Insert Coin Clothing
If you’re a gamer you should enjoy this one, although the brand name Insert Coin Clothing harks back to the arcade generation, but all the tees and hoodies on offer are far more up to date. Taking inspiration from all your fave games including Gears of War, Mario Kart, Metal Gear Solid and Bioshock.
They’ve had a ton of exposure including a recommendation from the (not particularly funny) comedian Phil Jupitus (where’s Bill Bailey when you need him?) and appearances on the BBC, Xbox Live, Start/Select and plenty more media channels. They’ve already sold 1000′s of tees and hoodies and have a big online following, so I’m rather flummoxed why Jon Rhodes (any relation to Nick?) – one of the guys behind the company – wants our lil’ old blog to give them a shout… still we’re glad to oblige.
I’ve reviewed a few movie themed labels before and ICC work on much the same principle, if you love gaming and know the titles well, these tees should all be pretty much self-explanatory. I, to be painfully honest with you, haven’t a clue, I still can’t get a copy of Populous 2 to work on my Macbook, but that’s another story. ICC’s tees are available in different cuts for guys (s-3XL) and girls (S-L) to at $20/£25/€30 each. They also have a very hot female model …heh.

Yackfou
Yackfou have been on my “to do list” for ages – I’ve no excuses why I’ve waylaid, perhaps it’s the lack of translation on the site from its native German, which itself might be an adverse reaction to me atrociously failing my German ‘O’ Level (yes I am that old). In my aural exam I sat there for five minutes with a rather attractive German woman who scowled at me as I repeated the phrase “Ich nicht sprechen Deutsch”. Still, that’s no reason to miss out on some great tees!
A great looking site with a store chock full of uniquely Yackfou’ish products including tees, sweats, prints and buttons. There’s a broad mix of graffiti, illustration, graphic and typographic offerings, although I’d ignore their “sale” link as it leads to a 404. The bio is a little vague too, even with the aid of Google Translate it comes down to a little spiel about how Yackfou aren’t really in the fashion game, they like design, they like art… don’t we all? Anyway, like it or not Yackfou – you are fashion designers now – and I’m sure there are plenty of you who will agree that they’re doing a great job at it!
The prices are a little steep ranging between €24.90 and €34.90 each (ouch), although they are for the main part screen printed and on super soft tees. Prices seemsto be a common problem these days, the currency markets are making a mockery of international trade, no matter what you want to sell – and seeing as the Euro is riding so high the rest of us will have to save a little more than usual I suppose. Anyway don’t let my petty gripes put you off, there’s so much going on at Yackfou it’d take hours to feature all my faves individually, so instead here’s a gallery of the best of the best – including some cool shirt dresses for the girls…
Great stuff. See more at www.Yackfou.com.
Zero Footprint Tees
This one’s just for fun so put your dosh away and if you really want one of these tees:
1. You’re mad, in a very likeable way.
2. You’ll have to make one yourself.
We all know the phrase “art imitating life” but here’s a new one on me… art imitating tees. Dave Rittinger is a highly regarded NY Born / NJ Raised conceptual artist – currently working with two legendary American conceptual artists and sculptors Dennis Oppenheim and Alice Aycock. With Dennis and Alice Dave he has worked on speculative and commissioned public art projects all over the world while continuing to operate on his own conceptual work that embraces various mediums from film to sculpture, installation and still image.
His Zero Footprint shirts are exactly that, well almost, asides the glue they are about as ecological as you can get. You guessed it – they’re made entirely from leaves.
Zero Footprint Tees
A hilarious collection I know, but still, somehow a comment on just how difficult it will be to fix the mess the human race is in right now. I was watching the documentary “Collapse” the other night and thinking on exactly the same lines. If you still want new tees when the oil runs out make sure you have these in your garden:
A cotton field.
A loom.
A large selection of berries and metal oxides for dye.
An optimistic outlook.
Until then – have fun ;)

More news from the highly controversial 2 Sick Bastards – they’ve added two new tees featuring letchy Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi and dodgy blood diamond studded Naomi Campbell – plus there’s a cool contest to win a free 2SB tee! Phew…

Lol…
Here are the new additions:

Queen of Blood Diamonds
Again available on pre order at a discount for guys and girls in blue and white and all sizes. Look… they were just “dirty looking pebbles” okay?
As usual they’re screen printed tees limited to just 50 each so if you fancy one I’d snap it up soon as 2SB are doing some brisk trade nowadays.
CityStache Tees – Support Prostate Cancer
I always admire charitable t-shirt brands for their work in helping to promote and fund good causes, but man, have CityStache got their finger on the pulse when it comes to branding and marketing. No offence to most charitees out there but to be honest most are rather dour and worthy when it comes to product design. Sure they have to get the message across but most people don’t want to wear charity logos or pictures of dying kids and war when it comes to a t-shirt for a casual day out.
“Hey are you going to the beach?” “Yeah, are you going to a fund-raiser?” “No.”
Since the heights of philanthropism in the boom years the bust years have definitely seen charity burnout take effect. That’s why charitable causes such as CityStache are rethinking the whole charitee model, first off their site is super slick and yet still a lot of fun. And if anyone needs cheering up its sufferers of cancer, no matter what kind. What’s more CityStache are aiming for an optimistic target of 10,000 tees rather than a ridiculous one that past charity t-shirt launches have claimed, one of which wanted to sell a million.
I really like the tees too, there’s nothing depressing about the design (which is a great relief), available for both guys and girls in a range of sizes at $30 each (hey it’s for charity after all) in white. It’s actually rather beautifully drawn in an old school lino-cut style (I’m guessing with vector graphics). Probably one of the coolest light-hearted charitees I have seen in a while!
My Hairy Moustache Tee
CityStache’s scoreboard is looking a little unspectacular right now with the top city going to San Diego with 23 tees sold this week. Still let’s hope with a little help from a few bloggers (including myself) we can get this thing on the road. It’s a global event so everyone out there, no matter where you live, can help CityStache attain its target, or at least work towards it.
The sobering fact is that the charities with the most capital advertise the most and hook up with high street retail tie-ins. CityStache might not have the budget but they could still tie in with all sorts of brands, I’m thinking Gillette, Lynx, Nike, anything that might have a target male audience. Of course everyone has to deal with the PR department, but if they can be convinced of the benefits to their clients at least one of the many 100s of big agencies out there will give in… eventually. Radio might seem a dated medium but a lot of older people still listen to it in their daily grind, just one piece on a station like Radio 4 or World Service (in the UK) or equivalent in other countries would wake up the magazine/newspaper market. If enough people buy the tees then it’s time for events, everyone wearing moustaches spontaneously leaping into choreographed routines en masse in cities around the world (hey they did it for a mobile phone ad here in the UK). Who knows, I’m sure they’re brimming with ideas at CityStache.
If you fancy helping a great cause get started by visiting their site at www.CityStache.com.
3 For 2 @ 604Republic
Vancouver based 604Republic are holding a 3 for 2 special on all their highly salubrious graphic tees and hoodies. No need for a promo code, just checkout what you want (either 3 tees or 3 hoodies) for two-thirds the price!
What’s more there’s a new tee on the block. They’re definitely gaining the upper hand with this gorgeous little Art Nouveau number available for guys (I’m guessing girls too and very soon?) in brown at $17.95 in all sizes.

Bandit-1$M
Borne from the minds of the French creative collective 123KLAN, Bandit-1$M was founded in 2007 by Scien and Klor, recognised graffiti artists who used the label as a way of making a living rather than risking their necks on the street. In French culture street artists deploy what is known as “banditisme” or banditry. The dollar sign represents their descent into the murky mire of capitalism an essential part of human survival. Held aloft under the banner of authenticity and uncompromising style, their t-shirt collection mixes bold designs and smart messages in an array of catchy colours. There are plenty of accessories on offer if you want to go the whole hog including hats, stickers, cushions, posters, wall design and lots more.
The Fall Collection consists of 15 tees and it’s deeply rooted within 123KLAN’s main in-house style including all the usual trademark details – a la mode graffiti icons, strong design and punchier messages. All the tees are presented in a slick palette of muted neutrals (grey, navy, black and white) revived with hints of red and deep orange. Available in unisex, girly and even kids sizes, all the tees are printed on American Apparel.
The collection is presented in an eighteen-page lookbook shot by artist Meka in iconic Montreal locations, and featuring Sylvestre from bike shop Brakeless, artist Yanick Blanchet, writer/blogger Elodie Laetitia and graffiti shop-owner Sino, plus the 123KIDZ. Here are a few of my faves from the ultra-street savvy collection – all available in heaps more colours and styles at $32 each (tax included).

Have Fun Kids Tee
ETC
ETC aka “Embrace The Culture” is a positively charged piece of branding for an eclectic, didactic, but ultimately “open-minded” fashion house with their eye on the USA and Europe – hoping to dominate the typographic/graphic tee market with a selection of solid designer tees aimed at a wider-than-indie market whilst still retaining some of that ad hoc creative exuberance and spontaneity for the low-end catwalk. It’s a great piece of positioning if they can pull it off, although they’ll be creatively challenged from all sides by a wide variety of indie designers and top end labels, with the right exposure, pricing and coverage they might just crack it.
A deceptively simple site, a professional lookbook on their homepage (nice…) and a Big Cartel store are a good start, but I’d upgrade their account so they can continue that branding right through to the checkout. The typography tees are definitely slick, but I’ve had my fill of text recently so I’ll focus on the graphic/text tees on offer for both guys and girls at $24.95 in sizes S-L.
