T-Shirt Printer Spam

I’m always getting spam from Far Eastern t-shirt printers, at least I don’t get spam from fake trading outposts in the middle of Africa anymore (mainly the Sahara as I recall)) who’d suddenly want to order 5000 t-shirts. Something for all you newbie independent t-shirt stores to look out for there.

Anyway what makes me laugh is, apart from the bad English, is the fact that most of these spammers don’t even check out my blog, they just read the word t-shirt and assume I’m in the market for importing a few thousand tees from, where is it this time, oh Hong Kong , oh no the name mentions Hong Kong but they say they are a Chinese supplier.

Anyway my point is spammer or not, I’m not in the market for buying/importing/printing a truck load of tees, so please take my email off your list and move along.

War and Peace in the World of T-Shirts

Now, I’ll warn you, this is most likely the beginning of a long saga, if not an epic of all t-shirt articles. I doubt you can really call it a review because there’s so much to tell you, so much to explain, and so many twists and turns in the story that the word ‘review’ just wouldn’t do it justice. This is the story of the birth of a new and hopefully very successful (fingers crossed) niche target t-shirt label.

Let’s start from the beginning, the very beginning. Now, if you believe in fate, hey you have to believe in something, then you’re probably not the most ardent fan of coincidence. I’m not, in this grizzled addled brain of mine I like to cling on to the small hope that perhaps some things in life have a purpose, and that on those few occasions you should grab life by both horns and wrestle it to the ground.

Now, human beings are complicated creatures, they have individual lives and emotions, each has their own perception on why we are here and what we should be doing, and that means that a lot of us will never meet and if we do we will never agree on the most fundamental precepts of existence. Sometimes that’s a good thing, it means avoiding wars and most painful experiences in life, but sometimes it can be a real shame, glancing back and realising you’ve missed a great opportunity to help (in some small way) others find their way in modern life and all that it entails.

I’ve just had my Stumbleupon.com account frozen and accused of spam, I was informed I shouldn’t stumble my own blog’s stories a while back, and so I didn’t, although I would still proceed to stumble t-shirt blogs, t-shirt designers, and other sites both artistic and otherwise and yet what the hell happened today?

Blood Is The New Black

I only stumbled this one last night, yes at 3:30am, but luckily I still felt exactly the same about Blood is The New Black after a long sleep and an even longer grey British morning of slogging away at my (f)art. So what’s BITNB all about? God knows, but I love it. It’s like I’ve accidentally bumped into The Velvet Underground of the t-shirt world and I couldn’t be more pleased (with myself :p).

There’s flash. there’s plush, there’s cool, there’s funny, there’s crazy, and then there’s these guys, their style? Well if you can call it that, a ragtag muddle of crazy artists and designers, their style is so way off the scale I’m all out of adjectives (for once). All I can say is they make me feel sick in a good way, not sick with envy, not sick of the sight of anything in particular, but a strange and rather wonderful home sickness for a life I’ve never had.

If only the friends of my youth had been as together (and untogether) as this demoniacal motley crew I’d have probably started a revolution of some sorts by now, oh to be as reckless and carefree as these loonies. Read more

Designer Paul Budnitz designer and creator of Kidrobot is (and I quote) “the world’s premier designer and retailer of limited edition art toys and apparel”. Sure he’s blowing his own trumpet a little louder than most but the guy really does know what he’s doing. Kidrobot.com started selling their strange toys in 2002 and just as wacky line of urban wear in 2006 and have gone from strength to strength ever since. Read more
