Dirty Dudes

Dirty Dudes are launching their collection on November 1st, I say collection but there are only 4 items on offer (including a hoodie) and they’re rather self-promotional i.e covered with logos. I’ve written about holding back on brand logo tees when you’re just starting up a label, unless you have a massive marketing budget and a TV campaign in the running. The truth is logo t-shirts aren’t my favourite kind, although DD do a good job with a couple of tattoo style designs and quite a fun fat font tee too. The shirts are available for pre-order right now in all sizes at their Storenvy store, which has been spruced up quite nicely.

I get what they’re about, urban, street style tees for young savvy lads – although they’re aiming for the female market too I think the name might hinder most girls from snapping them up. Anyway, I might be proved wrong, maybe DD have done their research and they’ve already got the following to pick up the slack. We shall see. One thing though, I’d recommend they buy the domain name dirtydudesapparel.com and link it to their store pronto -  if they want any decent Google rankings that is.

Mess Tee

Mess Tee

Love the name, and even if its’ a very heavy piece of self-promotion the font is nice and fat and the composition works well. Printed on high quality, slim fit, unisex Tultex Apparel tees at $18 each.

CrossBones Tee

CrossBones Tee

The tattoo/crest style composition is looking a little tired for me these days but DD have done a decent job of it and the diamond is really well designed. However I don’t quite see the connection – a pirate’s chest of booty (that’s gold bullion and jewels not a plump rear) would have made more sense. Thinking about it a diamond skull would have been even better. Printed on high quality, slim fit, unisex, American Apparel Tees at $20 each.

DD Sailor Tee

DD Sailor Tee

I’ve seen a lot of “anchor tees” in my time, this is definitely one of the better, a very nice composition and a far better typographic choice than in their CrossBones tee. It’s even a little more “dirty” which is a relief. Printed on high quality, slim fit, unisex, Tultex Apparel tees at $18 each.

I’d like to see far less branding, more graphics, in fact more t-shirts. If I was running DD I’d make the subject matter far more salacious, for a start, where are the strippers and fast cars? Lol. I’d like to see DD take grunge to the extreme, with ink splatters, smudges and wilder graphics. Ah well… maybe these  particular Dirty Dudes live on the right side of the tracks rather than the wrong ones – heh.

Do Believe The Hype!

Here’s another new clothing line hot off the press for you. Hype Industries is an up-and-coming urban streetwear brand that prides itself on creating instant classic stylish tees with attitude. I don’t mean bad ass kid’s crap, I mean the real deal. Cool, confident, straight-talking style. Their ultra clean designs, use of quality fabric, and originality sets them in good stead for a growing following. Think street, urban, hip-hop, blended with a positive spin on life, a smattering of corporate subversion and iconic nostalgia and you’re there. To get the ball rolling here’s a 20% discount code “HYPESTIMULUS” – just enter it at their checkout for a great saving and that’s no hype :p

Based in Southern California, Hype Industries values “fresh fashionable lines that represent a classic look mixed with the twisted reality of the daily grind. Independent minded and overflowing with passion, the Hype brand is a positive take on a negative world and beacon of hope for all.”

Check out these three tees as a taster of what’s to come at H.I…

I used to think Evel Knievel was “the man” when I was a nipper, asides being an astronaut I couldn’t think of a cooler career. Although I didn’t realise at the time just how many bones the guy broke throughout his. I begged for an Evel Knievel toy for years, yes my single mum was as broke as they came, so I never did get it. I even liked the jump suit, although it was the Seventies so who could blame me?.Anyway if you love all things Knievel, and hate all things empirical, then this tee’s for you. Available for $18 in sizes S-2XL here.

Emblematic Problematic Tee

The Emblematic Problematic Tee is so cool, I mean really, when was the last time anyone subverted Rolls Royce’s branding? The fact is RR has really lost it’s sheen over the past few decades, if it wasn’t for the oil billionaires of the Middle East I doubt the car would still be made. The amount of amazing forms of transport available to anyone with a few hundred grand might have something to do with it. Very very slick design, available for $18 in all sizes here.

Home Jersey Tee

This one is so retro it hurts, a total classic, beautifully put together, it feels that natural as a design it almost precludes comment. My favourite of the bunch, the Home Jersey Tee is available for $18 in all sizes here.

This is one hell of a confident brand, they definitely know what they’re doing, a few more like this and everyone will have heard of Hype Industries. Keep your eyes peeled at www.bewareofthehype.com.

Urban Tees at The Ugly Kids Club

The Ugly Kids Club Urban WearProbably one of the coolest labels we’ve featured at Buy Tees so far, The Ugly Kids Club is a UK based urban wear brand and collective with a strong street following who’s vibrant collection has been featured in the likes of:

Loaded Magazine‘s 10 of the Best : ‘No. 8 – Best for in The Club’ – Loaded Oct 09
Front Magazine : ‘…ace bunch of designers, artists and tattooists… website has a f***-load of tees, so go and treat your eyes’ – Front Sep 09

TUKC provide a great online experience, offering a shop where you can load up on all their latest t-shirts and sweats as well as a vibrant online community and blog packed with tons of features on everything from fashion to music, street art, skateboarding, funny vids, gigs and more. But what matters to us and hopefully you the most are the quality and originality of their t-shirt collection, and don’t worry, you definitely won’t be disappointed. They have some powerful designs under their belt, think ‘street’, think in your face, think swagger, you’re there. One thing you can be assured of, these tees aren’t ugly!

No matter the attitude you’ll find their t-shirts are all of a high quality in both design and production, with some very unique concepts and ideas on offer, spoofs of corporate logos, booze, the Facebook phenomena, tattoos and skulls seeming to be the order of the day right now. Their T Shirts range from £25 to £16 and are all limited edition, generally they won’t print more than 100 of each design and once a design is sold out, it’s gone forever – so no need to worry about staying fresh!

They’ve had some very fine grimy tees on offer in the past too, their archive reveals all that have been sold and sadly not available any more – their store includes an archive in the footer where you can see what you’ve missed. This one – UCK Rizla – would’ve been my favourite (modelled by Skinnyman and featured at Grime Garms.)

Psyched Tees From Disturbia Clothing

Disturbia ClothingFirst off I’m back, I’ve been to the back and beyond, I’m sunburned and peeling all over but all in all I feel fresh as a daisy so let’s get down to business and lay Disturbia Clothing on the Buy Tees couch and see what makes them and their legion of fans tick. If you’re already familiar with this edgy Brit label then you’re in good company. Check out this documentary of The Prodigy’s latest tour and you just might see Liam sporting one of their best-sellers, their Disco t-shirt.

I always feel right at home, culturally speaking, when I visit their site, everything from their products to the web design to their constantly updated left field blog shimmer with a slightly tongue-in-cheek British fervour for the hey days of punk. Their style spills right out onto their highly flamboyant illustrated t-shirt prints which are all highly recognisable as unique yet strangely familiar iconic pieces that make up their collection. Their ideas are their tour de force, some perhaps more obvious than others, but in a good way, in the way you might think ‘damn, I could have thought of that’ except you know you didn’t, and if you ever did, you know you’d never got around to creating them, because if you had I’d most likely be writing about your label right now :p

Their reputation has spread far and wide into the world of independent fashion retailing with 17 online stockists and what I guess must be another hundred or more stores selling their unique wares around the world. So if you like what you see then there’s no excuses when it comes to tracking down any of their infectiously irrational tees, hoodies and accessories (if you don’t order direct), besides which they have a handy mailing list so you can keep up to date with all their latest offerings no matter what corner of the world you may reside. So without further a due, rip a few holes in your best pair of jeans, stick a safety pin through your nose, kick the TV Screen, deface any image of royalty you may have lying around and get ready to enter the minds of Disturbia. read more
