Disturbia – Spring/Summer Collection

Yay, the awesome Disturbia are back with another phenomenal collection of tees, vees, hoodies and accessories for the Spring/Summer. As usual expect eye-popping graphic excesses exploring the darker nether regions of society as well as some rather twisted humour to keep you all bubbling along. Subjects include dead whacked out Beach Boys, a satanic Beethoven and the Lizard King himself Jim Morrison – let’s just hope he doesn’t ask anyone to lament for his pee pee :p All this and more is available at £22 tees for guys and girls and vests at £20 each in sizes S-XL.

Damn, there are just too many to feature, I can only give you an idea of what to expect, although really all you need to know is this… “Wow!”

Travis Bickle Tee

Travis Bickle Tee (Guys)

Travis Bickle Tee (Girls)

Are you looking at me? No you’re looking at the finest t-shirt tribute to De Niro’s masterpiece, ‘Travis Bickle’. I love Taxi Driver so much, it’s the only time I can stand a performance by that awful “Can do!” woman Cybill Shepherd. I love the perspective in this one too, a perfect Bickle pose. Available as tees and vests for guys and tees for girls.

Kalma Tee

Kalma Tee (Guys)

Kalma Vee (Girls)

Kalma refers to the Finnish goddess of death rather than the Islamic prayer – just in case someone has a Fatwah brewing. Lovely detail as usual, gore has never looked as beautiful. Available as tees and vees for guys and girls.

Bad Vibrations Tee

Bad Vibrations Tee (Guys)

Bad Vibrations Tee (Girls)

If you’re an old tripper like me and ever had the misfortune to be bombarded by Pet Sounds just as you’re peaking then you will definitely relate to this tee. If not, take my word for it, as far as psychedelic sound goes The Beach Boys are more like heroin than heroes, unless of course you’re straight as a die. I love the style of Bad Vibrations, it’s something of a departure from the wild in-house style at Disturbia, but it works, for sure. You can go surfing in sorrow with this tee, no vests this time.

Symphony For The Devil Tee

Symphony For The Devil Tee (Guys)

Symphony For The Devil Tee (Girls)

Beethoven is spending eternity scrawling ditties for Diablo, don’t ask why, I have no idea, I’d have thought Wagner had more to answer for. But if you’re into your dead classical composers, this one’s a great start ;)

Wolves Tee

Wolves Tee (Girls)

Wolves Vee (Girls)

Wolves Tee (Detail)

So good it hurts, the illustration is a killer, perhaps the best yet from Disturbia, incredible colour and tonal shading make this one worthy of a major hardback graphic novel cover. Hope to see more like this for the future. Dead sexy too! Only for the girls this time, as vests and tees in sizes S-XL.

One more for luck…

Voodoo Chile Tee

Voodoo Chile Tee (Guys)

Voodoo Chile Tee (Girls)

Voodoo Chile Tee (Detail)

Now, if you’re going to get out of your bonce put some Hendrix on, it’s honestly the only way to go, this guy played guitar like most people orgasm. If you have a friend that can’t play guitar but insists you should listen sit them down with Are You Experienced and walk away. They should either improve or give up by the next morning… lol. Tees for the girls and tees/vees for the guys.

Incredible stuff as always – do you want more?

Brain Wash Tee

If you’re wardrobe needs a punk fashion boost then take a look at the Brain Wash Tee from German label Berlin Bonez. Designed and generously screen printed by Mercurius, this shirts features a skull rather than a brain in a washing machine. I’m assuming it’s on its final spin :p

Brain Wash Tee

Brain Wash Tee (Black)

Brain Wash Tee (White)

Brain Wash Tee (Back)

Brain Wash Tee (Detail)

Red and black graphic mayhem, evil photo montage and  a crazy spiral motif combine to create one of the scariest washing machines I’ve ever seen, not including the one in my kitchen which has a life of its own and likes to violently dance around the lino every Sunday. You can get this t-shirt in black and white, personally I prefer the black, in sizes S-XL for €35 each. I really like the logo on the black, perhaps it could be a future tee in itself? The printed neck label is cool too!

For more punk attitude tees in much the same colour combo, skulls, death, and general anarchy visit their store at www.BerlinBonez.com.

Lead & Light

Lead & Light are an Indiana-based indie tee brand offering a selection of outstanding grunge shirts. Each is individually hand printed at East Fork Studio print shop on a 4 colour silkscreen press. The average price is usually $15 each plus shipping and sizes range between XS and XXL. Graphically there’s something superbly retro about the collection, half way between Gothic and Punk, lingering on the sidelines of a Joy Division album cover, tempered by the wear and tear of a two-bit life on the bad side of town.

In case you’re wondering about the name of this particularly grungetastic label, the word “Lead” is indeed a reference to the element and not leadership. My initials make up Lead’s chemical symbol, abbreviated from the Latin word “Plumbum”. I think you can guess the amount of grief I had at school for that one. Oh happy days.

Beware of Shadows

Evelyn from Beware of Shadows contacted Buy Tees for a review of their alternative streetwear brand, if you tread the darker side of life, in its multifarious forms, and have a penchant for punk, death metal and the supernatural, you should enjoy their character-based collection. BOS offers a lot more besides highly illustrated tees, they offer a rather novel community called “The Brood”. When you subscribe to their newsletter you also get online access to their graphic novels, all of which feature and fill in the details on all their characters featured in their t-shirts. Besides The Brood their are plenty more freebies on offer including free wallpapers, buddy icons, screensavers and videos. This is definitely a 101 for all aspiring t-shirt brands out there looking for pointers on how to build brand loyalty!

All the tees are printed white on black (and vice-versa), in the inimitable in-house BOS style which remind me of 80′s punk-style illustration for bands like The Creeps, but with a vintage edge. Available in all sizes at $21.99 each in sizes M-XL. There seems to be a mixture of photo-montage and old school ink going on here, some designs are stronger than others, but there’s definitely a cachet of coolness about BOS’s product.

Skull Jammin’ Tee

Skull Jammin' Tee

Very hardcore, this design is so grungy you can almost feel the grit between your teeth. It shouldn’t work but it does, it’s just so nasty it’s cool. BOS delves into the dangers of melting faces through guitar feedback. Now that would damage the music industry ;)

Punk Skull Tee

Punk Skull Tee

Most definitely my fave in the BOS collection, now that’s a mohawk! Seriously punk to the enth degree, the design is grungy as you’d expect, but damn, so well executed. I wish the print covered the whole of the front panel, I have an aversion to “rectangular boxes” in t-shirt design, still you can’t have everything. I do however love the tattoo-style, obligatory skull, snake and wreath included for free – heh.

Dead Draw Tee

Dead Draw Tee

Has their been a decent zombie-western yet? I think it’s about time we had some dead cowboys shooting it out, or perhaps their hands might fall off when they draw? Oh well. Great concept, I don’t like the little white spot in the bottom right corner of the design though (left if you’re wearing it), not unless it’s some kind of microscopic skull or even a logo. Still, at least BOS are breaking out of the box to some extent.

Beware of Shadows has a lot of promise, I’d avoid the photo-montage/stencils and move straight on to pure ink/vectors, some more detail would be nice, although I wouldn’t want them to lose their inimitable grunge edge. Still, that’s just my opinion. See, read, learn all that is at the heart of darkness of Beware of Shadows at their site www.BewareOfShadows.com.

New Tees At Disturbia

Perhaps my favourite indie British t-shirt label has just released its Autumn/Winter collection of tees and yet again there are a few blinders on offer. If you love your colours day-glo and your illustration beautiful but gory, then you have to check out the new designs at Disturbia Clothing. They’ve even redesigned the whole site (yet again), I loved the old Marshall Amp style theme they had going on there but I have to admit their new logo is so crazy, so insane, I am more than duly placated on the shift in branding.

I’ve noticed I still haven’t wangled a permanent voucher code off these guys for our discounts section, I asked them a year or so ago but things were looking to tight at the time. Still, they seem to be on the up and up so fingers crossed I can get you lucky lucky people some savings real soon! In the meantime have a slaver over these Gothic beauties, all these tees are available in all sizes for guys and girls at £22 each… gore was never as beautiful as it is at Disturbia!

Vague Tee

Vague Tee

If a blog is a marriage then I’m a bad husband, I know I neglect the girls here and should feature more tees for them, I suppose asides being a typical guy it comes down to all the choice women have in fashion blogs compared to guys. Still… could do better. Which is why I wanted to start off by featuring Disturbia’s Vague Tee. Yes it’s available for guys as well, but I predict this will be their biggest seller yet as a girl’s tee, it’s got it all, fashion, glamour, cynicism, and a general despair at the media and its divisive methods of making them feel dowdy with the aid of anorexics and computer magic.

Sirens Tee

Sirens Tee

Sirens Tee (Womens)

Wowzers. Here are three babes, most likely belonging to the undead persuasion, so dutifully and intricately drawn it almost seems a shame to throw it in the wash. There are tees I wear to death, one of them happens to be a Disturbia t-shirt, this could well be another. Ouch, so good it hurts. Amazingly designed, the Sirens Tee is available for men and women at £22 each.

Zoltar Tee

Zoltar Tee (Womens)

Zoltar Tee

Ever since seeing the cornball comedy launchpad for Tom Hanks career, the prospect of finding a Zoltar Machine like the one that’s featured in the movie ‘Big’ has haunted me. It’s probably the best arcade machine that was ever made, so creepy, so pointless. If I had so much money I didn’t need worry about the bills I’d hook up one of these to a stock market picks site and make a fortune. Of course if I could invent one that could promise eternal youth that would probably pull in a little more profit :p Cool as ****, as usual Disturbia have excelled themselves and they were already doing that before. This tee rocks… it rocks hard. Get it for girls and guys for £22 each in all sizes.

The Ignoble Truth

Ignoble, a punk (for the lack of a better description) t-shirt brand, is about as close as you’re going to get to anarchy in the rather prettified world of fashion. If their tees were blind dates I’d walk out the door before they spotted my red carnation., but if I found myself locked in bar room brawl, perhaps even at the gates of hell, I’d want Ignoble on side. They’re rough and tough, there’s no two ways about it, disillusioned art school renegades much like myself, but with the advantage of a decade less compromise on the planet,

We’ve all seen, worn, and even described t-shirts as having ‘attitude’, but for the main part they are the philosophical equivalent of swearing at the dinner table or sticking up two fingers ‘at the man’. Ignoble go a step further, in fact a leap, and I really hope it’s not to their detriment, especially as most anarchists don’t believe in capitalism, or at the very least, can’t afford it. Still, I have to admire their guile. You won’t find any ‘pretty pictures’ in their collection of limited edition tees and art prints. Not a single vector swirl in sight, not even a jot of colour on show, but if I could award a t-shirt brand for sheer bravado, I’d give these guys an A+.

Ignoble seem to really believe in their cause, which personally I find as refreshing as a cool sea breeze on a stiflingly hot summer’s day. This label most definitely want to cut the crap when it comes to fashion, so much so it might even be described as ‘anti fashion’. But whatever it is they do, I’d bet my bottom dollar it isn’t all just hype, if it was they’d knock out something far more visually digestible than the brutalist one colour ‘scratch drawings’ that emblazon every one of their tees. Still, I’ve always been something of a trouble-maker, so this might just be a twisted subconscious kinship obscuring my judgement, so I’ll let you all decide for yourselves.

Dino Boy Tee
Dino Boy Tee

Here’s what Ignoble have to say about their Dino Boy Tee… “promoting the extinction of the office-lounging, suit-and-tie wearing dill-holes highly characteristic of most white-collar American co-workers. Maybe you’re already acquainted with Dino Boy. No surprise, we’ve run into him quite a few times ourselves.” I can relate to that one, I spent a few years in my early twenties trying to ‘subvert the system from the inside’. If you’re thinking the same but you’re forced to wear a suit and tie and sell crap to cretins, don’t bother, they’ve already got you by the short and curlies. Probably my fave at the store, available for $22.95 in sizes S-XL printed on American Apparel in a limited run of 50 tees.

Cash Advance Tee
Cash Advance Tee

Naked ladies and cold hard cash, certainly a powerful combo, however I’m not quite sure if Ignoble are for or against, is this about the exploitation of women, or an admiration for those women who can with a mere glimpse of their anatomy fleece a sizeable population of men for all they’re worth? Either way, it’s a shocker, as unglamoruous as fashion can get, and that’s good enough for me. The Cash Advance Tee is available $22.95 in sizes S-XL printed on American Apparel in a limited run of 50 tees.

911 Tee
911 Tee

Nope don’t go there, this isn’t another t-shirt commemorating the terrorist attack, or at least I don’t think so. Here’s what Ignoble have to say “Smoking, drinking, competing… the fundamentals of self-destruction and arguably the very basis of western living. Just supply your own high speed ambulance ride and some intense defibrillation and it’s a complete package.” It’s the other ’911′, like the Brits ’999′, call them up and emergency services might be on the way, then again they might not. What I’ve wondered for a while is how come historically the police in America get public funding but healthcare doesn’t? Now that would be total anarchy. How many are going to pay to be beaten up and wrongfully arrested? Anyway… get the 911 Tee for $22.95 in sizes S-XL printed on American Apparel in a limited run of 50 tees.

Who knows, Ignoble might just be the diamond in the rough, work it out for yourself at www.whybecommon.com.

Adeline – Tees by Green Day

Adeline Street is the punk inspired clothing collection produced by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and his wife Adrienne. Adeline Street began as a spin off from a record label offering up a fine selection of promo t-shirts but they sold so many that now the clothing line has taken off whilst the record label went under. Billie describes their t-shirt range as “basic rock and roll streetwear”, taking influence from the early punk stylings of classic punk rockers like The Clash to more avant-garde bands of the time such as Devo. Before you get too excited Billie and his wife haven’t physically designed these tees, they say their input is more of a “fashion philosophy” but what the heck, they’re all still very cool whoever they found to create them. Billie and his wife went through the draft designs telling the designers what sucked and what rocked and voila Adeline Street’s t-shirt collection was born.

In this interview Billie is rather vague when it comes to their ethical policy, I heard the mention of sustainable clothing but that was quickly followed by the phrase “baby steps” which essentially means their dragging their feet. I mean if you were a worldwide famous rock star I’m sure you’d pull your thumb out, still as he says, it’s on the cards :/

He also vaguely mentions indie retailers selling their wares which was again a little wishy washy on the detail, still luckily I’ve managed to track down their tees on sale at GrindStore.com. Massive reductions if you’re after any!
