LadyUmbrella – La Segunda Coleccion
It’s been quite a while since our first review of LadyUmbrella, a Dublin based t-shirt label for women fuelled by the seemingly unbound talents of Spanish illustrator Elena Montes Casado. It goes without saying that the feature went down a storm (especially with our female readers), the people at LadyUmbrella have described it as one of the best they’ve ever received, and with good reason, great products make a great review. Let’s hope we can do justice with their second collection otherwise known as “La Segunda Coleccion”.
The team at LU were kind enough to let us have a sneak peek at a few tees from the new collection, all of which will be available from the 13th of September, just a couple of days from now! As always all the shirts are cut and sewn to their exacting standards. There’s a tank top on offer titled “Mona LadyUmbrella” plus two further designs “LadyUmbrella and the Merry Go Round” and “LadyUmbrella and the Umbrella Tree” which are printed on their highly popular slinky style t-shirt, that features a swooped neck and longer sleeves. All the t-shirts at LU are 140grsm 100% pure combed cotton and printed with pigment print which is soft to touch, long lasting and shows off the details in the designs really well.
Another big improvement is a wider variety of larger sizes available including XL and XXL, this applies to the new collection plus three old favourites “LadyUmbrella is Away with the Birds”, “LadyUmbrella is Friends with Sir David” and “LadyUmbrella and the Wise Owl”. Plus the new collection features two woven tags instead of one, a neck tag and an additional blue tag on the front seam featuring their (now famous) umbrella logo. All of the designs come with their own unique hang tag which tells the t-shirts tale and is also signed, dated and number by our designer Elena to make each shirt unique to the buyer. This should be a real treat for the more discerning ladies out there seeking something affordable yet stylish for the Fall/Autumn season. Here are some preview shots to tide you over until the 13th.

Al I can say is that LadyUmbrella’s uniquely surreal and illustrative tees have, do and will go down a storm, with over 14,000 combined fans and followers on their Facebook and Twitter accounts and customers worldwide the latest collection of tees is bound to sell out fast. Bookmark their website at www.ladyumbrella.com to be sure you get yours!

The Sun Always Shines on LadyUmbrella
For those of the female persuasion we have a real treat for you, a feature on LadyUmbrella, an art t-shirt company based in Ireland, and fuelled by the creative powerhouse that is the Spanish designer Elena Montes Casado. In fact it was her experience of arriving in rainy Dublin directly from the hot and spicy climate of her home in Madrid that prompted her to think of the name. “I saw lots of people with umbrellas and couldn’t really see peoples faces and from that I got the idea…”. Casado’s love of animals also shows through in a lot of her work, birds and beasts of all kinds appear in her art, in her own words “I can’t imagine her talking to human beings so instead she has lots of feathered friends (for now).”
LadyUmbrella is an immediately recognisable character for one very obvious reason, she has an umbrella for a head, don’t laugh, it’s poetic or symbolic or something…
I love the style, it reminds me of animation I used to watch growing up as a kid in Britain, it was so gentle and delicate then, a world away from the slick CGI of nowadays. Dreamy, that’s the word, something along the lines of Crystal Tipps meets the original Moomins.
LU launched their online t-shirt store on the 20th of January 2010 and have created a lovely site and store, and of course collection. The whole feel of the brand is light, slightly dreamy and very delicate, something rare in the world of t-shirt art. So… if you’re ready to meet LadyUmbrella read on! read more
