not such a bad thing after all, it can help you slow down and take stock of reality as it is and not as the media portrays it, or your greatest wishes command it, or what you’d simply like to hear. Just plain old ugly truth. Read more
Paperwork T-Shirt by Paul Baines
June 20, 2008
Yes, yes, I’m submitting to DesignByHumans.com again, no I’m not a glutton for punishment, I know I’ll probably get very few votes, but who cares, it’s all good. Matt from DBH support has put my mind at rest, (see the last post), and be assured I will keep pressing them to improve the comments system. However we’re both here, and for one thing, and that’s t-shirts.
The latest submission to Design By Humans, it’s called Paperwork and I believe its pretty much self-explanatory. It features a two characters wrapped in newspaper, one sweeps the road, the other is homless, the two share a moment under a sky-filled faux-water colour ticker-tape parade. I could push the whole eco argument again, but in all honesty this is more an exercise in the pointlessness of life than ecology. To be more accurate, the pointlessness of many of today’s society’s mechanisms of control, order and general management. Those who have little clear up those who have most, those who have nothing are cleared out of sight, and those with everything can’t see the trees for the paper.

Option-G and Cole Gerst - T-Shirts to Perfect Life’s Imperfections.
June 16, 2008
Option-G Apparel is an extension of the design firm Option-G based in Los Angeles and headed by artist extraordinaire Cole Gerst. You may have heard of him already, or seen one of his many designs on posters, paintings or prints. He has been particularly successful in the music world, where you’ll most likely recognize his works. Gerst even produces his own monthly comic strip in the LA Weekly called “LaLa Land” which features his two dogs roaming the streets of Hollywood.
Gerst has a prestigious arts background with a string of successful art shows behind him, having shown his work across had shows all over the USA as well as a retrospective show in Glasgow, Scotland of his rock posters. The t-shirt line was started as a mere sideline, simply another medium to explore his unique view of the world, and experiment with different ideas, whilst having fun with his audience. The instant feedback provided by t-shirt fans helps many creative minds in their quest to hone their skills and find perfection in their art. Option-G’s started selling to the public 4 years and since expanded into a variety of products, even wallpaper would you believe? Cole has a truly unique style, I’d describe him as the Jasper Johns of the T-Shirt World, take this design as a clear example:-

Gun T-Shirts Banned By Airport… Taste Is Not Terrorism!
June 10, 2008
I found this report ‘Gun T-Shirt was a Security Risk‘ at the BBC’s news site today, and it made me wonder, how many gun t-shirts would it take to shut down an airport? Firstly it’d be a great way to highlight the demolition of human rights, privacy laws, and general freedoms of a democracy in the name of “Anti-Terrorism”. Secondly it would do the Earth good to take a day off from stratospheric air pollution. Thirdly it would be interesting to see if airport security would refuse a whole plane load of gun-themed t-shirt wearing passengers, leaving flight stranded on the airport. A picture of a gun cannot be offensive, it cannot be deemed to be a security threat, the Nanny State is getting to big for her slippers, there’s a vast difference between taste and terrorism… Read more
Eggheads T-Shirt at Design By Humans
June 9, 2008
You see this is the fun bit, for both you and me (honest!), I’m a t-shirt designer and I run a t-shirt news and reviews blog, and so unlike mortal t-shirt reviewers, I can create and submit works and let you in on the process, success or failure, it’s all still useful information I’m sur
We’ll call Eggheads a tester, I’d just written about my fave tees at DesignByHumans.com last night; my eyes were bleary, my fingers trembling with the possible onset of RSI (fingers crossed ouch), a strong coffee by my MacBook and a strange vision in my head, banging at the insides of my eyes, pleading for the possibility of escape. It was an act of kindness (for my own sanity), yet looking at the design in the clear light of day, and with a clearer head, I have to admit, this is one twisted t-shirt design. Read more
A T-Shirt Reviewer Reviews T-Shirt Review Sites!
June 4, 2008
Some people have said I’m committing SEO suicide with this post, but seeing as I don’t have a clue how the mind of Google decides these things, I’m sure it won’t make much of a difference. So here it is…
