Their system used to be the all-time fairest free advertising network around, and then “the powers that be” decided to crowbar in an ineffective and unfair cash economy which has damaged many aspects of their service.
If you don’t buy ads with cash but drop ads and buy them with credits you’re working and spending twice as much as you were a short while ago.
If you don’t want paid ads you may find yourself rejecting them for at least 10 to 15 minutes a day.
If you click on an Entrecard ad you will for 50% of the time be rewarding those who pay cash for advertising whilst punishing those who have actually taken the time to visit blogs and drop on them.
If you’d like to join us in our campaign for a “no paid ads option” at Entrecard you can begin by placing one of these buttons below your Entrecard widget.
The buttons provided are available to those who agree to use our link code, please don’t simply ‘steal’ the graphic as it costs me a great deal of bandwidth besides the time it took to design it. There’s logic behind the link, the more people that see the badge (and click on it) the more people will be converted to the cause. Simply pasting up the badge is self-serving and doesn’t actually help build the numbers of those who would like to join our cause. Implementation of sponsor ads program Oct. 5
$50 tax will be enforced on all those who refuse to accept sponsor ads each and every year. Is this per user, per blog? This is an absolute betrayal of everyone who has worked to build up Entrecard.com to what it is today. I really doubt a button or badge is going to do much to prevent this, after the sale of the company everyone expected it to be an end to the era of greed. Not so. I am stumped. Read the arguments against here.

Hi Paul! I haven’t got your widget up (yet-I have the “duck widget” I found on another site) but I haven’t been accepting paid ads for a long time.
The way GL is acting reminds me of AOL before I left–kept doing things that the members didn’t like (and in AOL’s case claiming members had asked for) and then ducking and running whenever anyone complained. From what I’ve heard AOL is a sinking ship financially, let’s hope GL isn’t trying to follow their example!

What if we all somehow protest the EC changes, find a way to convince them to change things back the way it used to be. Don’t know if that’s possible, but I’m sure EC doesn’t want to loose all there members.

I can understand why people think this might help but in all honesty many of top entrecarders have left now and more to follow – a banner is not enough. Unlike Langdon the new owners have paid to much money for EC to risk losing any. Shame though. I’d invite any new ideas though.
Yikes! A couple?few? months ago my widget stopped working, finally started a new blog and came back. I was surprised to find ads already running, didn’t know where they could have come from, guess I’d better read up on entrecard again. I read about ‘paid ads’ and thought it might be something good but someone above said WE don’t get paid anything. Even getting $ for entrecard doesn’t sound bad but I don’t know the effects this has on drops and advertising my card and others on my blog. I’m off to read the apparently new terms now.

Thanks, but we ask that Entrecard members place our linkable button as close to the Entrecard widget as possible. That’s the whole point, to encourage other Entrecard members to avoid sponsored ads. If you do decide to move it let us know.
