Sean Bahrpart owner and designer for Xraylibra contacted me recently and something that caught my eye was this “we believe in the craft of design and screen-print“. He had me sold on that one line, and you can tell, with just 6 black and white tees it’s obvious there are big things ahead for Xraylibra! To avoid any confusion make sure you visit their Big Cartel store and not their main domain name as that doesn’t seem to be completed. Let’s hope they get their act together on the marketing front, it would be a shame to see these shirts disappear into the ether of obscurity.

El Luchador!! Tee

If you love lucha libre masked wrestling, you’ll love this tee. Actually I’m not a fan of wrestling, Mexican or otherwise, but for some reason art featuring Luchadors always rocks. Maybe I was a fighter in a past life lol.

Billy Ray Satan Tee

Sean definitely has the gift when it comes to titles, I’m sure plenty of self proclaimed bad boys out there will fight over this tee. Now all you need is the leather jacket, the chopper and the girl and you set will be complete.

Zombie Killers Tee

I am a big fan of great zombie and infection movies, but I’m fussy, I can count less than ten I really love, and it’s always bugged me that at least one zombie blockbuster hasn’t been set in the Old West. You’d think all those Hollywood players would have come up with a decent pitch by now. In the meantime you’ll have to console yourself with this cool shirt.

Luchador War Tee

The sequel to ‘El Luchador’, there are some phenomenal Marvel/D.C elements to this design, check out the robot in the background and the lovely grunge/distress effect. Let’s hope for more adventures from the masked avenger!

Kinkiking

Mad name, superb tees, in fact it’s been a long old while since I’ve stumbled upon a label that ticks all the boxes. Kinkiking has four brands under one roof, Tokyo Toxics, Celebritees, Kinkiking and Prin T Error, and they all rock. Honest guv‘. This find is all down to Twitter, if they hadn’t tracked me down there I’d probably have missed them altogether. They’re based in Barcelona and generally, design-wise at the very least, completely and utterly have their finger on the pulse. There are definitely some instant classics in their collection too, I can’t get their Bathman out of my mind, a rather disturbing sight, especially if you’re an old school comic fan. Their infectious sense of humour spreads with other memorable tees like Mr. Rubrik and Toast Rider.

Gundam Tee

If you love your Manga but want it strawberry flavoured then here is your chance. €21 each for guys (M/L/XL) and €23 for girls (M/L). Of course the sexy model isn’t included.

MECHAel Jackson Tee

Jacko is long gone, but MECHAel Jackson is on a worldwide tour courtesy of Tokyo Toxics. Available for girls in M/L €23 and guys M-XL €21.

The Bathman Tee

This is a newbie from their sub-label Celebritees and probably would’ve been one of my favourites of 2011 if it wasn’t for the print size – big is definitely better. Still, besides the titchy print, I love the concept!! If I was a Kinkiking artist I’d seriously consider launching a comic book, who knows, a movie deal might just be around the corner? Mr. Rubrik Tee

Another serious contender from the Celebritees series, love it. Available for girls in M/L €23 and guys M-XL €21.

Cold Coffee Tee

There’s nothing worse than a cold coffee, well actually there is plenty worse, but still, this is a great take on a rather annoying theme for me. Let me just take a sip of my coffee… urrggh. Get this snazzy little tee for girls in M/L €25 and guys M-XL €21.

There’s plenty more on offer including superb buttons and badges, and some mad hats, plenty of videos to keep you occupied, and they’re socially hooked up everywhere, Behance, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube. This is one organised label! Excuse the tardy posting, I’ve been slaving away high up on scaffolding painting the house whilst the Autumn sun holds out. I really meant to write something about LTD Tee‘s latest offering in the form of their Head of the Giant Robot Tee by comic book artist supremo Shane White. This latest collaboration with the Jet City Comic Show held on Saturday 25th of October at the Seattle Exhibition Center. If you’re in the area and a comic art nut then you can book tickets for the show for $8 each here.

I’ve just stumbled Shane’s site and I can’t believe I’m the first to give it a thumbs up? Welcome to the crazy world of Spanish Pop Art label Tolky Monkys. It’s a veritable Euro designer fun house over at http://www.tolkymonkys.com/ but if you ‘no habla englais’ then you should head straight to the English language version of the store at http://www.tolkymonkys.com/en/. However if you’re in Spain, or around the Med you might want to see them in the flesh as it were, you can see their sizeable list of stockists here.

The fact is that for me at the very least I needn’t worry about language barriers, good design concepts will always carry through and this is certainly true of TM, their quirky style, insane graphics and world of strange characters and situations need little explanation. As with many cult trends out there you may find that yours will literally immerse them self in the cornucopia of Tolky-esque fantasies; there are t-shirts for the lads and the girls (as well as hoodies), postcards, posters and even wallets which I’m sure they’ll all be showing off to each other before you know it.

Tolky Monky’s is one of those few labels that I can imagine becoming an animated series one day, their style is so unique and instantly memorable, if you “get it” or don’t it doesn’t really matter, visually the impact is so overwhelming that this range is sure fire bet for a future international “yoof” brand, perhaps if they get the right backing, promotion and sponsorship far more. If you want to see plenty more large images (than I can possibly show here) of their products pop on over to their Flickr stream and gaze in wonder of the madness that is TM. As for the products, expect the highest quality, printed clearly and crisply each design works its way around both front and back, as well as sides and seams of the garment, extending and extenuating the tale told Although I have to admit I must simply be too old these days because I can’t really fathom what’s going beyond the fabulous design work – ah well c’est la vie. Anyway all their highly original tees are on offer for ‚Ǩ22 each for girls and ‚Ǩ20 for the boys plus a few reduced to just ‚Ǩ15. Available in sizes small to large (not sure how large – perhaps mum and dad can get them too and embarrass the kids), and are now shipping right across Europe and the USA. Boston Tee Party @ Viva Ortegacy

My apologies to Dave Ortega of Viva Ortegacy for taking so long to get around to this, I’ve spent near enough a day tracking down links and information for another review that turned out to be rather a waste of time. The problem with receiving requests from PR agencies is they simply don’t know the industry as well as the designers they represent. to cut a long story short the site was great, professional, nice graphic designs, but they had no way of letting their readers buy their gear, well there was probably a phone number somewhere and perhaps they could take your credit card details, and they did have a few for sale in boutique in Georgia, but really, if you want a review, remember my readers are global, they need closure! Luckily Viva Ortegacy is a different story altogether, and then some.

Not only do have a shopping cart (phew) but what’s more they’re throwing a party, and it’s free, and there’s food and drink and everything you could imagine!! Okay maybe I’ve gone a little too far there, but it still sounds fun to me, although I maybe rather out of the loop here on the blustery wintry south coast of Britain. If you want to join in the fun be at The Grand, 374 Somerville Avenue, Union Square, Somerville, Boston on December 4th between 6pm and 8pm or be square!

Besides it will get you away from that damn screen, so if you’re not here, on the other side of the world then you really should join in the celebrations for Ortega’s new Tees of The Future. Now don’t ask me why they’re from the future, I’m sure Dave will have a convincing argument for you when you get there.

His latest offering is his Geoskullz Tee, which is available in both olive and brown, and for some strange reason remind me of Argyle patterns, yes you probably need to be me to see that one. read more
