New York Style For The World At R.A.G

September 22, 2008

R.A.G Clothing NY Tees

R.A.G Clothing opened its doors in NY in 1959 and has since expanded its number of stores to 5 locations across Manhattan. My partner came across RAG Clothing on a recent trip and was surprised (and relieved) to find their inimitable range of stylish designer t-shirts and urban wear are available online. They offer a great line in graphic art shirts although I’d say their men’s tees outclass the women’s by miles. There’s also a small selection of I Love New York tees for those of you who can’t quite afford a weekend fix of NY right now, though again they aren’t quite on the same level as their graphic t-shirts. A Code Of Honour Amongst The House Of Thieves

September 18, 2008

House of Thieves T-ShirtsI’d like to introduce you to a brand new label, it’s full of twists and codes I’ve not been aware of before, in truth I had to get a few explanations from the guys behind House of Thieves, and it all boils down to the world of thieves and their criminal gangs’ iconic tattoo and pendant art. Reading the blog at HOT (makes a great acronym), they say that at anyone time “within the limits of the City of London alone, an army of male and female thieves, twenty thousand strong, find daily and nightly employment.” Sounds like things haven’t changed much since the times of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist to me.

The House of Thieves only have a few items on offer right now, the label is fresh out of the box and so are their ideas, and even though I don’t usually feature designers with such scant collections I thought I’d make an exception this time seeing as the whole idea is so novel. I’ve seen a few biker’s tees, faux-gang t-shirts and the likes before, but this, as I’ve mentioned, this is a first for me. If you want to go ahead and check out the store click here. Beware though, every design at HOT is a limited edition, once it’s sold out no more will be printed! Read more

$30 Gift Certificate at Glennz TeesIf you want a chance of winning a $30 gift certificate from the awesome t-shirt designer Glennz, purchase one of his tees and take a pic of you wearing it. Upload the photo here and you’ll be entered into the monthly draw! Make sure it’s in landscape format so Glenn Jones, (Glenn from New Zealand = Glennz) can feature it on one of his product pages. Hey you could be famous and get yourself a few more tees to boot.

Anyway, here’s the latest fab tee from Glennz called ‘Puzzled Putter’. I’m not too keen on golf but I do love the M.C Escher twist in this design… Read more

Political T-Shirt Elections at CollarFree.com

September 16, 2008

CollarFree.com T-Shirt ElectionsCollarFree.com are on a mission to make politics ‘more friendly’ and I wish them all the luck in the world, but I have a sneaking feeling they will be in a minority. On a commercial level I can completely understand what they’re doing, they don’t want to cut their target audience in half, i.e anyone in the world who both buys t-shirts and has a political opinion, which is quite a few I’d surmise.

However most people with a political opinion don’t particularly like the opposition, I doubt that many Americans out there who’d vote for Obama would have any kind words for McCain and vice-versa. The truth is electoral politics lives and breathes the antagonism of difference, without it the debate becomes stale, although it could be said that parties in power immediately switch to a politics of indifference in an effort to avoid being torn apart by the arguments of an unsatisfied and even angry electorate. I can’t think of a single political campaign that hasn’t sunk to the depths of bickering, sniping, and personal insults that CF obviously want to avoid. Read more

Shirt City - Want Your Videos Now!

September 15, 2008

Shirt City T-Shirt Video CompetitionIf you’ve ever fancied yourself as a filmmaker, this may be your chance to make it big… in the t-shirt world :p ShirtCity.com/Scribtee.com are offering a whopping $1000 and a big heap of t-shirts to the winners, so get your cameras out now and start filming anything to do with tees! How about painting a large bucket like a teacup and filling it with t-shirts, call the video ‘Nice cup of tee’ and you should have a stab at winning. Then again you could try getting a load of bare chested friends to paint t-shirts on each other, if you feature SC’s designs you’ll probably get in their good books too. If you design t-shirts there’s always animation to consider, who knows, Teezilla attacks Tokyo? As stated at their blog they’re looking for short clips, fake ads, stop motion animation, mini dramas, experimental movies, flash animation … anything goes as long it’s cool, creative and features T-shirtsWhatever you decide, I’m sure your creative juices are already bubbling at the thought of all that lovely money. ShirtSeek.com - Redressing The Balance

September 14, 2008

ShirtSeek.com T-Shirt Community SearchPaul Grzymkowski has poured his heart into the creation of ShirtSeek.com and I must admit that his Email pulled a few heartstrings too, reading the all too familiar story of yet another net visionary stumbling at the first hurdle. I’m hoping I can pull something inspirational out of the proverbial hat to recharge this guy’s batteries, but I have a feeling this review is going to be a long hard slog.

It’s true we have similar services out there, there’s Rumplo.com for instance, a very popular t-shirt voting site, although I’d say it was a lot thinner in the ‘t-shirt community’ department, it’s still a mainstay with many t-shirt designers to get their works out there. Paul’s biggest gripe is the competitor site PleaseDress.me which turned up a few months later with a virtual ticker-tape parade as it arrived on the scene, compared to the rolling tumbleweed reception that ShirtSeek.com has received. One Punch Machine Gun Takes No Flak

September 12, 2008

One Punch Machine Gun ClothingIf I was a New Yorker I’d make tees like One Punch Machine Gun Clothing at OPMG.biz and you know why? Their designs are the shiznit, and in this case it doesn’t boil down to the usual formula of great graphic style meets solid conceptualist thinking. Although they excel at both, the extra secret ingredient at OPMG is attitude, and they have heaps of it to spare. A New York attitude to creative fashion that takes no prisoners, and if they did they’d be the most probably be the most stylish escapees this side of penitentiary. Read more

731 out of 50,000 t-shirts

September 11, 2008

50,000 T-Shirts - campaign of Hope for ChinaMy heart sank when I discovered this site today. It really is a case of reality crashing in though the door and spoiling the dream. FiftyThousandTshirts.com have the noblest ideals, their cause is more than justified, it’s a smart idea and should work to help the victims of last May’s 7.9 magnitude earthquake that devastated the Eastern Sichuan region of China.

Perhaps it’s the design, or maybe a lack of exposure on the net, or even all the disasters around the world since competing for their cause (Haiti for instance). Whatever it is things don’t seem to be going well for Steve Paterson, the creator of the website. Of course I’ll do all I can to help over here, which is the main reason for bringing all your attention to the site. FTT have been featured at numerous t-shirt related sites, blogs and forums, but from what I can tell they’ve only sold 731 t-shirts so far. Read more
