Hendricks’ Happy Birthday Sale at CollarFree.com

November 19, 2008

Jimmys Birthday Sale at CollarFree.comJimmy Hendricks (perhaps one of the coolest names of all time) is celebrating his 28th birthday (oh to be youngish) by offering a whopping 28% off all tees, available at his fabulous t-shirt crowd sourcing site CollarFree.com. I’ve watched this company leap from strength to strength over the last year with a mix of fond admiration and a tinge of envy. If you’re going to run a successful t-shirt label, Collar Free offers a textbook story of achievement and expansion that’s sure to make any CEO raise an eyebrow. With a strong range of graphic tees, a faithful band of designers and fans, and a savvy technical and business team working all hours behind the scenes, you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s as near to t-shirt nirvana as you can get.

First things first, happy birthday Jimmy, may your all your birthdays be celebrated with as much success if not more! It does make me wonder if Mr. Hendricks lives to a ripe old age will the discount climb with him? It’s a long time to wait, but I’m sure it’d be worth the wait to celebrate Jimmy’s centenary on the planet. Although I’m sure by then accounting department for his multi-million dollar global fashion corporation (yes - I’m sure it could be if we wait long enough), will be shaking their heads as they wheeled him to the retirement home. Back to the present, and despite the fact it’s his birthday, here’s Jimmy’s gift to all of you! Just pick what you like and punch in the code “28on28” at the checkout.

Whilst we’re here, let’s take a deeper look at Collar Free and some of its latest offerings. For a start, if you’re willing to get stuck in and become part of the CF community, take a gander at the latest arrivals and have your say, there are plenty of fab tees to vote for, and seeing as we’ve just had the most exciting elections for a century I’m sure you’re not completely burned out when it comes to expressing your opinions.

They have a rather unique voting system at CF, where you get to choose your favourites in a head-to-head showdown unlike any other store out there! For a start you can choose to vote between men’s and women’s tees, men’s and men’s, or women’s women’s. What’s really cool is that you’ll be able to weed out the worst and come to a considered choice when choosing your overall favourite, a little like t-shirt poker, you should end up with a winning hand. If you stick at it a while you get to quickly compare all the new submitted designs, which seems far fairer for all the hopefuls involved in the process, and at the same time make sure you’re voting for the best of the best. Unlike Threadless.com for instance which in all honesty takes so long to roll through one page after another you start to forget which are your favourite tees. Besides, all those, for the main part biased comments, at Threadless end up swaying your objectivity one way or the other.

Here are a few of their latest t-shirts at the store:-

Organic Explosion Tee at Collar Free

Organic Explosion By Will Klein (Men’s Tee) is printed on a 55% cotton / 45% poly pre-laundered “indigo” shirt. Regular US Postal Shipping is Free. Is it organic? I’m not sure, it would be rather ironic if it wasn’t, still at least it’s an explosion of nature, a very effective use of motif design.

Ganesha by Kris Willhoite at Collar Free

Ganesha by Kris Willhoite (Women’s Tee) is printed on a 100% cotton, pre-laundered “olive” shirt with gold foil. A fantastically simple design, straight to the point, ethnic with a nice distressed look, not as over-elaborate as many Indian designs I’ve seen, which proves the old adage, less is more!

Emperor T-Shirt by Derek Bischoff at Collar Free

Emperor Tee (Men’s) by Derek Bischoff at Collar Free is another fine example of what’s popular at the CF label, plenty of vector extravagance with a ubiquitous skull icon to top off this sublime design. Printed on a 55% cotton / 45% poly pre-laundered “silver” shirt. Regular US Postal Shipping is Free!
“When I think about movies like ‘300,’ ‘Troy,’ and ‘Braveheart,’ I get inspired to create design with that gritty, tough quality.” -Derek Bischoff - The Designer.

Collar Free have a very bright future ahead of them, and they know when to give back, being a member of 1% For The Planet, you know that part of their profits go to a great cause, one of 1036 companies donating to 1659 environmental organisations to help save the earth from destruction. I’ve heard on the grapevine that CF have working on their first B2C deal with a few popular outlet chains out there, which means that you may start to see their tees in a store near you soon, but for now they’re any deals under wraps, obviously. What’s more if you’d like to make some extra cash they even have an affiliate program, just stick a banner on your blog or site and watch the money roll in. Fair do’s to Collar Free, and happy birthday Jimmy!
