Cynical Tees at LoveIsLame.com
Some may say that these days people aren’t as sensitive they used to be, perhaps even de-sensitised to the world around them, and who could blame them? Just about everything in life of any real value has either been dismissed or over-sentimentalised by almost every corporation after your buck or political party scrounging for your vote. So it makes a lot of sense to see labels like Love Is Lame emerging in the t-shirt scene, offering a subtly humorous yet jaded view on the world we live in these days. As the old saying goes ‘no one likes a smart ass’ but the fact is mealy the mouthed guy or girl standing in the corner of the kitchen complaining about everything under the sun is far more likely to nab a hit comedy show than a born entertainer with nothing but smiles for an adoring public.
The truth is a vast majority of people are wise to the world these days, all those broken promises, all those lame duck ideas, all the phoney advertising claims, and overrated celebrities, you name it, someone somewhere is royally screwing it up. No worries folks, LoveIsLame.com is one step ahead of you, and offer a limited range (so far) of future classics for our cynical age. You can tell exactly where they’re heading, at least creatively, by the name of the label. I am sure a lot of people will argue with the sentiment, hey I love my GF to bits, but even I remember those days, months, years, looking for my perfect match, and I can tell you there were plenty of times I thought just the same. Sitting in the rain waiting for a train after a washout of a gig or club or party, sneering at the loved up couple snogging on the other end of the bench, whispering sweet incomprehensible nothings, calling each other by ridiculous nicknames, oblivious to the misery around them. Of course, eventually I found a woman who couldn’t stand those kind of people either. Game, set and match.
But enough about my love life lol, let’s check out this niche t-shirt niche, via the expert offerings of LIL – not quite offensive, jaded humour t-shirts, for a cynical world…
University of Phoenix Tee
![]() |
Ouch, this is a cruel t-shirt design. Being a Brit I can’t really do much more than repeat what I’ve found on the net regarding the status of this particular U.S university, and it looks bad. If you want to know how bad a reputation the University of Phoenix has check out this conversation at arstechnica.com or some rather enlightening advice at Yahoo Answers. It seems that Phoenix Uni. is run for profit, and that means that no matter what they have to keep piling in more and more students to balance the books. Here’s a quote from ‘I Speak The Truth ‘at Yahoo Answers – “A High School diploma is all that’s needed at UoP. Further, even UoP doesn’t take their graduate programs very seriously, as if you want to be an instructor there they wont recognize your advanced degree. How about that?”. The University of Phoenix tee is available for $19.99 in maroon sizes S to XL.
Alfred E. Misfit Tee

Again I’m a little out of my depth here, I know who Alfred E. Neuman is, he’s the fictional and highly beloved star of the satirist’s Mad Magazine. I will say that mag doesn’t translate too well across most of the earth, the fact is I’ve picked up the occasional copy in various waiting rooms throughout my life and the bulk of it seems to be for the understanding of Americans alone. Now and again they lampoon a scandal I’ve heard of but in general it’s an American institution not a global one. From what I can gather at Wikipedia “Among the loudest of those who insist the magazine is no longer funny are supporters of Harvey Kurtzman, who had the good critical fortune to leave Mad after just 28 issues, before his own formulaic tendencies might have become oppressive. This also meant Kurtzman suffered the bad creative and financial timing of departing before the magazine became a runaway success.”
I’m guessing all is not well at Mad, still a cool design, I’d like to know more about the thinking behind this tee, but I’m sure I’m on the right track. I guess there’s just too much competition in the world nowadays, there are enough satirists out there to pick up the slack, especially on the net. Still, you can get the Alfred E. Misfit tee for $20 in black, sizes S to XL.
Love Is Lame Tee
![]() |
As you might have guessed, this is LIL’s signature tee, Love is Lame, and it couldn’t be any clearer, if you’re of the same mindset you can grab this one for $19.99 in sizes S to XL. I don’t want to harp on about love and its proposed lameness any more, I’ve said enough lol.
Cat Resources Tee
![]() |
Even though I love cats as a rule I can still see the humour in this one, although I do wonder why they decided on cats? What about dogs, people, fat greedy politicians and bankers with unlimited expense accounts, and so on and so on. Still you have to start somewhere, and if LIL want to pick on cats that’s their choice. You can get this on pre-sale at Etsy now for $20 in white, sizes XS to XL.
A strange and bizarre label with its proverbial tongue rammed firmly in one cheek, I am sure Love is Lame have plenty more weird and wonderful tees up their sleeve for the future, can’t wait to see what they come up with next. Put all sentimentality aside and pop over to LoveIsLame.com for some less than common or garden satirical t-shirts.
