Ride The Stormy Tees With Matthew Skiff
I mentioned Matthew skiff in a recent news post on Randr’s new limited edition tees and as soon as I’d hit the publish button I knew I’d need to blog a lot more about this designer’s particular talents. You can find Skiff just about everywhere on the net, if there are t-shirts involved he’s most likely been there, done it, designed the t-shirt, won the prize or commission, spent the money on more fuel (usually pizzas), and started on yet another superb illustration before sundown. Here are just some of the places you’re likely to bump into Skiff:- Emptees.com, Shred Clothing, Dead Serious Clothing, Mad Creepy, 410BC, Anticlothes, Pyknic Clothing and a whole load more, not forgetting the enormous amount of bands he’s worked alongside, producing everything from tour posters to tees to merchandising to covers. Check out his client list for some idea of how well respected Skiff is in this industry.
What’s more you’ll be able to seek out his work at Myspace, Flickr, Twitter, check out his boards at Popdeck, and even read his rather cool blog. So no excuses, if you can’t track him down for a commission or a little fan worship now I’d unplug the ‘puter and veg out :/
A Rocket To The Moon Tee

I doubt you’ll be able to get hold of this beauty for love nor money by now. It’s a commissioned design for the band A Rocket To The Moon, which makes sense, I believe they had these printed up as merchandise for one of their tours, but to be honest hearing Skiff’s experience with these clients I can’t be totally sure. As Skiff says @ Flickr “This one took forever to get approved! When they first came to me for a design for this they had no direction, so I have another design that I made that will probably never see the light of day “. Absolutely amazing illustration nonetheless, beautiful contrasting colours and strength of line. A comic art masterpiece. Still it might be this version they went for in the end. I need closure on this…
Medusa Tee

Again I doubt you’ll find hide nor hair of this particular tee, I’ve had a hunt around at 410BC just in case, but no such luck. Still a classic tee if there ever was one, and absolutely amazing detail, almost obsessive when you check out just how many scales are on those snakes. I love the dead eyes of Medusa, very fitting to the whole mythology. Don’t stare too long or you too will be possessed by this momentous t-shirt power!
Disco Claw Tee

Another classic from Skiff, and this time you’ll be glad to know there are still a few available. Designed for the highly theatrical funk rock band Family Force 5, this illustration subverts the disco clich√©, literally clawing its way through a mirror ball. Fantastically confident and slick, this tee is available at FF5’s own merchandise store in black for $20 (sizes SX to L).
Farewell Kidz Club Tee
![]() |
his hilarious tee is available as a pre-order at Pyknic Clothing, a fab label we have reviewed before here at Buy Tees. The pre-order package is available for $25 in sizes S to XL and will start shipping 1st September 2009. Skiff has gone all out on this design for Pyknic, celebrating Farewell’s “Run It Up the Flagpole” CD, it’s bound to be a best seller. As Skiff puts it himself “Kid Vid getting hammered with JD Limited”. I love the double-sided print, the back features a great spoof of a previous incarnation of the Burger King log, although I’m probably not supposed to say that for legal reasons :p
If you’re not up to scratch with Matthew Skiff’s t-shirt designs then do set sail for www.ithew.com and never view the lives of zombies, vampires and space cowboys in quite the same light again.
