Another Dumb T-Shirt Scammer

Yet More T-Shirt ScamsOMG I can’t believe it, it’s only been a few days of returning to t-shirt blogging and I’m already getting more scam emails.

I can always tell because they never own a domain, always contact me from a free email address, have insane names and usually ask for 10,000 of my finest t-shirts or even worse blank ones.

I’ve had a few so far this week, scam emails, but this one really made me laugh and I thought I’d share it with you… read more

Chunk T-Shirts – The Essence of Cockney Style

Cockney Empire - EX-Chunk - Where are you?I really wanted to write about “Cockney Empire”, there’s a tiny little mention of them at Margin.tv and this picture is all I could find on them. Cockney Empire is the brainchild of an ex-senior designer from Chunk T-Shirts, don’t ask me which one because I honestly don’t know. I did a little detective work, okay I GoogledCockney Empire” and found a completely empty site at www.cockneyempire.com and so I assume I’m a little too early for the party and thought I may as well do the next best thing and review the beloved t-shirt label Chunk.

Sure this post is nothing new, anyone who knows anything about cool t-shirts will have heard of the name, they sell their tees everywhere from TruffleShuffle.com to UrbanRetro.co.uk to MoreTvicar.co.uk

Chunk started as do all great British institutions over a pint in a pub between mates. A mutual friend had just bought a beaten up Ford Capri Mk1 and as luck would have it, it came with a Haynes manual. She was so proud was she of her new purchase, she took the manual to very same pub and as the future members of Chunk sat around admiring the cover someone said “wouldn’t that look great on a T-shirt”. And that, as they say, the rest is history. read more

Free Listings @ T-Shirt Index

T-Shirt-Index.com t-shirt directoryHere’s a quick shout out to all t-shirt designers, printers, labels and stores looking for free marketing on the Net. We’ve just been approached by T-shirt-index.com to help get their name out there and seeing as they’ve already managed to pull in a dozen or so listings on their first day I’m sure this will be a safe bet for anyone in the tee industry looking for some freebie advertising.

Now I’m assured that they will be promoting the site big time over the next few months, and if it pays off then everyone’s a winner. Remember it is a free directory and so it won’t do any harm adding a listing or two I’m sure. Although I’m not a fan of the design of the site, the layout and graphics are rather cluttered – however Ashley from TSI has assured me they are quickly working on a revamp!

I must admit they’re extremely responsive to criticism, Ashley is open to ideas and responsive to any suggestions you might have, they want to make TSI the leader in its field and we at Buy-Tees.net wish them all the best in their new venture!

Herbal Tee Anyone?

Aura Herbal WearWe’ve all seen the rise in the organic textile industry over the last decade, ecological alternatives to textile production and dyeing have contributed to a near renaissance in the t-shirt industry. The consumer is far more savvy about the damage many industries can do to the environment and there has been an explosion in demand for organic apparel and street wear throughout recent history. However much t-shirt designers and producers try to keep up with these demands there is always more that can be done, be it recycled cotton, organic inks and dyeing, ecologically sensitive production processes or even charitable donations to environmental causes, however you may be surprised to know that even eco-friendly dyeing processes have left much to be desired when it comes to the protection of our fragile planet.

I was approached recently by Aura Herbal Textiles Ltd. at AuraHerbalWear.com, an extremely progressive ecological textile company who have truly opened my eyes to some facts that for many will offer some rather nasty surprises. We at Aura Herbal Textiles Ltd have dedicated ourselves towards finding the most natural ways to process textile articles. AHT have succeeded in innovating techniques in bulk quantities which offer true 100% Organic Fabric + HERBAL DYED = 100% Organic Herbal Dyed Fabric. Currently the seven major processes in textile processing that are known to use only low impact & hazardous chemicals (approx. 8000 chemicals are known to be in use) are now being introduced to a revolutionary method of using only natural ingredients such as sea-salts, oils, medicinal plants, manure etc. I’ve tracked down one fashion label already using their services to produce tees at Truly-Organic.com. read more

Valentine T-Shirts Kinda Suck

Spreadshirt Designer

Valentine Deals at Spreadshirt DesignerYes it’s almost (but not quite) that time of year again, another “Hallmark Cards Moment” created to make men miserable, women feel wanted, the lonely make fools of themselves, and corporations even richer than they are already; but still I thought I’d better prepare those amongst you who happen to be as unromantic as me and remind you that if you don’t want your respective partner to sulk on February 14th you’d better put your orders in soon and order something or other for that most special of days.

I’m not quite sure if a t-shirt is the most romantic of gifts, and if your one of those people who’s considering buying a matching personalised pair of tees that declares your undying love for each other to the world I will have to try and avoid you both when this brief and overtly commercialised celebration of romantic love rears its ugly head again.

The truth is I find it almost impossible to buy the right present for my other half at Valentines. I’ve done the unthinkable and bought her nothing at all one year, and even though she politically agreed with my decision I did have to “make it up to her” over the next few weeks all the same. The problem is chocolates make you fat, flowers are corny, I have no taste in women’s jewellery, for her or myself, and all in all I’m useless when it comes to sweet and slushy sentimental gestures. read more

Hustlin’ Tees For The Hip Hop Cuties

Justin Hustlin Tees - Hip Hop Cutie Gear! Now we all know the traditional image for the hip-hop world, plenty of bling, fighting the power, mixing it up old school in the ghetto, yeah yeah. But here’s something different for all the fledgling girlie crews who want to represent but would rather stay on the cute side of fashion. Paul didn’t want to review these tees, he’s currently restraining his gag reflex due to the overpowering √ºber cutesy style of JustinHustlin.com‘s hip hop stylings, but I (Chris) know there are plenty of female t-shirt fans who’ll want to see what all the fuss is about.

The strange and wonderful world of JH’s designs have to be witnessed to fully encompass exactly where this rather dipsy yet talented designer is trying to take us, along a particularly untrodden path in the murky world of urban streetwear off to a gloriously pink and blingin’ land of fantastical baked goodies and hip hop toons that have yet to have been discovered by the world at large. My only real criticism is that there just aren’t enough of them (t-shirts that is) to get really stuck in here, but take a look at the future (I presume) of Justin’s world of character-based tees and I’m sure that you (girls with a penchant for over the top kitsch) will love what the guy is trying to do here!

7 Tees For (After) Obama’s Inauguration Week

Obama T-Shirts For The Long Haul!

Prosper Obama T-Shirt by Paul Baines

No one likes to be naked in public, well except exhibitionists and nudists, and especially not on such an auspicious occasion as the first inauguration of a black president. So if you’re stuck with a heap of cheesy Obama t-shirts in your wardrobe and are desperately looking for something that stands out for this special event you had better hurry up and get yours too!

This top selection of t-shirts aren’t your usual run-of-the-mill “Change” tees, these are definitely something with a little extra oomph and when it comes to political street wear we all know how important it is not to blend in with the crowd, besides the fact that everyone knows you did the right thing at the right time, you stay ahead of the crowd in style and take that credibility all the way to the kudos bank ;) read more

Proletarian Threads – Come The Revolution!

Proletarian ThreadsCome the revolution there’s only one place I’d recommend buying your t-shirts – if it doesn’t go against your Marxist principles :) – and that’s ProletarianThreads.com. Now as many of you might have guessed I’m a bit of a lefty myself, an all-round trouble maker and I have always had a soft spot for those with similar leanings. PT tick all the right boxes for me, and then some, they produce and sell some of the snazziest sweatshop-free, political, feminist and generally revolutionary t-shirts this side of The New World Order, and this side being the losing side (for the time being anyway).

If you want to guarantee avoiding being lined up against the nearest wall and shot by a revolutionary firing line, should the day come that the world governments finally lose it and the people rise up and take back everything they can get their hands on, including their human rights, land, and the means of production from the Bourgeoisie then PT is probably a good bet. Although I’m not as hot on Marxist theory as I was in my student days I’m sure that PT count as part of the merchant classes and hence members of the bourgeoisie but I wouldn’t hold that against them, I mean who actually toils in the fields these days, that’s what combine harvesters are for aren’t they?

UStrendy – an unfulfilling experience

So, we’ll start with a fashion site called UStrendy.com – Steve C. a fan of our blog asked us or the heads up on this site – here’s what Steve said to us…

You guys have really pointed me in the right direction on some of your past reviews of t-shirt fulfilment sites but I can’t make heads or tails of this one.
Thanks, Steve C.

Well our first criticism is that UST aren’t purely a t-shirt fulfilment site although thinking about it there are plenty of those out there already! What would make the site a far more attractive prospect for designers of all kinds is a clearly laid out categorised theme, some way for both producers and consumers to track down what they want without having to sift through heaps of handbags and shoes and beaded necklaces to find it.

I’m convinced the whole site is actually based on a WordPress blog, I even recognise the theme which funnily enough seems to disappear the moment you hit their store. Looking a little more closely I’d say they’d forgotten to add a background colour or a .png there, I can just about recognise the logo faintly through the glare of an expanse of white, and all in all I’m starting to suspect that the whole site is the work of a desperately underfunded amateur with ambitions beyond their budget. The store seems to be filled with lots of products entitled “Coming Soon” and priced at $0, if they maintain those prices I’m sure there will be a lot of demand :/ read more
