Buy Tees On Hiatus
Sorry folks but for now I and Chris are calling it a day. Work is scant, the money is hardly trickling in, and to be honest there just isn’t the time for Buy Tees right now.
We want to thank all those who’ve stopped by in the past, readers new and old, we’ve had a fine time, but in the end it all comes down to resources and with none on offer there’s little to do but put BT on hold.
You can still keep up with my artwork at http://paulbaines.co.uk
Keep an eye out for a book I’m working on too entitled ‘A diary of the future’ – who knows it might be a good read ;)
All the best
Paul and Chris ;)
Sneak Peek @ SockMonkee For Spring
SockMonkee is a cool indie toon tee label headed up by Chris Sandlin, a highly accomplished illustrator, popular t-shirt/merch designer for bands like and a chap with a great sense of humour, which you can see immediately in his selection of fine funny tees. Past clients include Bravado, Case-Mate, MusicSkins, Click For Art, Laurence King Publishing, Pyknik, ueled By Ramen, Live Nation / Signatures Network, 410BC, Rockett, Glamour Kills, Paint the Stars, Electric Zombie, DS!, Anberlin, Armor For Sleep, Bayside, Coldplay, Gym Class Heroes, Living Sacrifice, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Plain White T’s, Saves the Day, Staind, The Academy Is.
He’s just released some sneak peek views of his latest Spring Collection which is coming real soon…
In the meantime there are a few bargains to be had, although all the ones I like are still $18, there is a rather enticing t-shirt bundle that includes a free print and two shirts for $24. Most tees are still available in sizes XS-XL.
Cuckoo Tee
You don’t have to be cuckoo to work here wear this, but it helps :D Deffo my fave!
Daddy?! Tee
Not sure where to go with this tee. Does this mean that lumberjacks hump trees? I thought they’d just stick to dressing up in frilly silk lingerie?
Shirt & Print Bundle
Order both shirts (Hoody Hoo & The 3 Wongs) and receive a free Barbaric Brad print. Barbaric Brad Prints are limited to only 50
Johnny Cupcakes Is Coming To London
To mark the opening of their new London retail store on Saturday the 12th of March at 1:00pm in 10 Fouberts Place, Carnaby, London, Johnny Cupcakes is pulling out all the stops with an exclusive London tee and a fab toon to keep you occupied until the big day!
Brimming with Yank clichés of London like the word ‘shoppe’ which hasn’t been used in London for a few hundred years and a guy in a top hat reading a newspaper which is more suited for Newmarket or Aintree racetracks than the capital, the design is still rather sweet.
Still, I’m sure Johnny will see how much we’ve all moved on since Charles Dickens wrote ‘A Christmas Carol’ when he steps ashore this septic sceptered isle of ours. Johnny, just a warning, don’t give beggars less than a quid (if anything) or they will shout abuse as they set their rabid dogs on you, apologise for George ‘W.M.D’ Bush before Obama ‘bamming strangers into a brief coma, and don’t cite Dick Van Dyke as your favourite actor or someone will surely kick you in the nuts. All that asides, have a nice stay!
In the meantime Johnny will keep you occupied with this cartoon, hey, it’s like being a kid on a Saturday morning all over again =}
For the rest of the world who can’t make it to London here’s a few of their non-exclusive tees :p
See ‘em all here.
Disturbia – Spring/Summer Collection
Yay, the awesome Disturbia are back with another phenomenal collection of tees, vees, hoodies and accessories for the Spring/Summer. As usual expect eye-popping graphic excesses exploring the darker nether regions of society as well as some rather twisted humour to keep you all bubbling along. Subjects include dead whacked out Beach Boys, a satanic Beethoven and the Lizard King himself Jim Morrison – let’s just hope he doesn’t ask anyone to lament for his pee pee :p All this and more is available at £22 tees for guys and girls and vests at £20 each in sizes S-XL.
Damn, there are just too many to feature, I can only give you an idea of what to expect, although really all you need to know is this… “Wow!”
Travis Bickle Tee
Are you looking at me? No you’re looking at the finest t-shirt tribute to De Niro’s masterpiece, ‘Travis Bickle’. I love Taxi Driver so much, it’s the only time I can stand a performance by that awful “Can do!” woman Cybill Shepherd. I love the perspective in this one too, a perfect Bickle pose. Available as tees and vests for guys and tees for girls.
Kalma Tee
Kalma refers to the Finnish goddess of death rather than the Islamic prayer – just in case someone has a Fatwah brewing. Lovely detail as usual, gore has never looked as beautiful. Available as tees and vees for guys and girls.
Bad Vibrations Tee
If you’re an old tripper like me and ever had the misfortune to be bombarded by Pet Sounds just as you’re peaking then you will definitely relate to this tee. If not, take my word for it, as far as psychedelic sound goes The Beach Boys are more like heroin than heroes, unless of course you’re straight as a die. I love the style of Bad Vibrations, it’s something of a departure from the wild in-house style at Disturbia, but it works, for sure. You can go surfing in sorrow with this tee, no vests this time.
Symphony For The Devil Tee
Beethoven is spending eternity scrawling ditties for Diablo, don’t ask why, I have no idea, I’d have thought Wagner had more to answer for. But if you’re into your dead classical composers, this one’s a great start ;)
Wolves Tee
So good it hurts, the illustration is a killer, perhaps the best yet from Disturbia, incredible colour and tonal shading make this one worthy of a major hardback graphic novel cover. Hope to see more like this for the future. Dead sexy too! Only for the girls this time, as vests and tees in sizes S-XL.
One more for luck…
Voodoo Chile Tee
Now, if you’re going to get out of your bonce put some Hendrix on, it’s honestly the only way to go, this guy played guitar like most people orgasm. If you have a friend that can’t play guitar but insists you should listen sit them down with Are You Experienced and walk away. They should either improve or give up by the next morning… lol. Tees for the girls and tees/vees for the guys.
Incredible stuff as always – do you want more?
New DeadBuryDead Tees
DeadBuryDead have just released 8 new tees for Spring, if you’re not familiar with the label then check out this review. Two shirts that immediately jumped out at me lean towards photo social commentary, which is definitely a new direction for the tee scene. These and all their tees are available for $29.99 in sizes S-XXL (stock permitting).
Metal Heart Tee
Celebrating the steel capital of the U.S, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Without undue sentimentality and a fascinating ‘feel’ to this design, a worthy addition to the collection. I like that classy little logo beneath the main photo too. Available in white at $29.99 each – sizes S-XXL.
Open Road Tee
Inspired by voice of the ‘beat generation’ Jack Kerouac. Once again dipping into the past with another large photographic print, beautifully executed. Available in black at $29.99 each – sizes S-XXL.
Check out the rest at www.DeadBuryDead.com or flick through their lookbook.
Getting Recreative With The-Rec
Sports t-shirts for the most part “could do better” but there’s an exception and it comes in the form of The-Rec. They’re a brand new Californian-based sports/recreation t-shirt brand with their sights firmly fixed on upping the fashion stakes and appealing to a wider and younger market of sports fans that like to play as well as watch.
They’ve got a smart design ethic too, really delving into their love of sport to come up with some unique and stylish designs. The following three t-shirts will be released at the online store launch on the 31st of March 2011 at www.the-rec.com – I’ve no details on pricing and sizes so far but I’ll let you know when I find out!!
The Murph Tee
Baseball fans are in for a treat with this rather snazzy tribute to the late great sportswriter Jack Murphy and the stadium they dedicated to him.
Opening Day Tee
Another baseball t-shirt, this time highlighting the start of the 2011 season, for all those who just can’t wait!
Logo Tee
Yep it’s a logo t-shirt, still it’s a nice one for its ilk, and it’s probably the thing to do when you’re first launching your brand.
So remember sports fans head on over here on the 31st of March if you want to snap one of their tees, in the meantime try their blog or Facebook page for plenty of updates. Let’s just hope the next season covers a few more sports than baseball!
Gryphony …Coming Soon!
I’ve been bombarded with emails from Gryphony who insisted on sending me a shirt and requesting specific dates for a post. It reminds me a little of the teaser campaign for Gabbo on the Simpsons. Of course nothing in life runs smoothly, the t-shirt hasn’t arrived and the store hasn’t as yet launched, but I have to admire Gryphony’s lust for their label, that’s a good sign for me. As yet I have still not been let in on any specifics, except what many already know, and that is that this is another time-limited site, in this case you’ll have 72 hours to decide if you want to snap up their latest offering, before it’s gone forever.
Here’s the latest blurb “Founded in 2010. Gryphony comes out of the necessity of finding premium quality clothing and fun detailed designs. Gryphony is a clothing line by artists for artists. We hand pick everything that comes on our store and we believe clothing should be unique. We showcase a limited t-shirt design every 72 hours. Knowing the needs of today’s designers, we want to give back to the community by helping struggling artists promote their work, create a fan base and spread the word about what they love to do, design.“
In the meantime I have sneak preview of what I presume will be their first shirt:
Mario Vs. The Smurfs Tee

Love Like Vultures Tee
This is a very special t-shirt for you, yes it’s a charity t-shirt, and yes all the profits will go to charity, but the personal story behind the design really hits home. I think it best if I let People Like Me explain the reasoning behind their latest limited edition Love Like Vultures Tee.
“When we started People Like Me, we had plans to use our powers for evil. Nothing fancy, just the usual stuff: money, world domination, and a rap video featuring P Diddy. But when friend to the company, Kerry Kelemen, needed help we jumped at the chance to play the role of hero. On Kerry’s 24th birthday she was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukaemia). After battling the disease for about a year, she was transferred home to Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York City where she received a bone marrow transplant from her big brother in October. This month we learned that the transplant was not successful. The leukaemia is back, but Kerry is still fighting.“
PLM’s designer and founder David Ayllon teamed up with Kerry to create this very special limited edition Valentine’s Day t-shirt entitled Love Like Vultures. The thinking behind this particular Valentine’s design is as apt as they come – out of all the animals that mate for life, Black Vultures are amongst the ugliest and vicious. It seems that even they have a soft side. BTW do keep an eye out for the poem printed on the inside of the shirt.
Love Like Vultures Tee
The Love Like Vultures Tee is available for presale for one week only (sale ends midnight on the 31st of this month). Every dime they make from this t-shirt will go to Kerry and her fight against leukemia. A beautiful bittersweet gesture, a perfect way for Kerry’s friends to show her just how much they love her, and for the rest of us, this is more than just another t-shirt, it’s a chance to help someone who really needs it.
Pre-order yours now for $30 in sizes S-XXL for men and women here. If you can’t afford the t-shirt then show Kerry some support by joining her Facebook group Dropkick Cancer for Kerry Kelemen. We all wish you a full recovery Kerry.

Bob Dylan x Beethoven Tee
Love it, an amazing graphic transposition. It’s one of those images you’d had have expected to crop up yonks ago. Nice one ;) Get it in black and white for men and women. Remember these and all YOL’s tees are highly limited!
Rats Tee
Hilarious. Now that’s what I call theatre :p I never could stand Lloyd Webber, to be honest I’ve always felt that there’s a natural evolution in the arts and theatre has most definitely seen better days. Dumbing it down doesn’t help. If you can’t stand bad British theatre you can get the Rats Tee for guys and girls.
New York Smile Tee
Again, another classic design in the making. I am shocked that no one in NY had thought of this design until now. So simple it hurts. A smile in NY is a rare thing, get it in t-shirt form for guys and girls in black and white.
See more of the new additions at Young Lovers. Don’t forget to vote too!
Japanese Laundry
Japanese Laundry are a brand new label from the UK with a passion for all things (you guessed it) Japanese. It all started with a love for Japanese Selvedge Raw denim jeans, for 12 years they’ve been working on producing their own, and now they’re planning to release a whole host of Japanese influenced items including tees, polos, sweats and shirts. JL will be opening their doors or rather booting up the online store at the end of this month, they aim to offer up their first batch of t-shirts at £29.99 each in sizes S,M,L,XL which will be available for pre-order and available from April online and in stores across the UK.
I’ve persuaded Ross at Japanese Laundry to upload photos at Flickr, so this will probably be your first sneak peek at their shirts including their Harajuku Showgirls Tee. Unless of course you’ve read the technical review of their merchandise at DapperDude.co.uk. In the meantime feast your eyes on these which will all be available in a variety of difference colours…
