A T-Shirt Forum For A New Generation
As Liz from PopCultureTees.com – the creator of the brand new t-shirt forum TeeDesignTalk.com told me the other day – “one forum (no names mentioned :p) out there is definitely the big boy of the industry – but I’ve always considered them more of an industry forum than a designer forum. When I was working in the screen printing industry, they were my first stop for technical questions…. not so much for design questions. They are definitely grumpy! I think that with all the people who are participating in sites like emptees and threadless there’s a whole new set of people who are interested in t-shirts, but coming from an entirely different direction. They’re the people who are design cool stuff, not t-shirts for schools and churches.”
I couldn’t agree more with Liz and hopefully you are also in agreement, we need to step up the evolution in the world of t-shirts and reflect the massive developments in our industry, it’s true that since the emergence of sites like Threadless.com there has been a noticeable key change in the attitude and culture of both designers and consumers of the beloved tee. read more
The Evolution of the Screen Printer at Monkey in a Dryer
Now and again I get emails from printers of all sorts, and the first thing that comes to mind is the question “what’s your unique selling point?”. I know you’re here to read about t-shirts, great designs, great designers, labels of all kinds, and everything under the sun to do with the art medium that is the tee. I’ll give a shout to a new t-shirt crowd-sourcing site now and again, a discount or two, perhaps a competition or contest, and of course any good cause I can help with, but I don’t really feature many printers.
The reason being that for the main part there mainly of the same camp, some guy with a whole heap of technology printing anything under the sun to survive. The sites are usually functional at best, the prices reasonable if you’re lucky and the artwork, well the less said the better
But recently Andrea Poague from Monkey in a Dryer approached me for a little publicity and to be honest, despite the fact that MIAD’s site is absolutely gorgeous there wasn’t much I could tell you. After all, most people in the biz either print their own, use a friend or go for potluck and choose the nearest printer they can.
However had a suspicion there’s a design genius behind the label, just take a look at the site and you’ll see what I mean, it’s a fabulously endearing site, full of character, humour and business savvy. I thought I’d test Andrea’s metal and see if the people at MIAD could take it one step further and show me the proof in the pudding, they did, and then some. Click any of these thumbs to see the quality of their design work, you will be amazed:- read more
