King Top Takeaway
King Top Takeaway is the brainchild of former Adidas intern Hanan Qattan, a young British designer with a flair for the immediate and eyecatching graphic artwork. Bright, fresh graphic tees that are a little macabre at times (Emo’s need tees too :p), and the high quality and generous print sizes really do add impact. Hanan has been in business for 6 months now, catering mainly for the female market she has an avid following, especially via the social networks, and looks set to be big for the future. Just in case you haven’t guessed, the name is of course inspired by the bold and vibrant graphic styles of the Far East. Prices start at just £10 for tees and £15 for premium vees, available in a range of sizes and cuts for guys and girls.
Ribcage Vee
This is one of a few premium vees available for girls at £15 each. A lovely anatomical tee for all you who believe that beauty isn’t skin deep :D Sizes
Put A Bow On It Tee
My GF Chris adores this shirt – very sweet, very subtle, perfect for a girly night out. And what a bargain! Just £10 in sizes XS-M.
Jelly Fishy Tee
One of a few aquatic themed tees, a really generous print and ever so cleanly executed. £15 XS-M.
Pulling Teeth Tee
Ouch! This is kinda’ hardcore, not my taste but I can imagine it’s big with Saw movie fans and cannibals lol. Joking asides, a great design, perfect for a visit to the dentist. Get it for guys and girls in a range of sizes at £10 each.
Fox Trap Tee
Fox Trap Tee
This one’s for the girls, well one girl anyway. There’s just one Fox Trap Tee left at Concrete Rocket (although if there are three sizes I’m guessing a few). It’s one of the best Concrete Rocket have ever produced and a superb girl power tee for the ladies. Turning the ‘ol Red Riding Hood fairytale on its head, the design is more reminiscent of something like Resident Evil! Love the illustration style on this one, a totally classic design. All Concrete Rocket’s tees are custom cut to a slimmer fit btw so you will look snazzy. If you’re out of luck with the girls’ fit there are always the guy’s version here. Get it for $21.90 in either style (if you can!).
3 Helmet Girls Tees at Hot Topic
My online buddy AdaPia d’Errico Mancina sent over a press release about her amazingly talented sister Camilla’s t-shirt coup. They have launched 3 fabulous Helmet Girl tees through a licensee at the major fashion store Hot Topic. I’ve featured Camilla d’Erico’s work a few times at my art blogs, she’s an incredibly talented illustrator. Here’s what she has to say about the tees.
“I truly feel that my art should be available for everyone who enjoys it. I create art out of a passion to share it with people, and my first fans and customers were actually teen and tween girls. These shirts are for them, their big sisters and even their Moms!” says Camilla. “I get so much fan mail about my Helmetgirls, so they were perfect candidates for the line. They are inspired by everything that shaped me: comics, anime and manga, and cartoons.”
Best known as just, “Camilla”, this outgoing artist, illustrator and character creator has a natural artistic versatility that allowed her to make waves in the fine art world, to create a name for herself in the comic and graphic novel industry, and to selectively disseminate her beautiful artwork commercially through merchandise, clothing and accessories.
“Camilla’s designs are gorgeous. Her manga influence is noticeable but not overpowering. There are people who instantly recognize the images as being Camilla’s, and others who immediately fell in love with them”, says Mike Mattox, CEO of licensee, All Pacific Apparel Ltd.
“Helmetgirls™ are my original characters so it has been fun to bring to them to life with bold colours in this line”, continues Camilla, “Good fit, beautiful prints with a touch of varnish, and high quality garment ensure that the final product best represents me and my art. We really focused on quality when designing and making these. I’m thrilled with the results.”
T-shirts are the new canvas for many artists, and the perfect vehicle for spreading their art. Wearable art is a term that has been coined, and many urban artists have been creating t-shirts showcasing their art. Camilla concludes, “Hot Topic’s soul is underground, cult, comic, music and pop culture, which made them the perfect retailer to launch Helmet Girls clothing.”
Snake Tee by Camilla d’Errico at Hot Topic at $22 in sizes XS to XL.
The three Helmetgirls’ designs are now in Hot Topic stores across the US, and online. With her fans alerted through various social media channels, these t-shirts are already being snapped up, quickly making the artist’s series a fan favorite.
It’s nice to see Camilla going from strength to strength!

The Sun Always Shines on LadyUmbrella
For those of the female persuasion we have a real treat for you, a feature on LadyUmbrella, an art t-shirt company based in Ireland, and fuelled by the creative powerhouse that is the Spanish designer Elena Montes Casado. In fact it was her experience of arriving in rainy Dublin directly from the hot and spicy climate of her home in Madrid that prompted her to think of the name. “I saw lots of people with umbrellas and couldn’t really see peoples faces and from that I got the idea…”. Casado’s love of animals also shows through in a lot of her work, birds and beasts of all kinds appear in her art, in her own words “I can’t imagine her talking to human beings so instead she has lots of feathered friends (for now).”
LadyUmbrella is an immediately recognisable character for one very obvious reason, she has an umbrella for a head, don’t laugh, it’s poetic or symbolic or something…
I love the style, it reminds me of animation I used to watch growing up as a kid in Britain, it was so gentle and delicate then, a world away from the slick CGI of nowadays. Dreamy, that’s the word, something along the lines of Crystal Tipps meets the original Moomins.
LU launched their online t-shirt store on the 20th of January 2010 and have created a lovely site and store, and of course collection. The whole feel of the brand is light, slightly dreamy and very delicate, something rare in the world of t-shirt art. So… if you’re ready to meet LadyUmbrella read on! read more
Freebies at Gurly Q …hmm
Erik from GurlyQ.com (hey nice name curlicue, girlyq) wanted a quick shout for their latest offer, a *free t-shirt. As I’m sure you can guess this one is for the girls, but then again who knows, there maybe a few guys out there who want to discover their feminine side via the medium of t-shirt design. Then again this could be one big dodgy con… Erik won’t come clean! I’m still awaiting his denial! read more
