Running With Scissorhands Tee
It’s funny, I was just writing about how most funny t-shirts need to improve in the artwork department. Well, here’s another example of why one doesn’t need to compromise another. It’s the latest winning t-shirt at S.A crowdsourcing site Springleap.
Running With Scissorhands Tee
Designed by Kookylove (don’t worry that’s not their real name) and available for £17 in sizes S-L for girls and S-XL for the guys.
Win $1250 – Springleap Contest
Springleap have hooked up with Vodacom in South Africa to offer a very generous $1250 in their latest contest, yep that’s US dollars and not South African Rand, so if you’ve got some design talent and you’ve never tried your luck there, this would be the time to start! The theme is “connectivity”, essentially it’s all a clever piece of marketing for a phone company who’s marketing department seemed to have got caught up in the whole idea of crowdsourcing, people hooking up with each other, that kind of jazz. Anyway, forget the hype, all you need to know is that:
The deadline for submissions to win $1250 is March 25th 2011.
The theme is “connectivity” and in particular imagining a life without Vodacom, without SMS (without mobile phones beeping incessantly… trains full of business jerks texting Eastern European call girls because their wives are screwing their fitness coaches… interruptions at dinner, or when you’re getting it on with that someone special… a life without mobile phones? Bliss.)
If you’re not a member then sign up at www.springleap.com and get cracking on that vision of a quieter, better dull and boring world without Vodacom!
R100 Gift Voucher from Springleap
To wish all their customers old and new a happy Xmas, South African tee community Springleap is giving away a number of gift vouchers worth R100 (100 Rand = 14.6342 USD as of today). To get yours you just need to email eran@springleap.com for your voucher – only one per person!
They say it’s so they can “personalise” each voucher, so if it’s for a friend then you’d better tell them who. It looks like a rather savvy marketing stunt to me, first off their tees start at R183 so the voucher is really just a discount code. What’s more they’ll get your email address to boot, so it’s up to you, if you were going to buy a tee at Springleap anyway, you’re quids Rands in. Otherwise… nah.
It would be a lot simpler and more honest if they’d just release a discount code instead – ah well – you live and learn…
Illuminati Propaganda Tee
Wowzers, it’s been a while since I’ve really liked a Springleap t-shirt contest winner and damn what a turn up for the books, it’s half way to Fairey Land (as in Shepard). Red and black is always a stonking colour combo as far as I’m concerned, it’s everything nasty and evil you could hope for. The Illuminati Propaganda Tee has earned Suburbanhijinx aka James Campbell a whopping $1000 in their massive rollover competition, it’s no surprise either considering it’s his 4th win at the site, I think I’ve even reviewed on those winning designs way back when.
Illuminati Propaganda Tee
The Illuminati Propaganda design received a final vote of 4.80 which I swear is massive for Springleap, be prepared to queue lol. You can buy this beaut for R183 / $24 / €19 / £16 in all sizes for guys and girls.
Speaking of evil reincarnate, Orwellian or otherwise I must admit there’s a slight resemblance to Simon Cowell’s ‘X Factor’. Ah well it’s probably just coincidence, then again it could be a vast demonic conspiracy – who knows…
Springleap to their store for more.
Double The Fun at Springleap
It’s been quite a while since Buy Tees has featured Springleap, they’re a highly popular South African t-shirt community with designers and fans all around the world. Something I was getting a little tired of were the themed contests over there, well it seems I’m not the only one because Springleap has changed it’s policy to an open door one, i.e draw what you like, as long as it doesn’t break any decency laws, but asides that you’re free to express yourself any which way and how. Even better news is that to celebrate the shift back to open-brief design submissions the next prize is going to be a staggering $1000! If you’re an old pro and made your name at other t-shirt communities such as Threadless and DBH, now’s the time to hop on board with Springleap and try and get your highly talented mitts on their impressive pile of cash! What’s more you’ll earn residuals from every t-shirt sold too…

All We Are Is Energy T-Shirt
As Moby and many physicists before him have said, “we are all made of stars”, which isn’t strictly true, since we are only made from a small selection elements, chemicals and minerals borne of the vastness of space, but it’s a nice thought all the same. All We Are Is Energy is far more apt, and luckily enough that is the title for Springleap‘s latest design winner Sebasebi who harks from Argentina. There’s a wonderful painterly style to this one, reminds me a little of some of Imaginary Foundation‘s work.
All We Are Is Energy T-Shirt
It’s available for pre-order at £12/€15/$19/R183 in all sizes here. Energy and matter are the same thing, they simply vibrate at different frequencies, matter which is what we are for the main part runs at a far slower rate. I will let you make of that what you will :p Loving this tee, probably the best to come out of the Springleap stable so far.
Darth Vader Tee at Springleap
Springleap.com‘s latest winning tee features Darth Vader with the caption “Who’s Your Daddy?”.
Cute vector rendition of the classic Starwars baddie, not sure about the yellow t-shirt though.
Anyway check it out…

Rock ‘N’ Roll Forever!
Rock ‘n’ Roll will never die, or so it seems according to the latest winning tee at South African t-shirt community Springleap.com. This rather fetching punk/grunge style design was submitted by Suburbanhijinx and it’s his first of what should hopefully be many more fab illustrated tees. Using a variety of techniques including half-tone and grunge vectors, this photo montage piece definitely leaps out from the cotton, highly reminiscent of punk wear in Britain in the 1970′s, the image features a skull-faced rocker clad in leathers and sporting an impressive Mohawk haircut.
Here’s what the artist says about Stayin Alive – ‚ÄúKeeping in mind the theme of rock‚ĶI was thinking of what kind of ‚ÄúROCK‚Äù ideas I could do with out some crazy dragon or epic looking character with lightning bolts‚ĶI was immediately drawn to memories of old punk rock music zines. I did this design inspired by those photocopied, underground, phenomena. Hope you like it!‚Äù.
Love the decayed look and feel of this tee, take a look for yourself! read more
