Resist Today
Resist Today is a small & independent, artist-run company. When you buy a tee, a print, stickers, pins or any item at ResistToday.com the profit goes to the artists and not (yet another) corporation. Expect originality, quality and limited editions as the order of the day. The line-up of artists include Dave Rau; Josh Bertrand who runs Red Labor with Dave Rau, Brandon Dunlap, Eleanor Grosch of Push Me Pull You Design, Ian Keltie of IKCA, Jay Giroux and Billy Tamplin of Rejected Robot.
All of their tees are superbly screen-printed shirts and the inks “feel nice & soft” (I’m hoping this means water-based?), using slim-fitting and sweat-shop free American Apparel tees. Some of their designs are way out there in cuckoo land, which is just fine for me, it’s where I belong ;p Right now there’s a $10 Summer Sale on so if you fancy sprucing up your wardrobe with some highly original limited edition art then take a look at this lot:
Skulls and Kittens Tee

I’m sure I’ve featured this one somewhere before, if I haven’t it’s a crime, this design is awesome, kinda creepy but it hits the perfect tone of sarcasm. If you’re fearless in the face of death and love cute animals you’ll be glad to know this shirt by Brandon Dunlap is available in pink (M-L), grey (S/L), blue(L) and yellow(S-XL)! Yep everyone of them is just $10 in the sale.
Bureaucrat Tee

The faceless corporate drone gets his 15+ minutes of fame due to the highly creative mind of Josh Bertrand. Simple, powerful and highly effective design, you can get the Bureaucrat Tee for $10 in XL.
King Rhino Tee

Years ago Chris and I went to a country park in Sussex, they kept Rhinos there, one of them suddenly began to bolt towards us, it looked like it was about to charge through the fence and over the ditch. Then it stopped, and sort of whined and simpered. We picked some grass nearby, fed it, and then patted its head. I love rhinos. I also had a ghetto blaster as a teen, I painted crap all over it and took it everywhere then some sod at a party “borrowed it” like 20 years ago hah. So, King Rhino has a lot of personal connections for me lol. No seriously, love this one, it’s groovayyy. Get it as a tee (s/L/XL) or polo (S) for $10 each.
Two Guys And An Octopus Tee

Don’t ask, I have no idea what’s going on, the general idea seems to be “steam punk gone awry”, all I know is that it’s weird and that’s good for me. If you have a penchant for Victorian freakery, and want something a little more spectacular than The Elephant Man, then meet Two Guys And An Octopus – available in sizes S/M for $10.

A Nagy Toll Scoop Tee by Richard Fairhead

I don’t have much on Fairhead except that he’s a great British illustrator with a superb sense of humour. Just check out his blog to be sure. Here’s a very cool retro tee by him, with the weirdest name I’ve come across in a while, the Nagy Toll Tee :p
With 10% of the sales going straight back to the artists, Collect London offers a great opportunity to boost the creative careers of young designers. And with such a wide range of product – there is no better time to buy into great art and wear something truly cutting edge
Speaks For Itself
Itself are a t-shirt community that deals with quality rather than quantity, they only offer limited edition shirts, alongside a range of tunics and long sleeve tees, and they don’t officially have too many designers on their books – although there are plenty who’d love to be! I’d say this was a step forward, however much you might want the public to provide quality control, there will be those, shall we say ‘less-than-average’ designers with an army of online buddies to help them make headway in the popularity stakes, even if it means that the more usual vote-based t-shirt communities end up stuck with a pile of unsold tees for the next sale. To counteract the ‘art Jock’ mentality, Itself don’t even mention the prospect of voting on their homepage. it’s a savvy angle marketing-wise, I’d always push the idea of exclusivity and quality over fashion democracy every time. Still once you take a peek inside the store you realise the mechanics of the brand is definitely geared to scouting out new high-calibre talent with 590 designs in the running, from a legion of potential contributors competing for a whopping $4000 prize and of course instant fame ;)
Now, I have to admit the earlier half of the collection isn’t anything to write home about, but every label has to start somewhere, they need to be established to some degree to attract the calibre of design they require for a discerning audience, and so I’m sure we can both forgive them a quick evolution from the generic in order to provide a platform for their top picks in t-shirt design. Which fortunately is exactly how it’s worked out for Itself. There are at least half a dozen cracking designs on offer now, by names you might not recognise, but I assure you once you see their work, you will remember them.
If you want to get involved you can submit your own designs here, sign up and vote keep up with their latest offerings at Facebook and follow them at Twitter, but even if you’re adverse to social networking at least sign up as a member and get the first word on any new tees and offers in the making. What’s more send in a photo of you wearing one of their tees and get a dollar back! Time for this brand to speak for itself in the medium of great t-shirt design… read more
T-Shirt Caviar at Finroo
We all want to savour the finer things in life, no matter what you love, there’s always someone somewhere selling a better quality, rarefied alternative that you’d give your right arm (or preferably cash if you can afford it;) for the chance of owning a piece of that exclusivity. The same rule applies to the creative t-shirt industry, there are limited editions and then there are black label tees at Finroo.com. One of our favourite t-shirt community sites out there has just upped the ante (again) and have released a range of highly limited edition tees for their connoisseur fans.
Everyone has experienced t-shirt envy at some point or other in their lives, many more of us have experienced exactly the opposite, and that’s over the saturation of our favourite designs. If you hate spotting your t-shirt on passers by, if you can’t stand the fact that many labels out there hit their margins by selling your most treasured t-shirts to all and sundry, if you’d like your wardrobe to be as unique as possible without going mad on haute couture items, then here’s what Finroo can offer you.
Purple Label
Gold Label
Platinum Label
And the ultra exclusive
Black Label
Now, expect the prices to rise depending on the label, the black label tees are a whopping $94.99 each which is steep I agree, but remember, only 25 people in the world will proudly wear your favourite design. So essentially you pay for the exclusivity, if you don’t care how many dopes are wearing your favourite design then I’d try K-Mart, if you do then here are some of my favourites on offer right now, although I can’t guarantee half of these won’t be sold out by tomorrow! read more
Cynical Tees at LoveIsLame.com
Some may say that these days people aren’t as sensitive they used to be, perhaps even de-sensitised to the world around them, and who could blame them? Just about everything in life of any real value has either been dismissed or over-sentimentalised by almost every corporation after your buck or political party scrounging for your vote. So it makes a lot of sense to see labels like Love Is Lame emerging in the t-shirt scene, offering a subtly humorous yet jaded view on the world we live in these days. As the old saying goes ‘no one likes a smart ass’ but the fact is mealy the mouthed guy or girl standing in the corner of the kitchen complaining about everything under the sun is far more likely to nab a hit comedy show than a born entertainer with nothing but smiles for an adoring public.
The truth is a vast majority of people are wise to the world these days, all those broken promises, all those lame duck ideas, all the phoney advertising claims, and overrated celebrities, you name it, someone somewhere is royally screwing it up. No worries folks, LoveIsLame.com is one step ahead of you, and offer a limited range (so far) of future classics for our cynical age. You can tell exactly where they’re heading, at least creatively, by the name of the label. I am sure a lot of people will argue with the sentiment, hey I love my GF to bits, but even I remember those days, months, years, looking for my perfect match, and I can tell you there were plenty of times I thought just the same. Sitting in the rain waiting for a train after a washout of a gig or club or party, sneering at the loved up couple snogging on the other end of the bench, whispering sweet incomprehensible nothings, calling each other by ridiculous nicknames, oblivious to the misery around them. Of course, eventually I found a woman who couldn’t stand those kind of people either. Game, set and match.
But enough about my love life lol, let’s check out this niche t-shirt niche, via the expert offerings of LIL – not quite offensive, jaded humour t-shirts, for a cynical world… read more
Plastic Fantastic Kitsch-Nitsch
We all want to be individual, and there is plenty of limited edition gear available out there in the world of fashion, but what about one-offs? Ever bought a one-off, one of a kind, limited edition of one t-shirt? Would you like to? Well now you have a chance to be the proud owner of a truly, totally and completely unique t-shirt from Kitsch-Nitsch. Solely managed by the graphic design duo Aka Neon & MNCHRM from their base in Slovenia (guessing by the shipping rates), these guys thrive at illustration, decoration, product design and scenography. However they specialise in a wide range of cut-out vinyl sets, that can be applied to walls, cars, or as they begun to experiment with recently, ready made products such as bags or clothes.
The Kitsch-Nitsch ideology sees design as “temporary and not timeless, revolution is the only way to make a change and constant reinvention and searching for the latest craze are the only things worth living for.” Kitsch-Nitsch offers uniquely limited edition tees designed on computers and made by hand. If you’re into your t-shirts but want something that no one else is wearing in the world, this might be your best bet! They offer world-wide shipping at ‚Ǩ5 for Slovenia, ‚Ǩ10 for Europe and ‚Ǩ20 for the rest of the planet. The site looks like a promo for a new indie band that music journos slaver after each year to make up their column inches for cynical new wave indie aficionados that have heard it all before. Great layout, stunning photos, mad designs, insane concept, it might just work out big time for these two renegades of the fashion world. Take a look at what’s still available to buy right now… read more
