A Close Shave With Fuzzy Ink

Fuzzy Ink Tees - They'll Grow On You

This is what we love at Buy Tees, a great label with graphic flair and a sense of humour who have created an enticing store, cool products, and all based on an original philosophy that’s guaranteed to pull in the punters. Ironically if there’s one thing I’m sure about Fuzzy Ink T-Shirts it’s that they’re certainly not fuzzy, oh okay perhaps in a warm fuzzy glowing way tinged with a taste of retro gaming nostalgia, but in every other way these guys are bang on the mark.

The Mario Bros. mad, false mustachioed, t-shirt addicted guys behind Fuzzy Ink are John Paul, Justin Stimmel and Mike Paul have made sure that from the second you step into their site you’ll feel at home. Their unique style and graphic bravado is equally matched by their overtly quirky sense of humour, which guarantees that should buy a t-shirt, hoodie, button or belt or just want to “hang out” for a while, you are guaranteed to have a laugh. If you want to keep updated on all their escapades then you can read their barmy blog here at the site, follow them on Twitter or become their friend at their Myspace page.

The guys at Fuzzy Ink want you our readers to feel even more at home and are offering this permanent discount for all Buy Tees readers:-

There’s two things you have to know about Fuzzy Ink, expect to witness a sincere passion for hilarious handlebar moustaches and a devotion to the now almost forgotten Mario Bros. game, yes, yes, you can still play it on all the latest new fangled consoles, but it’s not the same as trying to manouvre an 8-bit pixellated Mario with a dodgy old joystick on an old NES (even a SNES was a luxury then). If you don’t know what I’m talking about you missed out big time, once in the far and distant past most kids didn’t have cellphones and serious gaming gear, we had L.E.D calculators, arcade games that were still in the arcade, and limited access to decent t-shirts (oh you lucky things), plus if you wanted to text it was on a piece of paper at the back of the class. Still back to the future, which apparently seems to be now…

Game Over (Presale) Mario Bros. Tee

Game Over (Mario Bros.) T-Shirt
Game Over (Close up) Tee at Fuzzy Ink

This mad and bad little number designed by Jubiln will be available from April 21st 2009, but you can still pre-order Game Over, Fuzzy Ink’s tribute and testament to the wonders of Mario Bros for just $16.95. If you’ve ever imagined, or been under the influence long enough that the idea came up in conversation, what do game characters do when the player is all thumbed out, then here’s about as close as you’ll ever get to an answer. A superb rendition of old school Mario Bros. characters relaxing in a little downtime after a lifetime of gaming, I especially like the detail of the gravestone “RIP Yoshi“, game characters (apart from Yoshi) don’t die they just retire at Fuzzy Ink. Still I’d love to see the guys at FI spread their wings, leave their comfort zone and feature a few more games from the 8-bit or even the 16-bit era. Capcom’s Streetfighter characters drunk in a bar, Pac-Man serving burgers umm.. (McPac-Man?), Donkey Kong in a straightjacket, ah well there’s only so many hours in the day. Anyway you can pre-order Gameover as a tee or a snazzy hoodie, it’s up to you!

Identity Crisis Tee

Identity Crisis Tee at Thriving Ink

This is a great take on a familiar subject, a Lego figure has an Identity Crisis designed by Josh Stomberg, wouldn’t it be great if we could all do this? I think I’ll be Einstein today seeing as I didn’t catch much sleep last night, perhaps a Brad Pitt head would be handy on a night on the town, I’m sure it would help open a few doors and get me in to a few VIP sections hah. I particularly like the abandoned Stormtrooper head and what looks like a pirate in the background. Kids don’t do it these days but even when I was growing up there was always a box of old clothes, a “dressing up box” where you could put on some junk and pretend to be something or other. These days corporations don’t let kids use their imagination, if you want to be an astronaut don’t put a fishbowl on your head, buy an astronaut from the toy store outfit and conform. I love the decayed grunge textures in this design, especially those in the mirror, and the extra detail of the IF logo on the character’s own t-shirt is a real nice touch too! This tee is available for $17.95 in yellow, black and white and hand printed on a 100% cotton asphalt shirt.

Torchbot 3000

Torchbot 3000 Tee at Fuzzy Ink

Yes it’s mad, crazy in fact, and as you’d expect it’s moustache related, but Torchbot 3000 is beautifully drawn and I’m sure there’s some wisdom in Fuzzy Ink’s madness. I love the illustrative detail in this tee, the composition is superb and the lighting really brings out the 3D quality of the monster of technology. Check out the bizarre moustache running for its life. I can’t really give you a serious deconstructive criticism of this particular shirt, let’s just say you either love it or you don’t and personally I do! It’s hand printed in cyan, orange and black print on a 100% combed cotton cream shirt and available for $17.95.

Vernacular Spectacular

Vernacular Spectacular Tee at Fuzzy Ink

Vernacular Spectacular is a hilarious exploration into all the alternative descriptions for moustaches known to man (and some not so well known), this is one of the funniest typographic-based tees I’ve seen in a while, I have a feeling they’ve slipped in a few of their own making in this print including “misplaced eyebrow” and “yeti spaghetti” – but full kudos to the IF team all the same, I love the hand written fonts here, it’s like a full page ad you’d expect to see in a gentleman’s magazine from the 40s. I will have to decide if I mean the 1840s or the 1940s, I know they were far bigger on moustaches a century or so ago, indeed they had a whole industry built around them at the time. I once witnessed a valuation for a set of moustache curlers on an antiques show on British TV some years back, they were solid silver and the chap looked like he needed them, his moustache was hanging down over his chin. Still each to their own. Perhaps FI will venture forth into the world of beards… goaties are something I find myself returning to when my shaver conks out on me, is it me or does stubble turn harder than diamond once you hit your 30s?

If you’d like to immerse yourself further into the world of Fuzzy Ink I’d heartily recommend you click the following link www.fuzzyink.com – but be warned your facial hair may be at risk!
