Less Than Positive are a brand new (they sold their first tee on 9/2/11) Singapore-based label after my own he(art), their blurb reads “Incorporating designs that are laced with a tinge of cynicism and subversion, Less Than Positive takes potshots at things common and familiar.” It’s nice to find a fellow ‘pot-shooter’, it’s something I aim to do with my own art. It’s also nice to see a subversive political edge finally breaching the outer security perimeter of a generally decorative market that needs to beef up its agenda in these angry times of recession and depression. All the tees feature photo-montage designs, clean cut and generously printed with a penchant for black and white, and mainly black heh. Pre-order any of these troublemaking tees for SGD$32 each which works out at about $25/£15 each…

No need for a sixth sense this time round, just take a look around you. Then again it’s all relative, what does a guy like Stephen W. Hawking think of the rest of us with an IQ of 160 rolling around that mind. Then again the actress Sharon Stone has an I.Q of 154 so perhaps most of us are idiots after all. Pre-order in black in sizes S-XL.

Definitely my fave of the collection, almost up there with this South Park episode. Kim Jong-illin’ with his crew. Nice reference to that one hit wonder and saviour of Africa by Sir Bob. Pre-order in white in sizes S-XL.

4th Amendment Wear offers Americans something that the rest of us would surely love to have, an inalienable right to privacy under the U.S Bill of Rights “which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures”. If you’ve ever travelled to or across the USA by plane you’ll be well aware of the ridiculously intrusive search policy of American airport security. Many travellers in Britain have complained about the fact that they have to remove their shoes and socks to even get through the gate. Well things are getting worse, with the introduction of full body TSA X-ray scanners that see everything, not just the items that maybe concealed in your clothing, but your body too, and I mean all of it, down to the contents of your underwear.

Personally speaking, I think anyone prepared to put up with this in order to get to the States is in actuality agreeing to leave their human rights at the border. There are few if any journeys worth forsaking one’s human rights just for the chance to travel. When you consider all the cancellations, air fares and taxes, minuscule seating arrangements, surly staff and invasion of personal privacy, I wonder how long this situation can continue?

4th Amendment Wear is taking a stand, their metallic ink-printed tees and underwear highlight the plight of air travellers the world over, as they breach the American border. The prices are a little steep, but the process is pricey and the concept is so worthwhile, especially when you consider that airport security applies the same measures to your kids. Of course, this is all meant to be part of a peaceful process, highlighting the imbalance in the rights of travellers versus corporate and governmental agenda. “Most TSA employees are extremely professional, so these clothes are meant to again provoke debate rather than be read as a message aimed at specific employees who are just doing their jobs.”

You can see from the pics just how well this tee shows up under an airport X-ray. You can buy the shirt in white in sizes S-XXL for $45 each.

Negrete is a highly subversive London based t-shirt label with a strong street art feel that plunders popular culture and urban myth with great aplomb. Started by a group of well travelled students of culture with a knack for powerful conceptual thinking, I love their tag line “product of a wasted youth”. Although saying that their tees do appeal to a wide range of ages, as long as you live your life with a pinch of cynicism and truth. There’s a powerful street art ethic that pervades throughout their large collection, which includes a new organic range; their Spring/Summer range, a discounted range and a few stragglers from the last season. I really like the way Negrete has done things over at www.negrete.co.uk. For a start they’ve taken the time and trouble to create a “back story” for each and every tee, many of which are both insightful and rather amusing in parts. Their concepts are powerful, leaning to the left field, they deal with all kinds of controversies and slices of subculture. What’s more, for the main part, their graphic skills back up the plan to the hilt, producing some high impact t-shirt designs that really make an impression.

The majority of their tees are home-grown, although there are a few impressive collaborations including art maverick Garry Milne and photographer Lex Kembery. It’s almost impossible to describe the house style over at Negrete, mainly because there isn’t one, I’d say it’s more about the message than prettifying the wardrobe. If you want to make a stand against anything, display a savvy cynicism for the state of mankind, or share a pithy savoir faire for underground pop culture, they’re your boys. All printed on 100% cotton tees in rich clean colours the organic range are going for £28 in sizes M-XL, the Spring/Summer tees are £25 each (S-XL), and the rest range between just a tenner and £12.50.

Negrete are one of those labels that’s managed to catch the Zeitgeist of Britain right now, students smashed up Tory HQ yesterday, with massive job cuts on the horizon it won’t be long before the rest of us join in. I can’t help being reminded of a famous quote from the movie Network “I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore”. If you don’t fancy getting into a round of fisticuffs then one of Negrete’s t-shirts is definitely the next best thing.

Love Sprung Tee

An awesome organic shirt, it’s a collaborative work with artist Garry Milne that takes inspiration from the Baz Luhrmann reinterpretation of Romeo and Juliet. I had to include some detail shots for this one, beautifully conceived, beautifully drawn. £28 in M-L sizes.

Drugs Tee

Drugs are bad m’kay? The thing about drugs is that everything older druggies tell you when you’re in those “experimental” years is absolutely true. I remember a hippie chick telling me how resin gives you constipation, a few years later on the toilet I tipped my invisible hat to the girl. Still, toilet-based nostalgia asides, this is one awesome design, if you look carefully you’ll see a few immortal words by Sean Coombs – which according to Negrete were probably ghost written, lol. Only £12.50 in sizes S-XXL. What a bleedin’ bargain!

Sick Rick Tee

A jaded tribute to Ricky D aka Slick Rick, a British born rapper who made it in the Bronx in the Golden Age of Hip Hop. Everything went downhill from there, if you want to know more read this! It’s a sad state of affairs, but as far as t-shirts go, it’s a cracker!

New Yorker Tee

I have to admit this is probably the classiest t-shirt on the block, featuring a rather sublime quote from O’ Blue Eyes himself and stunning photography by the legendary Lex Kembery. It’s probably what I’d wear to a business meeting (if I ever needed to do that), my kind of formal. Available in white in sizes M-XL for £28 each.

There are supposed to be 100 styles over there, I can see around 30 but let’s not nitpick – see them all at www.negrete.co.uk and check out their blog too.

Non, je ne regrette rien…

Wowzers, it’s been a while since I’ve really liked a Springleap t-shirt contest winner and damn what a turn up for the books, it’s half way to Fairey Land (as in Shepard). Red and black is always a stonking colour combo as far as I’m concerned, it’s everything nasty and evil you could hope for. The Illuminati Propaganda Tee has earned Suburbanhijinx aka James Campbell a whopping $1000 in their massive rollover competition, it’s no surprise either considering it’s his 4th win at the site, I think I’ve even reviewed on those winning designs way back when.

Illuminati Propaganda Tee

The Illuminati Propaganda design received a final vote of 4.80 which I swear is massive for Springleap, be prepared to queue lol. You can buy this beaut for R183 / $24 / €19 / £16 in all sizes for guys and girls.

Speaking of evil reincarnate, Orwellian or otherwise I must admit there’s a slight resemblance to Simon Cowell’s ‘X Factor’. Ah well it’s probably just coincidence, then again it could be a vast demonic conspiracy – who knows…

If you’re easily offended I’d move on now… as for the rest of you social delinquents I am happy to say that ‘SickMart’, the new online store by the t-shirt crazy punks 2 Sick Bastards (yes that really is their brand name) is open for highly subversive business. 2SB are graffiti artists, screen printers, t-shirt designers and all round trouble makers and I feel somewhat relieved that at last someone has the Cahunas to knock out some quasi-intelligent smut rather than the inanely offensive crap from sites like T-Shirt Hell… These guys roll around in the gutter press like pigs in clover and I love it. They’ve been getting quite a bit of attention lately, and yes, some of it is even positive :p

They will be releasing 2 new limited edition T-shirt prints every 2 weeks in the lead up to Xmas. They’ve kick off with ‘Petrol Bombed’ and ‘Eazy Tiger’ which are available now at a ‘special’ pre-order price. All new designs are available exclusively at ‘SickMart’ in limited runs of 50 pieces each. All their tees are screen printed and available for guys at a whopping R.R.P of £29.99 each and £24.99 for the girls (although you can pay with other currencies too) – however there is a sale on so at least one of their best tees Disgraceland is available at £19.99 right now. If you’re sick of the B.S and love a anti-media showdown you’ve come to the right place!

If you’re already familiar with this edgy Brit label then you’re in good company. Check out this documentary of The Prodigy’s latest tour and you just might see Liam sporting one of their best-sellers, their Disco t-shirt.

I always feel right at home, culturally speaking, when I visit their site, everything from their products to the web design to their constantly updated left field blog shimmer with a slightly tongue-in-cheek British fervour for the hey days of punk. Their style spills right out onto their highly flamboyant illustrated t-shirt prints which are all highly recognisable as unique yet strangely familiar iconic pieces that make up their collection. Their ideas are their tour de force, some perhaps more obvious than others, but in a good way, in the way you might think ‘damn, I could have thought of that’ except you know you didn’t, and if you ever did, you know you’d never got around to creating them, because if you had I’d most likely be writing about your label right now :p

Their reputation has spread far and wide into the world of independent fashion retailing with 17 online stockists and what I guess must be another hundred or more stores selling their unique wares around the world. So if you like what you see then there’s no excuses when it comes to tracking down any of their infectiously irrational tees, hoodies and accessories (if you don’t order direct), besides which they have a handy mailing list so you can keep up to date with all their latest offerings no matter what corner of the world you may reside. So without further a due, rip a few holes in your best pair of jeans, stick a safety pin through your nose, kick the TV Screen, deface any image of royalty you may have lying around and get ready to enter the minds of Disturbia.

This phenomenal tee available for men and women simply entitled ‘I Want Out’ commemorates or rather mourns the death of The American Dream. This superbly detailed illustration rifles through the draws of the slowly dying inner sanctum of perhaps the last of the world’s super powers. Sure there’s China, but simply piling up the gold, coal and nukes isn’t going to help them influence the planet the way that the USA have over the last century or so. In fact it’s more the ploy of a survivalist stocking up their bunker before the ‘big one’ – it might be war, weather, a global food or fuel shortage, who knows but their every increasing economic might is definitely not a ploy for political influence as far as China are concerned. America bailed out Europe during WW2, they’ve flown to space for the hell of it, they’ve farmed the greatest generation of obese burger loving human beings since time began, in essence they’ve been the movers and shakers in almost every major political decision since modern democracy began. But I’m afraid it may all be over for ‘Western Civilisation’ as we know it. For a start, what the hell is the West anyway? The Middle East have almost all of the remaining oil bar Israel, China has more reserves of just about every commodity going and Obama has, in the meantime, had to put a hold on some of his more loftier dreams once he’d confronted the frightening truth of ‘everyday people’ at a local Denny’s. Perhaps Obama can soothe a few furrowed brows in the major oil producing countries in the world, but if the USA doesn’t scale down their consumption soon it won’t mean diddly-squat. I read recently that if they drilled every drop of oil in Alaska, not only will it destroy their last untouched wilderness, but the oil supply will last them less than a year. With no real public transport system, an enormous amount of workers in their failing automobile industry, and a never ending demand for more and more fuel I guess Obama will be ending his term on a horse and cart by the looks of things. Still if the USA falls we all fall, like dominoes the whole Western economy will topple and all of us will be asking for handouts from China – who already realise that commodities are worth more than cash. Cash is just paper, nope actually its just a string of numbers on a server, powered by electricity, which in turn is supplied by a power station that most likely runs on gas or coal. We’re all stuffed, yes, I want out too. Get this amazing tee for £19.99 before the world finally gives up its last breath and we all shuffle out of the way for apes, cockroaches, rats, or any other creature that cottons on to the fact that we have absolutely no idea how to manage a planet.

Keep Buying is available for men (bunout/royal) and women (burnout/pink) at £19.99. Reminiscent of the British government’s hectoring style for slapping the crown jewels over any directive, order, public sign or institution they care to in order to frighten the serfdom (that is our population) in to full and compliant submission. We the British people have lost our nerve over the years, this country feels more and more like a prison every day, the last decade of the former socialist party Labour (which due to Tony Blair‘s meddling was temporarily revamped as New Labour) has passed more mean spirited and petty laws than all their predecessors since the war. I grew up in the 1970′s, I saw punks as a child, I saw riots on TV, I saw unions down tools, I saw rebellion. Then Margaret Thatcher took over and all anyone wanted was a house of their own, money in the bank, two holidays a year and shares in every former publicly owned utility and service on offer. Instead we got Mcjobs which were eventually farmed out to India and Poland, mobile phones, a weak economy, we lost all our manufacturing skills, every industry has just about collapsed and now even the cathedral-like shopping malls are struggling to compete with online bargains. Some 20 years ago I made a prediction to a few bemused, stoned, and rather disinterested friends that within our lifetime we’d witness Britain go from a first to third world country. I’ve stuck to my guns and taken little pleasure in my strange knack for second guessing the future, especially as most of it is indeed rather depressing. We can’t buy ourselves out of a recession, we can’t run the economy on a nation of shop keepers, they’re all dead and have been replaced by the vast and autonomous Tesco supermarket chain anyway. What we have is very little, at least we used to have agriculture, food we could grow and eat, now all we have is a last minute panic to grow a few veg at the local allotments. We used to have a vast shipping industry, now we have cheap ferries to France and a Chunnel that will most likely remain in debt, especially once the cracks start to show. It’s as if the whole country was redesigned by a local town planner with a fixation for parking meters and pedestrianised high streets but no idea what to do with all the rubbish, or how the public are supposed to travel, work, eat, live. So, what do we do? We do exactly what the rest of the world does, we keep on keeping on. Digging ourselves into an almighty debt unheard of in all of history, and we spend it on junk that we don’t need to take our minds of the very same fact, we are broke and one day the credit will run out. In the meantime you may as well break the trend and at least spend your hard earned cash on something worthwhile like this t-shirt which at least will remind you and everyone you meet of the impending doom that all capitalist states and countries around the world are facing. A t-shirt with a profound message to say the least.

Christian Bale, now there’s a man on a mission, a screwed up mission of course, but in a sick and twisted way you have to admire his gall. He takes no **** from anyone even if he does give it out every chance he has. The Bateman tee essentially deals with the character he plays in the film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis‘ American Psycho. What’s more Bateman specifically references his glum and dour appearances as The Dark Knight aka Batman, but with a great angle i.e using the original logo which is more famously associated with the outrageously camp TV series starring Adam West (who must be one of the most surreal personalities who ever walked the earth). Available for men and women, this tee really made me laugh, in fact almost anything to do with Bale does, but especially regarding American Psycho. The first time I saw Bale act was as a rather spoilt brat in Empire of the Sun, the next time he appeared on the screen was as Patrick Bateman. I don’t know what happened to the guy in between those two films, apart from growing about 13 years older, but it must have been bad. Sure he’s an actor, so he learned to mimic an American accent, sure he was playing a psycho obsessed with terrible 80s mainstream pop and murdering everyone he met, but it was more than that. Bale had actually become Bateman, he still is, now. OK so he hasn’t actually murdered anyone in real life (as far as I know) but he looks as if he’s on the verge of it. I haven’t heard him speak with a real British accent in years, he looks almost psychotic and guessing by his off set rants he is and now he’s getting all the plum jobs in La La Land. It makes me wonder if he’s secretly threatened any potential competitor with a grisly death by kitchen knife to the beat of a Genesis or Huey Lewis and the News track? Who knows, perhaps this t-shirt is as close to the truth as any of us mere mortals will ever get available for men and women in white for £19.99.

I love A Clockwork Orange, the Anthony Burgess novel and the Stanley Kubrick film, which is a rare thing, usually one format or the other screws it up, but not this time. This t-shirt, Horrorshow, picks up on one of a plethora of strange quirks and sayings that Burgess’s writing induces into the narrative. A weird hybrid of English, Russian and gobbledegook which form the nadsat language, in essence heightening an already extremely disturbing yet prophetic story. I won’t go into it here if you’re not au fait with the script, but if you’re not you’re a gloopy nazz. So how close was Burgess to predicting the future? Well we might not drink amphetamine-laden moloko, but drugs are bigger than ever, almost everyone in the 21st century has had some brush with illicit substances even to simply refuse them or just watch a friend or two turn to mush on a pill or some powder or a few doobies. Besides how many people honestly think that corporations want to limit their toxic offerings to booze, fags and energy drinks anyhow? If they could they’d push the lot, before long there’d be a vast, organised and profitable drug empire on a new and unimaginable scale. The underworld would lose their power, the drug scene would lose its rebellious cachet and the police forces of the world would be able to breathe a collective sigh of relief as they take a deep lug on their state approved hashettes. What’s closest to the truth about Burgess’ dystopian vision is violence, violence breeds violence and within just a few generations the gap has widened so far that those with wrinkles on their skin are more worried about getting plastic surgery and their teeth bleached than the rising numbers of violent crimes. Pupils stab teachers now, in the USA they shoot them, I never liked school but I can’t imagine anyone I knew back then, however dispossessed, firing a few shots in the library and the canteen for the hell of it. It’s all down to expectation as far as I am concerned, capitalism runs on greed or rather the promise of riches for those who take the risks. It happens in the stock market, it happens in the ghetto, destroy or be destroyed. If you aren’t the nastiest piece of work that ever walked the earth then you can bet your bottom dollar the next guy will be. We are encouraged, metaphorically, emotionally, or otherwise, to fight tooth and claw to make a few million bucks and stick two fingers up at the rat race, and that’s all down to the numbers game. The more people, the more competition, the less rewards to go round, the greater the greed, the selfishness, and eventually the frustration amongst those who lose out in the lottery of life. Failures used to kill themselves, now they like to bring down a few before they do themselves in. If the situation continues this way we won’t be able to rely on governmental institutions, the police, or the basics of ‘civilisation’ to carry us through. Nope. There’s just two alternatives, an electronically tagged, chemically balanced, nation of zombies will roam the earth, or alternatively, mass resistance, bloody revolution and war. If the base instincts of 6.25 billion human animals kicks in before the mass lobotomy the walls will come tumbling down and we can wave bye bye to our shiny gadget-laden wireless HD ready future. It’s a horrorshow, a real horrorshow. With a strong ethical background and a total commitment to the ecology and conscious consumerism in every aspect of the brand, they focus on strong conceptual design in equal measure favouring a wide spectrum of subculture arts including skater, punk, hip-hop, indie and D.I.Y. There is a really strong sense of community at their site www.410BC.com and they actively encourage participation from both their wide and loyal customer base and their eclectic band of designers and artists.

I usually ‘wing it’ when it comes to t-shirt reviews, preferring not to get to bogged down with subjective ideas from designers and focus on what I see the way I see it, sure it’s not particularly objective but it can be informative for both the label and the general t-shirt fan to see a different point of view to the traditional bog-standard interview format. However I have to admit I cheated a little when it came to the name of this particular brand, Nicole co-founder of 410BC enlightened me to its origin – “410 BC stands for the year Democracy was restored in Athens. The Athenians were at war, but they managed to restore their own institutions by fighting for what they believed in. We chose that name because it resonated with us strongly. Through the company we promote conscious consumerism and fighting for what you believe in. We believe in supporting artists, sending a positive message, only using sweatshop free and organic cotton tees and giving back to our community.” A rather admirable mantra for any fashion brand I am sure you will agree.

The company have definitely stuck to their roots from day one, unlike many brands in the market they like to stay as connected with their audience wherever possible, from their humble beginnings they have certainly picked up plenty of good habits, constantly pushing their positive message and encouraging public interaction all the way. Do have a read of their blog if you have a moment – there are some great fashion, style and other features going on there and whilst you’re at it check out their LookBook which features plenty of photos of past customers donning their marvellous clothes. Plus of course you can also meet and greet 410BC via Myspace, Flickr and see their latest vids at Youtube – oh and check out their latest contest too!

However ethics asides what’s as if not more satisfying for me is that their creative stance is as powerful as their ecological one with a cornucopia of great designs available at the store, an ecelctic range of sources and ideas for their particularly unique style, and to top it off a rather fabulous website to showcase their work. Let’s take a trip to 410BC and see exactly what makes them so special in the market today…

Unfortunately I can’t link directly to any 410BC tees as they’ve embedded the links but all of them (along with a whole range of clothing and skateboards) are available at their store. Save Me From Technology is available for men and women at $20 in sizes small to large (up to x-large for the guys), I do particularly like this design, it reminds me of quite a few New Wave album covers of the alte 1970s and early 1980s as well as a few magazines at the time such as i-D and The Face. The iconic style at the time infused the last generation of expert photo-montage artists (before the arrival of such software applications as Photoshop) and a hankering for shock value to get a message across as quickly and powerfully as possible. I feel the same kind of vibe is going on in this t-shirt, possibly the trendiest and most stylish political comment t-shirt of all time, I have to admit I am in full agreement with its sentiment. Ironically, unless you don’t mind living like a hobo you’ll have to be pretty well off to escape the clutches of overbearing political and corporate interests around the world. I’ve always wanted to live a more basic lifestyle without the need for all this technological garbage we have to wade through these days. But if you’re not connected to the hive we call society you won’t make money, and without money you’ll starve. Sure you could grow you own food and generate energy but that still takes an enormous amount of time, money and land to be productive enough to live a trouble-free life. Take it from me, the world is doomed, at least we can watch a few videos-on-demand whilst we wait.

This rather fab t-shirt seems to be the best seller right now and I can understand why! It’s pretty damn fine as tees go, again just $20 and available for men and women, the image features an enormous pair of lips rising on the crest of a wave on the verge of engulfing a ship (looks more like a boat) crossing its path. Based on the old WW2 propaganda Loose Lips Save Ships, some other favourites at the time were ‘Walls Have Ears’ and ‘If You Speak German I Will Shoot You’ – okay okay the last one I made up but still it makes you think how paranoid must it have been back then. Everyone suspicious of everyone, democracies declaring totalitarian control over their own people in the name of the war effort, a lack of resources, restricted freedom, oh just a minute, I’m wrong, it never did change!

I’ve just been watching a documentary on 9/11 on Controversial TV here in the UK and that made a mockery of just about every mainstream coverage of the time, don’t worry I know you’re probably sick of hearing about how military rather than commercial planes crashed into the towers and that the hole in the Pentagon was too small for an airliner, besides no one wants to rock the boat these days (let alone sink ships) – after all where’s the profit in that? If I do make millions one day for some inexplicable reason and manage to buy my own island I hopefully will be able to re-engage in the art of free speech. Oh if you fancy escaping the oncoming fascist dictatorship of the so-called Western Democracy – do let me know and I’ll reserve a mud hut for you as soon as poss :/

“Everywhere the winged horse struck his hoof to the earth, an inspiring spring burst forth” – on a lighter note here’s 410BC’s Pegasus tee available for both sexes and rather sweet all in all. A perfect representation of freedom if ever there was one,. I have a vested interest in seeing horses fly. Essentially a clumsy oaf of an old nag trod on my toes as a kid and I’ve never really got on with them since, I know, I know, they’re beautiful creatures, but I’m just not one of those doggy horsey type of people. Still, flying horses, that would be nice.

Although you’d need to carry an umbrella wherever you roamed as more than likely a steamy pile of manure would surely be heading your way sooner or later. This rather fine illustrated tee harks back to a mythology that’s most in keeping with the brand name 410BC, something of a historical venture rather than a contemporary discourse I like the creative connections summoned up by this image. The fountain Hippocrene, on the Muses’ Mount Helicon, was opened by a kick from his hoof. Hence, he has often been associated with the arts, especially poetry. Very light and airy this tee provides relief from the pseudo-political rantings from obsessive reviewers like myself. Great for the summer, even if you’re not trekking around Greece. Available for men and women for $25.

I love skulls, I think that most graffiti artists do, perhaps it’s to do with mortality and creation and the juxtaposition of both and the irony that if you’re very lucky, and I mean lottery winning lucky, your creations may just out live you by years, decades, centuries even, but you’d better be good, the best, the best there ever was. Still getting back to the point, death and beauty, have you noticed how many freaks, the sort that love to Botox every spare mm of their body have taken over everything from the catwalk to the movie screen to the TV? Sure you have, you’re just used to it, I know. But now and again one of those media types doesn’t quite manage to get their injections and all hell’s let loose, their face literally melts all over the screen and the paparazzi are on to them like flies on a dog turd. I am a man (well what a surprise) and I hate crap like Sex In The City, The Devil Wears Prada, all that gumph (wow really I’d have never guessed?), women can call me a party pooper (usually much worse), but every time I see someone glorifying falseness like it’s some kind of religion I want to be sick.

Don’t spend all your money on magazines that tell you you’re old and fat or young and fat, or young and ugly, or old, fat, ugly and badly dressed. At least read a magazine (or even a book – does anyone do that these days?) that makes you feel stupid, and then learn the junk you didn’t know and then spend your time at dinner parties slating that writer and proving that all their writing is mere conjecture, and get real respect, because the mind is a beautiful thing. I am sure there are some guys out there that think the mind is sexy, that intelligence is beautiful, that wit is gorgeous, that creativity is the best thing since size zero – I mean am I the only one? Vogue and every other merchant of physical degradation out there is designed to sell overpriced rubbish to insecure women addicted to shopping.

Even men have started doing it, designer clothes, designer fragrances, designer hair, designer underpants and everything that fills it (or not) – people who are happy with who they are infuriate the couture fashion industry. If people don’t feel bad about themselves then no one buys magazines like Vogue and that means no advertising and that means the writers and editors will have to live like the rest of us – which is in essence how normality should work. Still I’d better get off my soap box now – before someone from the fashionista brigade hunts me down with a gold sequinned AK47 ;) Dead Vogue – a classic at $20 for men and women…

No one likes to be naked in public, well except exhibitionists and nudists, and especially not on such an auspicious occasion as the first inauguration of a black president. So if you’re stuck with a heap of cheesy Obama t-shirts in your wardrobe and are desperately looking for something that stands out for this special event you had better hurry up and get yours too!

This top selection of t-shirts aren’t your usual run-of-the-mill “Change” tees, these are definitely something with a little extra oomph and when it comes to political street wear we all know how important it is not to blend in with the crowd, besides the fact that everyone knows you did the right thing at the right time, you stay ahead of the crowd in style and take that credibility all the way to the kudos bank ;)

So without further a due here are some top Obama tees for that big week and you’d better rush it’s coming real soon (now lol)! T-shirts to celebrate seven days that will change USA history and you won’t be embarrassed to wear them once it’s over either!

A portrait of Barack Obama, rendered in the words of his “A More Perfect Union” speech in Philadelphia by artist John Sokol. Sokol, a nationally renowned artist, has been doing word portraits of writers for over 30 years. The Obama portrait is the first politician that Sokol has ever drawn in their own words. Available in men’s shirts XS to XXXL, women’s fitted shirts XS to XXL.
Obama T-Shirt (unofficial) by OBEY at Moeshwag

Shepard Fairey, the creator of Obey, has requested that Moeshwag place a disclaimer on their site saying that he’s an Obama supporter and approves of the shirt… but it was not designed by him. Also, he requests a click thru to obey giant to see his work. However I can’t seem to find an official OBEY Obama t-shirt like this anywhere but here’s a real OBEY Giant Obama tee that rocks!

I mean you can’t get more inaugurated that this! Once again Shepard Fairey out does himself. This is a classic design!

Now here’s a funny one for you if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by the whole week and want to show the world you still have a sense of humour.

Prosper Obama T-shirt by Paul Baines

Yes a little self-publicity, but why not it’s selling well so I know someone out there likes it? Okay it’s a little Trekkie for some people’s tastes but it makes me laugh (still).

Now for another “Wordy” Obama tee, this one’s at Skreened.com and incorporates the Oath of Office, using typography (again) to create the image. Is this a new craze?

Barack Obama Oath of Office T-Shirt at Skreened.com by Irregularwear

Under New Management @ Print Liberation

This one’s pretty cool too, and if you’re looking for a President Obama tee that doesn’t actually have his face plastered all over it, this is probably your best bet.

History Made T-Shirt at Zazzle by VoteObama

Yep another typography classic, what’s up with me today? I don’t know, it just works doesn’t it? Great colours, bold text, superb concept all round ;)

Before I get any complaints yes I’ve left this late but was nagged by a number of fans to mark the occassion. I could say it’s because I’m British, or have just reopened the blog, but all in all I have no excuses, call it a post for posterity? Still there’s no reason not to buy an of these after the inauguration – after all Obama is going to be around for at least a term (maybe another if we’re lucky!). :D

To celebrate this momentous and historical event the groovy people at Ban-Tshirts.com have produced four new Obama related tees for your delectation. Now as you know I’m not too hot for slogan t-shirts, but I must admit that their tee entitled ‘The Day We Changed America‘ has the most succinct message I’ve seen in a long while. Who knows perhaps Obama will even change the world. Still calm down everyone, the guy has a lot to do and a whole heap of problems to deal with, the world economy, The Middle East, The Russians, the list is endless, but have patience and a little hope and who knows we may all look back on this time as the most important decision in a century.

As For TDWCA, essentially it’s a date, and for many a true antidote to the constant slogan tee reminders of the 9/11 tragedy, the last date that many across the world will remember for many decades to come, it’s wonderful to be able to direct our attention hopes to a new one and finally look towards the future!

As Ban T-Shirts put it “We will look back and remember this day as the beginning of a new chapter in American history.” I couldn’t say it better myself, well done America, you made the right choice, I know if the rest of the world were allowed to vote in the US elections it would have been an even greater landslide, but it’s happened nonetheless, the first black President of America. I stayed up all night watching the elections on CNN over here in the UK, and it was one of the most moving events I’ve witnessed in a long time. For me, seeing Jesse Jackson with tears in his eyes said it all.

Here are the other Obama tees from Ban-Tshirts celebrating the momentous occasion:-
