Just a quick update on Springleap since it was listed here:

On prizes :

We now run 2 competitions a month with a minimum of a US$500 prize. All competitions are open theme so you can submit anything you like. You also get royalties. Some of the designers have earned more than US$2000 on t-shirt sales. It takes time to get this rolling, but it’s like having your own sales force. Sweet!

We no longer have runners up – so if you don’t win you can reenter the design into the next competition or use it in any way you would like. We have no rights to the designs that don’t win.

We also have extra competitions periodically – Right now there is one for US$1000 with submissions due till 12 October. Also a cool competition coming soon with a US$1400 prize. (Lots more like these coming soon!)

When T-Shirt Monster first started, they held a contest every month but they have since stopped doing that. It’s been several months since their last contest. They are similar to Zazzle now in that they launch a contest for special promotions.

V2W.COM (not mentioned) is not doing anything anymore and they have already cheated some people that won their contests and no longer communicate. they were the bottom of the barrel though. If you won you didn’t even get a shirt. I had to buy one. They didn’t promote the apparel or the site so the 10-15 people that submitted art were the only people that knew the clothes were available. The site stopped working properly one day in the middle of a contest and then nothing since that day. I asked them before I submitted, in an e-mail, if they would be a failed threadles rip off – they said no we have big plans… hm.

I bet if you bought a shirt they’d respond though.

They have so far chosen really bad art. The site is poorly designed and they don’t update or communicate their plans often or well at all. That keeps good artists away and potential buyers don’t want to buy crap. So they aren’t going anywhere until they put good art up on the site, and communicate so that artists know that it isn’t a shady scam . There is a contest going on right now. The deadline was the 15th…. I submitted on the 14 and my art has not appeared on the site yet. Wait and see if they have vanished as well.
