Dear Hunter Tee

Here’s a charity t-shirt label with a difference, Arm The Animals are all about animal rights, protection and care, they work with and donate profits to many established charities in the field, the difference is you won’t find any sentimental trite printed on their tees, ATA have gone hardcore in your face in an all out war on animal cruelty. There’s one shirt in their collection that really jumps out at me and that’s Dear Hunter…

Dear Hunter Tee

Dear Hunter Tee (Black)

Dear Hunter Tee (Grey)

Dear Hunter Tee (Girls - White)

A great concept, I’d love to see this design as a street art mural to be honest, now that would be an exciting viral campaign, even a few stickers would draw in attention around N.Y.C, L.A., London, Paris, Berlin… (for starters). You can get this tee in black and grey (guys) for $21 in sizes S-XL and a baby-doll tee in white for girls here. You can get 10% off this tee or any alternative available at Arm The Animals by using our exclusive discount code ATA10 at the checkout.

Here’s Arm The Animals mission statement: The mission? Simple: Create killer T-Shirts and raise money for cash-strapped animal care organizations! We can’t save every abused, unloved or unwanted animal, but we can save some! We are dedicated to making witty, high quality designs that truly MAKE A STATEMENT, raise awareness and generate funds for animal care organizations in need of assistance.

We’re not here to preach, we’re simply doing what we are capable of to try and help a horrible situation… 4,000,000 – 5,000,000 animals are euthanized every year because people simply don’t do the basics for their pets. It really isn’t an option to spay, neuter, feed, water and love your pets – it’s a requirement! If you make the choice to own an animal, at least have the heart to make sure they are healthy and cared for – pretty simple, right?

A great cause that seriously deserves all our attention. ATA donate 15% of net proceeds to a number of different rescues/shelters.  They will initially be sending donations to the “Good Dog Animal Rescue” based in Venice Beach and “Strangest Angels” in Los Angeles.  However they are also getting set up with the SPCA, but feel that  smaller rescues are much more in need of assistance at this point. If you fancy this tee or any of their others visit www.armtheanimals.com.

David After Dentist T-Shirt

Probably one of the most famous videos on Youtube has to be “David After Dentist” where the then 7 year old boy David DeVore Jr. was filmed by his father after leaving the dentists. It’s had nearly 65 million views so far and David who on the drive home asks “Is This Real Life?” has become something of an Internet craze in itself. The catchphrase has even hit the small screen – the Devores family have already appeared on many shows including the Today Show, Tyra Banks Show and The O’Reilly Factor. David DeVore Sr. has decided to sell t-shirts to celebrate the hilarious video, and for those who might think he’s just cashing in the family have already raised $6000 for the charity Operation Smile which provides cleft lip and palette surgery for over 200,000 children in over 50 countries so far.

Before you all start hailing the Devores as saints, the bulk of the money doesn’t go to charity, however it will go towards the school and college education of their two sons, which when you think about it is fair enough seeing as they’ve both provided an enormous amount of entertainment for millions of Youtube fans. Still, I suppose you could argue for and against, though I have no qualms. What’s more one of the t-shirts on offer is actually rather cool, a great comic style and at a good price too.

6 Dollar Shirts

We’re all lighter in the pocket these days, you’d think every company under the sun would be screaming at us with real bargain prices by now. Still you can rely on 6DollarShirts.com to come up with the goods at a price anyone can handle. Asides the flat rate $6 per tee 6DS offer a bulk discount of just $50 for 10 shirts if you fancy going in with some mates. You might be surprised to know that even though their prices are low, they pay their artists a very fair commission for each original design they take on. If you fancy making yourself a tidy $500 + $100 store credit then submit your designs here.

All their tees are a maximum two-colour prints but the shirts come in a wide range of different colours. As for the house-style, expect more humour than artistic creativity, although a few blur the divide.

See them all and even sell your own at 6 Dollar Shirts.

Anti-Eco T-Shirts

Anti-Eco, despite the name, take the environment very seriously, all their tees are certified 100% organic and printed with water-based inks, their message is always ecological, and the subject for each and every t-shirt questions Man’s relationship with nature and the Earth. Yet they’ve still managed to hold on to their sense of humour, and in fact some of their shirts border on the hilarious. Anti-Eco is based in New York, they hand screen print every t-shirt there and ship around the world (free shipping to the US, Canada and Europe!), they do a nice sideline in Tote bags too, but we’ll stick with the tees. A percentage of each Anti-Eco item purchased is donated to the clean-up and preservation of wildlife in the gulf oil spill. and they update customers on how every dime is spent too.

I’d have to criticize Anti-Eco on their price structure, sure they handle the shipping and everything is hand made but $52 is way too step for a t-shirt, organic or not. Still, there’s always hope the guys will hold a sale in the near future? (Hint). If you’re sick and tired of the same well-meaning, hippified “Save The Earth” tees on offer just about everywhere these days, then you’ll probably appreciate Anti-Eco’s rather twisted sense of humour – even if you don’t appreciate the pricing!

A Little Radiation Brightens My Day Tee
A Little Radiation Brightens My Day Tee

I’m not as big a fan of the sun as I used to be, I spend more time at this screen or in the studio than out in the sun, but even I appreciate the sentiment. When people freak out about radiation they should take in to account it’s everywhere, here and in space, and there’s no getting away from it. Just try not to take your next vacation in Chernobyl… Get this tee at a whacking great $55 (ouch) in sizes XS-XL in black here.

Unnatural Inorganic All Fat Tee
Unnatural Inorganic All Fat Tee

I am a lapsed veggie, I spent a few years of my late-teens eating Quorn and Soy and didn’t touch a piece of meat till my 20s, however I hated vegetables at the time that didn’t help. When strangers started handing me pamphlets about annorexia I knew I had to turn to the dark side. Looking at my waistline it’s probably time to try again, although the smell of bacon kicks the crap out of lentil soup every time. Get this tee at a painful $55 in sizes XS-XL in white here.

Global Warming Sounds Comfy Tee
Global Warming Sounds Comfy Tee

For those who don’t understand how global warming can eventually lead to an ice age it’s time to go back to school. The fact is there are plenty of countries out there, including Britain, that suffer from crappy weather all year round (except for a few brief weeks of summer if we’re lucky), but the truth is if the world keeps heating up it’ll mean ocean currents like the Gulf Stream will be weakened just as it was 10,000 years ago when the temperatures across Europe dropped by 10°. Still it’s true, Global Warming does sound comfy lol.  Get this tee at a recession-ignorant $55 in sizes XS-XL in moss here.

Eco Eye-Candy From OMUNKY

OMUNKY are a happy-go-lucky t-shirt brand offering up a unique line in super cute environmentally themed apparel, they’ve both a strong in-house graphic style and all their tees are printed on 100% Organic-cotton or Recycled-cotton and 5% of all profits go to WildAid. OMUNKY is a one man brand, everything from the design to print to completion of orders (promptly mind you) is handled by Rick Waters, a man with a passion for the environment and a savvy mind who understands exactly how the public can and do suffer from “eco fatigue”. However much you might think you care about good causes it’s fair to say that from time-to-time you’ll get a little tired of being kept “on message”, after all it may be the end of the world, but if we all slump in a heap now and get depressed about it it won’t do much good. (Actually that might help if we did – at least we’d use less oil and gas.)

Rick wants to inject a little humour back into the environmental fold, his bright and colourful graphics definitely help to keep things in perspective. After all, asides the doom and gloom, the planet’s worth saving because it’s a great place to be, even on the most selfish level that makes sense, I know we’re not masters of the universe, or even a piddling solar system, but if we were we’d realise just how much fun it is to live on a planet with such diversity of wildlife, animals, birds, and yes, even people. The Earth is still a fun place to be, even now with all the devastation we have collectively caused, there is still a massive variety of wildlife, beautiful and exciting mountains, oceans, forests, you name it, OMUNKY wants to celebrate that fact, and their enthusiasm is infectious. So next time you harp on at someone about saving the planet, wear one of these before blasting off another eco lecture, or at the very least, do it with a smile!

Spots & Shades Tee
Spots and Shades (Organic) T-Shirt

This is the latest tee design from OMUNKY and definitely one of the best, Rick really puts himself under pressure to keep producing a new shirt concept every month, I think he’s being a little hard on himself. I’d stick to collections, and I’d definitely focus on large friendly graphic shirts like this one. It really stands out at the store, then again a giraffe wearing shades wouldn’t exactly blend in with the background wherever he was. This should be a hit with the kids too, I I was Rick I’d be looking for licensing and distribution for work like this. Superb organic tees available in a wide range of sizes for men, women and kids at a competitive of $22 each. 5% of every sale goes to WildAid.

Tiger Turmoil Tee
Tiger Turmoil (Organic) T-Shirt

This is definitely my fave shirt at OMUNKY, I don’t normally succumb to cute, but this one is the bee’s knees, or in this case tiger’s nose. Almost like a still from an old Disney toon, there’s something incredibly nostalgic about the Tiger Turmoil t-shirt. Maybe it’s the subtle range of hues, or the way the tiger’s face peers out from the dark. Superb organic tees available in a wide range of sizes for men, women and kids at a competitive of $22 each. 5% of every sale goes to WildAid.

I’d love to see a lot more “comic character” shirts like these two at OMUNKY in the future, they really could catch on in a big way. Keep up to date with all the latest eco-friendly shirts at www.omunky.com!

Farofa Nation Charity Tees

Farofa Nation is a design and T-Shirt company dedicated to helping the poor and unfortunate kids of Brazil. In 2007 designers Serge Castagna and Ana Testa Castagna founded Farofa Nation, the couple first met in 1998, Serge was born in Switzerland and raised in the States and it was a few years before Ana brought him to her home town in Rio. It was there that Serge witnessed true poverty for the first time first-hand and from then on both were  determined to help the abandoned street children of Brazil in anyway they could.

The name Farofa Nation comes from  a popular dish in Brazil called a ‘farofa’ which is a manoic flour usually in a mix of salted and smoked meats, olives eggs and spices, however the term also means ‘eclectic blend’ in Brazilian culture,  which is the design ethos behind the label. To produce their inimitable tees they procure the talents of some very interesting designers and artists including Brazilian artist/art director Jamie Tao, hilarious artist Luis Aguilera, and Miami artist Juan Patino.

If you’re looking for something a little different and would like to help the abandoned street kids of Brasil in some small way, check these out:

The Mind of Tao T-Shirt
The Mind of Tao T-Shirt

A lovely hand-drawn tee for the girls, it almost looks like a moleskine sketch torn from the book, rather hypnotic in its own way. Perfectly fitting for the ‘eclectic’ theme for Farofa Nation, you can buy The Mind of Tao tee for $26 (only small sizes left!).

Royal Monster T-Shirt
Royal Monster Tee

Designed by Luis Aguilera, if you’re a fan of cute monster toons then this must be the king of them all. Funny, irreverant and rather hilarious the Royal Monster tee is available for $26 in sizes S/M.

Abduction T-Shirt

Abduction Tee

Most definitely my favourite of the lot, the Abduction tee features those pesky greys sizing up yet another cow to slice up for what I can only guess is an off-world gene bank to re-introduce life to the planet when we humans have screwed everything up beyond repair. Still, enough of the conspiracy theories, get this ultra cool shirt for $26 in sizes S/M.

See the rest of Farofa Nation’s quirky t-shirt collection at www.farofanation.com and maybe help a few kids in Brazil improve their lives at the same time.
