Anti-Eco, despite the name, take the environment very seriously, all their tees are certified 100% organic and printed with water-based inks, their message is always ecological, and the subject for each and every t-shirt questions Man’s relationship with nature and the Earth. Yet they’ve still managed to hold on to their sense of humour, and in fact some of their shirts border on the hilarious. Anti-Eco is based in New York, they hand screen print every t-shirt there and ship around the world (free shipping to the US, Canada and Europe!), they do a nice sideline in Tote bags too, but we’ll stick with the tees. A percentage of each Anti-Eco item purchased is donated to the clean-up and preservation of wildlife in the gulf oil spill. and they update customers on how every dime is spent too.

I’d have to criticize Anti-Eco on their price structure, sure they handle the shipping and everything is hand made but $52 is way too step for a t-shirt, organic or not. Still, there’s always hope the guys will hold a sale in the near future? (Hint). If you’re sick and tired of the same well-meaning, hippified “Save The Earth” tees on offer just about everywhere these days, then you’ll probably appreciate Anti-Eco’s rather twisted sense of humour – even if you don’t appreciate the pricing!

I’m not as big a fan of the sun as I used to be, I spend more time at this screen or in the studio than out in the sun, but even I appreciate the sentiment. When people freak out about radiation they should take in to account it’s everywhere, here and in space, and there’s no getting away from it. Just try not to take your next vacation in Chernobyl… Get this tee at a whacking great $55 (ouch) in sizes XS-XL in black here.

I am a lapsed veggie, I spent a few years of my late-teens eating Quorn and Soy and didn’t touch a piece of meat till my 20s, however I hated vegetables at the time that didn’t help. When strangers started handing me pamphlets about annorexia I knew I had to turn to the dark side. Looking at my waistline it’s probably time to try again, although the smell of bacon kicks the crap out of lentil soup every time. Get this tee at a painful $55 in sizes XS-XL in white here.

For those who don’t understand how global warming can eventually lead to an ice age it’s time to go back to school. The fact is there are plenty of countries out there, including Britain, that suffer from crappy weather all year round (except for a few brief weeks of summer if we’re lucky), but the truth is if the world keeps heating up it’ll mean ocean currents like the Gulf Stream will be weakened just as it was 10,000 years ago when the temperatures across Europe dropped by 10°. Still it’s true, Global Warming does sound comfy lol. Get this tee at a recession-ignorant $55 in sizes XS-XL in moss here.

OMUNKY are a happy-go-lucky t-shirt brand offering up a unique line in super cute environmentally themed apparel, they’ve both a strong in-house graphic style and all their tees are printed on 100% Organic-cotton or Recycled-cotton and 5% of all profits go to WildAid. OMUNKY is a one man brand, everything from the design to print to completion of orders (promptly mind you) is handled by Rick Waters, a man with a passion for the environment and a savvy mind who understands exactly how the public can and do suffer from “eco fatigue”. However much you might think you care about good causes it’s fair to say that from time-to-time you’ll get a little tired of being kept “on message”, after all it may be the end of the world, but if we all slump in a heap now and get depressed about it it won’t do much good. (Actually that might help if we did – at least we’d use less oil and gas.)

Rick wants to inject a little humour back into the environmental fold, his bright and colourful graphics definitely help to keep things in perspective. After all, asides the doom and gloom, the planet’s worth saving because it’s a great place to be, even on the most selfish level that makes sense, I know we’re not masters of the universe, or even a piddling solar system, but if we were we’d realise just how much fun it is to live on a planet with such diversity of wildlife, animals, birds, and yes, even people. The Earth is still a fun place to be, even now with all the devastation we have collectively caused, there is still a massive variety of wildlife, beautiful and exciting mountains, oceans, forests, you name it, OMUNKY wants to celebrate that fact, and their enthusiasm is infectious. So next time you harp on at someone about saving the planet, wear one of these before blasting off another eco lecture, or at the very least, do it with a smile!

Spots & Shades Tee

This is the latest tee design from OMUNKY and definitely one of the best, Rick really puts himself under pressure to keep producing a new shirt concept every month, I think he’s being a little hard on himself. I’d stick to collections, and I’d definitely focus on large friendly graphic shirts like this one. It really stands out at the store, then again a giraffe wearing shades wouldn’t exactly blend in with the background wherever he was. This should be a hit with the kids too, I I was Rick I’d be looking for licensing and distribution for work like this. Superb organic tees available in a wide range of sizes for men, women and kids at a competitive of $22 each. 5% of every sale goes to WildAid.

Tiger Turmoil Tee

This is definitely my fave shirt at OMUNKY, I don’t normally succumb to cute, but this one is the bee’s knees, or in this case tiger’s nose. Almost like a still from an old Disney toon, there’s something incredibly nostalgic about the Tiger Turmoil t-shirt. Maybe it’s the subtle range of hues, or the way the tiger’s face peers out from the dark. Superb organic tees available in a wide range of sizes for men, women and kids at a competitive of $22 each. 5% of every sale goes to WildAid.

I’d love to see a lot more “comic character” shirts like these two at OMUNKY in the future, they really could catch on in a big way. Keep up to date with all the latest eco-friendly shirts at www.omunky.com!

The first two are by American Apparel – classic organic t-shirt from American Apparel is now available in the colours pomegranate (women) and cinder (men).

The second two are by Continental Clothing -light blue and light pink complete the spectrum of Continental’s GOTS certified organic cotton products.

So let’s not hear anymore (even from me) about Spreadshirt’s pitiful track record for environmental credentials, they’re probably the best major corporation in the t-shirt print on demand market for green tees right now. Good on ‘em.

As promised this is my submission to DistrictCotton.com’s Shoot Out t-shirt design competition. I’ve posted a review of DC here, and was so impressed with their stance on ethical business I thought I’d make a contribution, and this is it. The theme for the contest is “Big City” and DC are donating 10% of all profits from the winning t-shirt (as with all their tees) to a great charity, in this case Trees Not Trash.

So help me out and vote for my t-shirt design!

Hey it takes two seconds and it’ll be a great piece of PR for the blog. Okay, I should give you a little background on the design, it’s kinda self explanatory, however two things that came to mind when I was making this design. Firstly the theme of the competition is “Big City” and you can’t get much bigger than New York, and seeing as this project donates towards an environmental cause it seemed only right I take it in a greener direction, and yes I mean that literally!

Secondly as I was about to slink off to bed at 5am, TCM were playing yet another rerun of the original Charlton Heston version of The Planet of The Apes, and there before me was the striking finale (yes I will spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it… tsk tsk). CH collapses on the beach beating it with his fists as he surveys, in the distance, The Statue of Liberty up to her neck in sand. Charlton roars the words – ‘You finally really did it! You Maniacs! You blew it up…” and so on.

An alternative version of the future events that for me at least is a little palatable though.was described in a recent documentary entitled “Life After People” – where after a hundred years or so nature starts to reclaim almost every man-made structure in the world, and for a while it looks really rather beautiful. Jungles in skyscrapers, hanging trees on the bridges, birds nesting, wildcats prowling around, and it made me think (once again), that the ecology argument isn’t so much about saving the earth as saving ourselves. Life will go on with or without us, the human race and all of its greatest achievements are at stake, so we either deliberately make the cities greener now or wait a century for nature to do it for us. The only problem is that nature will eradicate us to do it; food stocks will dwindle, fertility rates will drop, you’ve heard it all before. I know, it’s the same old story from yet another p/t doom sayer, but it has to be done or there will be no more doom sayers, no more people, no more big cities, no more iconic architecture, or movies, beer, cool t-shirts, even the bloggers will die out (eventually) – although I’m sure some of the most successful have already invested in a live/work space on the Moon.

Seriously vote for me lol. I never thought I’d have to say that, from now on I’ll leave that one to Barack, (if the Clintons let him :p).
