Anyway, in case you’ve forgotten how superb Hotlife’s tees are since our last feature then take a peek at these beauts…
Show You No Mercy Tee
A very upfront design, in crimson, with some real nice biker and military undertones. If you’re more of a lover than a fighter get your GF one :o Sizes XS-2XL and a girls fit too.
Outta Style Tee
A superb graffiti/geek crossover tee, lovely styles going on there, that cheap LCD display is hilarious. If you’re as old school as me you probably played your Tiger Electronics handheld crap through at least one Summer in the school yard :p
Hoplife Tee
Wazzup’ Doc? Nice. Very streetsy, angry bunnies are always good for a laugh, although some pink in the eye would have been a nice evil albino touch. Available in XS-2XL (XL sold out) for just $15, but hurry it’s a reprint as the first batch sold out immediately.
Worldwide Tee
Recognizing the worldwide rep that Hotlife have gathered over the last couple of years, here’s a big, loud and proud shout out to all the fans for supporting the label. Really smart fontage too. $20 in S-2XL.
Amazing, Mike just gets better and better. See much much more here.
15% Off @ Colus
With Colus you’ve got to respect the line, they’re a smart design lovin’ label offerings tees, prints and toys with a few ground rules…
“Black and white only. No convention, crafted without trend, colour or design stunts to hide behind, this collection tries to stay in its humblest form of design where negative space is as important as the art itself.“
Launched by the S.A designer Colus Havenga, now based in San Diego, California you can definitely spot the cultural crossover style. The subject matter is described as lying betwixt morality and mortality, the mood is sombre, the colours monotone, the line gorgeous and the designs truly iconic. Something for the underground I’d say.
If you love all things Colus you’ll be very glad to know they’re offering 15% off all their products in their launch special, the code is LAUNCH15 and for a limited time only (so hurry!). If you’re brassic right now Buy Tees have also wangled a permanent discount for you lucky lucky people. Just enter the code BUYTEES10 at the checkout for a 10% discount any time you like! All currently $30 in sizes S-XL.
Even Kings Fall Tee
Nicely balanced natural abstract remonstrating the rise and fall of life, power and glory.
Live By The Sword Tee
Nicely Karmic, a little poetic justice for ya.
Stuck In The Headlights Tee
In Britain this applies to rabbits, although we’ve very little wildlife left let alone stags here – Brits do have a habit of running everything over :/ (I don’t even drive so don’t blame me!)
Antagonism Tee
“A principle, force or factor that is an active resistance, opposition, or contentiousness to oneself.” In other words you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t or is that procrastination?

Miles To Go
Greg Kerr, the guy behind Miles To Go Clothing is a multi-talented t-shirt visionary with his finger most definitely on the pulse in the tee scene. There are a couple of great interviews if you fancy learning more here and here. This guy started off selling hand printed tees in a Phoenix market, now he’s procuring designs from artists worldwide, and respected ones at that, to produce great collection after collection. Anyway, let’s move straight on to the fine collection of tees on offer at MTGC, including a bunch of great unisex discharge ink t-shirts at bargain prices!
The Invisible Man Tee
A lovely antique style toon tee available in coffee in unisex sizes XS-XL (2XL sold out) and small for girls at $24.99 each.
Medusa Tee
Amazing artwork and a superb 4 colour discharge ink print… stare and be turned to stone :0 Available S-XL at just $15 each! Also available as limited edition screen prints here.
Dulce Muerte Tee
Aka “sweet death”, another excellent design, in its final print and only S-L sizes left at $15 each.
Paradise Lost Tee
An absolutely beautiful design by Dan Mumford that takes inspiration from the 1667 poem by John Milton. It’s on its last print and only sizes XS-L are left at $15 each. It even comes with a free belt! If you like custom belts Greg Kerr runs www.milestogobelts.com as well.
Alone Poe Tee
This beauty’s by Russian designer Rob Dobi who we’ve featured a few times here at Buy Tees. This time inspired by Gothic horror writer Edgar Allan Poe’s poem Alone. Again on its last print and only sizes XS and M-XL left at just $15 each.
See more tees, hoodies, track jackets and belts at www.MilesToGoClothing.com.
Mumford Clothing
If you haven’t seen London artist Dan Mumford‘s work then you’re truly missing out, producing some of the most visceral contemporary imagery in the UK from his work space in Studio 100, a collective group of artists, illustrators, and graphic designers. His client list is as impressive including bands The Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me The Horizon, and Gallows, Mumford has also tackled major companies such as Nike and Adidas. He is best known for his cover art for “Homesick,” the largely successful album from A Day To Remember, and his extensive t-shirt work for The Black Dahlia Murder.
Check these classic Mumford art tees, all of which are available in black at $18 each, sizes range from YL-XL where available.
Sunset Tee
Crazy colours, a palette that ranges between Fauvism and street artists like OBEY, a beautifully rendered illustration that almost makes you want to frame this one and hang it up on the wall. The end is nigh :0
Dawn Tee
You’d think things would have got a little better by the morning, but no, the evil powers that be seem to have built an intergalactic highway on the rubble of a ruined Earth. These designs could really be storyboards, when is the movie out Dan?
Hope Tee
The heroes have come to save the day, although they’re tooled up and look a little fanatical to me, I’ll be hiding in a cave if anyone needs me.
VIII. Epilogue Tee
I can’t quite tell what’s going on here, but it’s just about the best naturalistic abstract tee I have ever seen. Reptiles, wood, and wheat textures, golden hues galore, amazing.
VI. Dominion Tee
A dazzling design, Dan seems to pull out all the stops with every design. If ever you meet a girl that can do this, I’d run :D
V. Priest Tee
Old goatie, hallowed be thy name, thine evil mutton chops’ bidding will be done. This is probably the sort of thing they get up to at those dodgy Bohemian Grove gatherings. So detailed it hurts.

A Time To Retreat
British ethical Indie clothing company Retreat have a few arty tees up their proverbial sleeve, some I love, some not so much, it all depends on your taste – such is the nature of art. They’ve had a ton of exposure in the men’s magazines, including Front, Nuts and Juice. Not exactly my regular reads but there has to be a big market from that kind of high street exposure. Which is why I was surprised when they contacted me for a review, let’s hope it competes with all those highly paid journalists lol. Anyway I’ve picked out some tee treats, all of which are ultra-limited editions and water-based ink print, courtesy of Retreat so sit back and indulge.
Allegoria Tee
Absolutely gorgeous, this one colour oversized print shirt really does shine with elegance. A dead classy hand drawn design, the sort of thing a Shakespearian actor would wear under that cravat. Nice title too, let’s hope the follow up is phantasmagoria, now that’d be wild. Available for £20 in black (S-L) and white (S-XL). Limited to just 30 pieces!
Geometric Landscape Tee
Halfway to Escher and back, love the craziness in this one, it’s a reprint of an old Lorenz Stöer work. Really sharp shading and a weird, young pot head reads Faust vibe to this one. Trippy! Available for £20 in black (S-L) and white (S-XL). Limited to just 30 pieces!
Craft Work Tee
Reclaiming the title from early German electronica… nice! A seriously smart piece of branding, sure it’s a logo tee (of sorts), but what a beauty! Very classy yet again, I can imagine Retreat’s clientèle are rather swanky! Over sized discharge print limited to just 50 pieces! Available for £20 in black (S-L) and white (S-XL).
For more highly limited art shirts visit www.retreatstore.com.
Eau de Mars
Hmm… the smell of Mars? If it did have an atmosphere I think it have a whiff of sulphur, but who cares this brand spanking new indie Brit label is definitely not a stinker! In fact Eau de Mars are already firing all guns in order to quickly find their place in the market, with a very slick site and store, a couple of discount codes, and top street fashion t-shirt designs by top artists, many of whom have worked in the past for cool labels like Vicious History and Honour Over Glory.
A few tees are already available already, namely their selection of artist designed (highly) limited edition shirts (200 each), there’s also a premium and classic section, however you’ll have to wait for those. Here are the discounts:
For a massive 20% discount on any limited edition tees use the code SECRETSALE at the checkout.
Take the time to click ‘like’ at their Facebook page and get an even bigger 25% discount off all their tees using the code WELOVEUBACK at the checkout.
Here are the latest tees, each comes with a free poster illustration and other freebies when you pre-order. Ships 01/03/2011 and be warned there will be no reruns for these:
Ritual 2.0 Tee
Available in both black (looks more like dark grey to me) and white editions, pre-order for £24.95 each in unisex sizes XS-L. Another classic heavy metal/tattoo style design from Craig Robson.
Undercover in Creature Town Tee
This one’s by the illustrator Helmi Himawan. Again black and white editions on offer. If u love monsters you should be in mutant hog heaven by now… pre-order for £24.95 each in unisex sizes XS-L.
For more updates on their latest tees catch a whiff of EDM at www.eaudemars.com, or via Twitter and Facebook.
Limerence
Limerence is a small indie clothing company run by Doug DeMarra. Doug offers a fascinating selection of photo montage tees and a back story to match. A 23-year-old graphic designer from good old “Amish-town” Lancaster, Pennsylvania who fled to the bright lights of the NYC to escape the stifling boredom of “horse buggies, stinky cows, and long rows of cornfields”. After gaining some experience in New York, he fled back home with a new passion for fashion design. He spends his spare time, when not designing and printing his tees, collecting old prints for his creations. He’s a familiar sight in many of the thrift shops in Pennsylvania, hunting down vintage magazines, yearbooks, and newspaper clippings dating from before 1974. For example a 1950’s issue of LIFE magazine featuring ducks migrating south, or his parent’s yearbooks, retro posters, prints, you name it – his inspiration is drawn from all kinds of retro paraphernalia. In case you’re wondering “limerence” means “a crush” – as in infatuation – nice brand name!
There are just four shirts available as of now, although Limerence has only been going a couple of months so I’m sure we can expect plenty more soon. All are available for $12 each in S-L sizes depending on availability. They’re all printed with eco ink too! Here are my two faves so far…
School Collage Tee
Very Dada, I love the blend of typography and photo-montage, Constructivist style and nostalgic themes. Über kewl.
Flying Hearts Tee
Very romantic, rather dreamy, perfect for cracking the post-Emo market. This one’s for the girls in M/L for $12.

A T-Shirt Renaissance At Sistine
The Sistine Chapel ceiling might be famous for Michaelangelo’s Creation of Adam, but Sistine, a progressive streetwear company based in NY, want to bring the same recognition to t-shirt art – and to be honest, they’re definitely going the right way about it! The site looks more like a gallery than a store, each product image is gilt framed and stacked together in collections for which you’ll find a lookbook on hand if you fancy taking a closer inspection. There’s a great little news section too, which does exactly what every good t-shirt brand blog should do – feature each and every t-shirt at the store alongside a decent background story on their inspiration and design.
Every tee at the store is available in sizes S-XL at $36 each which doesn’t include shipping, that’s a little steep for me considering the print sizes, although we do have a special price for all our faithful Buy Tees readers! To save $6 on each and every tee in the store use the code LIVELETLIVE at the checkout and you’ll save yourself 15% of the usual price! Altogether there are thirteen shirts at the store including six from their winter collection which launched just last week and is simply titled “Live and Let Live” as you might have guessed by now :0 Here are a few of my faves… (sorry I can’t link to each tee – that’s Javascript for ya :/)
Genesis 2 Tee

Gods of technology or simply slaves?
Malus Tee

Boy meets girl, girl meets snake, girl eats apple.
Live and Let Die Tee

Donnie is looking older everyday.
Imprint Tee

I’m always a sucker for a Rorschach.

Enclothe Autumn Collection
This is the first time I’ve reviewed Enclothe and to start off I have some great shots of their forthcoming Autumn collection for you which will be available November 1st. For those who are already familiar with the brand you’ll notice a change in direction as each new collection is released.
Expect even more naturalistic designs which perfectly suit the fall season, with scenes of nature deftly illustrated for the most part by one talented individual Derek M. who also set up and runs the company as well as manages retail and marketing for Enclothe. They also offer hoodies, posters and accessories featuring the same quality of design if you fancy completing your collection.
Let’s begin with the forthcoming additions – this is the first time the collection has been revealed to the public and I am sure that Derek M. would appreciate your feedback if you’d care to comment:

The attention to detail is as always exceptional, and the “design treatment” for the Fall season is conceptually and technically finer than ever, with subtly engrained and textured naturalistic illustrations that raise the benchmark for t-shirt design. Enclothe has counterbalanced its Summer collection of tragic tales of ghost Ships, great lighthouse battles, and mysteries of the deep with a more contemplative collection of highly ornate and personalised designs. As always the passion for both art an arcane art of storytelling comes to the fore, Derek has spearheaded a t-shirt brand that looks beyond the immediate, eschewing fads and trends in order to lift t-shirt design to a whole new level, be it conceptually and/or technically.
Here’s a potted history of the brand development:
“Enclothe was started by me (Derek M.) back in 2003 with simple goals. It was a way to sell some ‘Warmonger’ shirts I had designed as my personal way to protest oncoming Iraq war. The sign shop I had worked at had a screen printing press so I started working after hours to print my own shirts. The success of that led me to begin creating other shirts, ‘Ninja Pirate’, and ‘451‘ were among some of the first designs. From those few shirts the business grew and travelled with me down to San Francisco for five years as I attended the Academy of Arts University. There my skills and taste matured and I began to craft some more elaborate plans for Enclothe. Since then we’ve bounced from SF to Oregon down to San Diego where we briefly opened an Art Gallery/shop, this was a short expensive stay before we ended up back in my home in the Rogue Valley in Oregon, which is where we will stay for the foreseeable future.
I have to include a few of my fave tees from the Summer collection, especially Enclothe’s 451 tee inspired by Fahrenheit 451 written by one of my fave sci-fi writers as a child Ray Bradbury and magnificently translated to the screen in 1966 by François Truffaut. An Orwellian tale of fascist society controlled by the limitation of knowledge and information. A task carried out by “firemen” who, as did the Nazis, burned books rather than put out fires.

If you fancy any remaining tees from the Summer collection be warned, most are now either out of stock or running very low, still no harm in trying your luck. My personal fave has to be Electric Buddha, technically superb, I’d love to be able recreate this old school etching style – something I have been struggling with for weeks. I’ll have to get some tips from Derek if I can.
Enclothe have a strong reputation for intelligent and beguiling design infusing their love of mythology, science fiction, literature, the arts and the environment into each and every garment. The Autumn collection features stories of ancient battles, dying planets, the beginning of creation, and the end of time, some big subjects for the humble medium of the tee. Enclothe sources talent from around the world in order to enhance their sublime art shirts, having already featured artwork from such luminaries as;
Jeremy Hanlin
Aaron Allen
Nikki Burch
Sven Palmowski
Adam Rosenlund
Geordan Moore
Michael Heinz-Fischer
Jerry Maninang

Luuk
Luuk aka Luke Chiswell is an Australian artist and tee designer as well as a rather elusive character. There’s very little info out there on Luuk but his t-shirts really caught my eye and so I thought I’d share. First off the featured shirts are only available at a few Australian and NZ retail outlets (which I’ll list at the end of the post) but even if you’re not an Antipodean it’s still a little eye candy for you all. I love the style, beautifully simplistic and off-the-wall humour combine to create a rather outstanding selection of novel t-shirt designs.
However much I love elaborate illustration the truth is Luuk really has got the knack of what t-shirt design should be about. Immediate, eye-catching, solid design with a strong visual impact that lingers somewhat in the memory. Take a look at these, and if you do know of any more retail outlets outside of Oz and NZ then let me know and I will add them to the list!
